      the mascot is Bruins? what do you mean? The Boston Bruins are named for an Old English word used in classic folk-tales such as the Reynard cycle fables. The word "bruin" can be traced back to Dutch origins to mean "brown". Hence why the Boston Bruins have a brown bear, Paws, as their mascot.
