  1. Slightly off original topic but relevant to some of the replies: Sony are now releasing Bravia TVs with in built DVD players that also have a PS2 built in. So there I still a chance to replay all your old games. You just have to fork out for a new TV first!!
  2. Yeah I'm not too good with the actual script. I've got a friend working on making it better (both gramaticly and funnier).

    event making?

In the picture you showed I am using the UMS script to put the picture in and the name above the box. There is a really good demo that comes with it that shows you what is going on and what to put in the text box to display it. For His pertucular system you have to save your face graphic in the PICTURE folder and begin you text: \face[picture name] You can also determin which side you want to display it by using \fr or \fl after the closing bracket. For example: \face[picture name]\fr will display the picture to the right as shown in your post. I hope that helps a bit.
  5. Always loved Sony Bravia tv's myself. Now they are Internet connect you can access on demand tv. In the uk you can watch BBC iplayer, 4OD, itv player and Love Film, if you have a rental subscription with them, (pretty much the same as netflix in the US but you also get DVD's/games through the post). Also can watch YouTube if you want. And PS3 and 360 run smooth as silk on them. My brother uses his 42" bravia as a PC monitor aswell and holds up very well.
  6. I quite like the idea of learning another platform to develop games on and am just wondering if anyone here has any experience with Microsoft's XNA platform? I'm quite a big fan of the Indie Games on Xbox Live (after wading through all the guff there are some gems hidden there!) and wouldn't mind one day getting a game on there.
  7. After starting my game, what seems like about a million years ago, I discovered the UMS script (not sure who by but will look into that!) and one of the aspects of the script is to allow character text to be displayed in speech bubbles as opposed to the regular text window. I quite like the idea of incorporating this feature into my game but am not prepared to go through all the existing speech to change it all! So I had an idea... As I had yet to make the cut scenes for my game I though it would make sense to incorporate the speech bubble text during them but keep the usual text window for when you actively go to talk to someone. Here are some examples of what I mean: Regular Windowed text when using "Action Button" to talk Speech Bubble text for use in cut scenes and event scripted speech Do you guys think this changing of speech would be annoying or make the game a bit poo?. I am probably just over thinking the whole thing and that lots of other people do this with the speech within their games (I don't have much time to play the hundreds of RMXP demos/games that are about).
  8. I know I'm very new here but I wouldn't go for games unlimited as its very close to a gaming site: gaming unlimited. I do quite like the idea of not having an engine specific name (although that is how I found the site by searching for some RMXP advise) as it should bring new people (not just RM users) new ideas new engines to discover and fresh conversation on the boards. I certainly would prefer all that to be in one place as opposed to searching all over and having to join many forums. I think th way forward would be to have a multiple platform "Game Dev" site. Especially with the uprising of indie games, for which I love and run a website dedicated to. As for the actual name I shall leave that in the communities hands as you guys have made this place what it is so far, so, rightfully, you should decide as to what the site should be called as I am but a humble new dude.
  9. I'm quite a way off yet so think I'll wait to see if it gets a bit more momentum and support. Thanks for your thoughts though guys
  10. So I'm thinking today about where I'm taking my current project (RMXP) and I had already planned for it to be episodic. Roughly 1-2hrs each one. I'm thinking for episode 2 to make it a run & gun shooter, a la Metal Slug, Midnight Resistance (look at me getting retro!) etc. Now I haven't had much time so haven't downloaded and tested the demo of Indie Game Maker but I'm aware that this engine is capable of making this kind of game. I would like to know if any one here has any experience with it. I would like to know if working with IGM is in any way similar to RMXP? Will I be able to carry the skills learnt over to it? Is the tileset system and spriting system similar? (I am aware I will only be working in the side view right to left world now as opposed to RMXP's almost top down view). I'm a while off actually doing anything with this just yet but thought I'd see if any of you guys had worked with this engine? Thanks Sarge
  11. Thanks Iaansolo I think this is just what I was looking for. I had a look around the site but failed miserably!! I wasn't sure wether to post here or in scripts tbh as didn't know if I was just missing something in engine to do it.
  12. I was having thoughts about my project today and where to take the story and I want to have quite a few side quests going on. My question is, does anybody know of a way to have a quest list in the menu (similar to fallout and other RPGs), possibly a script or a way in engine. I feel players will soon get lost as to where they are or what quests are active etc. I hope I have posted this in the correct forum area. Thanks Sarge.
  13. @Iaansolo I checked out that link. The battlers weren't really what I'm after but that's fine I don't mind editing renders. However, the face maker tool is a great find and used it 4 times today already for chars I was stuck on so thanks for pointing there!
  14. Lol I wish I had known this when I had started my game! The amount of text events set with "switch y on" "switch x off" is untrue as I thought it was the only way. And being a puzzle game with quite a few NPC's that speeches change all the time I think I may be able to save myself a bit of time with this info. Thank you
