Race in RPG Maker Games and the RPG Maker Community
Dragon324 replied to FranklinX's topic in Debate and Mature Discussion
Race is touchy especially in video games, but we also have to remember that unlike real life video games is most of the time set in a imaginative world that is not reality. The question then should be should it not be monitored as far as race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, ect. Well my response and opinion is it should be somewhat monitored but its also very interesting how views can quickly change. For example lets say this, I'm white and I make a game where black people are hated and the game is very graphical in the abuse that is shown. Most people will get angry at this and say I'm racist but now lets say I'm african american and I create the same game, now suddenly the view has changed, I mean sure there will be some people that will care but the uproar about it would be considerably less but why? its still the same game just my race is different so honestly I don't know and I struggle with this in my own story creation where I tend to throw in the plot line that women are widely abused and that gives motivation for a protagonist to be disgusted and try to change society. Anyway sorry I was getting a little off basis but I think it widely depends, and you have to be very careful when applied to worlds that are not real. Like am I raciest if I make a game where only elves exists? So truthfully very touchy subject with one fat long grey area that is so sensitive, because here even in the USA its very hard to find one definition of what a hate crime is that exactly match from one organization to the other. Like if I remember correctly the FBI's definition and the DOJ (Department of Justice's) definitions vary. Now as applied to what your referring to about people not having black characters honestly I think most people don't even think about it that openly, but if they read what you posted then they would probably realize they don't have any dark skinned people and would change it. So that in itself is not raciest just lack of thinking about it. Also because of this I agree with that dolarmak said we all have made racial slurs but that doesn't necessarily mean your raciest. -
They are emphasizing the social aspect because its something that other Game Engines fail to incorporate. Sure now we can make games and share them but project spark wants to take it further. That we can take elements from games take them, change them, and see how the author did it while at the same time providing a vast network of games for people to play. You no longer have to go to certain sites just to hear about a game, or see a post (while that option is still available) you can find it on project sparks server. Also your forgetting at the time I posted that info we had only knows about project spark for less than a week so give it time. Anyhow I found two new videos which go into a bit more detail about project spark: 1st video talks and shows what you can do with commands the 2nd video shows more about the artistic style and mapping in project spark Also I have seen posts and talks about people making things like TV episodes with fully voiced dialogue, pianos that the player can actually play almost like a real piano, this forum talks more about some other things http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/13/4428336/project-spark-build-a-game-microsoft-sandbox Lastly I will probably keep this updated every week or two depending on how much information I receive, and since I recently purchased a mic for my computer and game recording software I'll make and upload a video as soon as (assuming) I get into the beta ( also assuming I'm allowed to) :)

Its sad to hear that you are giving up on a passion, but I understand all to well that life does not really allow us to have much time for side projects, but the important thing is that you feel like what you are doing is right and you have no regrets :). However I do feel that while the development of games has been slowing that at the moment its just a phase. With new game creation kits like project spark that I showed ( which you find here http://www.gdunlimited.net/forums/topic/9742-project-spark/, which also I'll be updating in a second) that things will be getting more active (at least for a time). I have always felt that while RPG Maker was impressive but, to achieve my dream game I would have to study scripting and have artistic talent which I don't just have and don't have time anymore to learn, however project spark looks to make this easier. Also RPG Maker has been around for a long time and therefore it over the years has started to dwindle. That is why I do feel that with something new and expansive like RPG Maker people will become interested again ( doesn't hurt moving from 2D starting artistic style to 3D). Also I to have similar feelings of the open and welcoming staff and members that are here in the forums being one of the few places that did not care how terrible at game making I was when I thought I was awesome and tried to help me anyway, and while I have been inactive I usually go inactive due to life issues and while I don't share those with anyone its usually cause its not safe to be around me lol :). So in the end I guess I'm saying as evidence by the number of posts people have been putting don't count this website out yet ^^ not by a long shot.

I know its been a while since I been on this site, and I hope this is the right place to post this and hopefully you all will find this as interesting as I did (hopefully also I did not miss the posting of it). If you ever felt like RPG Maker was a little to limited for what you wanted to do for one reason or another then look no further. Project Spark is a game making software that is currently in development that will be released sometime around the release of the new consoles for PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. When the software launches it will be totally free, so there is no worrying about having to pay out cash to use it. So how does Project Spark work? 1. First thing you do is pick how you want to start, from what I understand you can choose to pick from a template from the project spark team, a template from the community, or start from scratch. You can also choose the type or genre of game you want to create, so you are no longer stuck with a certain kind. The system features autopaint and voice commands, that allow you to quickly make different kinds of lands and then go in to make finer edits. 2. When making your land you can choose to what scale things like trees will become, and remember this is a 3D game maker which means you will be able to add hills and cliffs (ect.). Everything in Project Spark has a brain which is simple and easy to edit with commands like, IF, When, and How. This sort of reminds me of eventing in RPG Maker with conditional branches and variables. Everything in Project Spark can be broken down from its pieces and put back together to make something totally unique. 3. The community in Project Spark is connected, meaning sharing content has never been eaiser. You can also take something someone else has built and add to it (Credit will still be given to the original author and you!). Also has people play your game you can actually see how they made it (like seeing the DNA of game and how it works). Also there is no more difference between play testing and editing because now you can do both at the same time!. I hope I have sparked your interest, and here are some videos...., also you can sign up for the beta here https://joinprojectspark.com/ Community Montage: Intro Trailer: Interview Gamespot E3: http://screen.yahoo.com/project-spark-e3-2013-stage-004724454-cbs.html

Oh my goodness lol since I've been sick these past few days I haven't logged in at all. Then now I get on and for like two secs just seeing the changes I was scared to death thinking "what happened to the site!?" (I thought it had died or something). Then after I caught my breath and came here I noticed that my nightmare was not true, and that everyone is still here, and that you just changed the name.. whew. Anyway with all that said here is what I have to say: 1. GDU was bland in my opinion, and this seems to be more alive with the green shades in the background. 2. GDU also had a bland title, I like the new one a lot better  . 3. As far as the title, I think its just something that's going to need getting used to saying before it fully catches on but that comes with time :) 4. The interface does not seemed to have changed much but its still better then rmxpu's. 5. I do totally agree with he fact that this place was always about RPG Maker, and as Lizzie stated we just don't have the expertise available to help or give opinions even to other game engines (kinda like how hard its been with ACE). So in a summary Good Job Marked  I personally like the new look and feel to the site. And now to go find me a kiwi :excited:

I totally agree on all counts :). People who work together can achieve anything they want to with the willpower behind getting it done. It is sad that the place has seemed to slow down but there is no doubt in my mind with some perseverance we will have this place back in tip top shape in no time. All it takes is like 15mins a day 5 times a week even and you have enough time that you can do little things here and there so yea its possible :). And at last you can sign me up because a place of friendship and learning is something that I defiantly loved and still love about this place. The people here are really nice and very helpful, no other game creation site has been as helpful as people here have been. And Lizzie hun your siggie is still the same :P *Hugs*

Lyris - pt. 1
Dragon324 replied to Leon's topic in Role Playing, Interactive Story Telling & Forum Games
She looked at the tall murky looking buildings with their broken wooden frames and the plant life that was growing on the sides, as she thought to herself how old and run down the place looked compared to the graceful places that she is used to seeing. As she turned the corner she saw a sign that read " Old Man Mutchers Bed and Booze". She opened the door and as soon as she entered the building, the men stared at her with a indulging look on their dark pale faces as if the sight of a woman was a rare thing. She walks carefully up to the bar as the men slowly start focusing their interest back on the jugs of beer and half eaten plates. She sits at the red stool and calls the bartender over to where she is. Bartender: How May I help you young lady? Woman: I'm Seeking a room, just for the night. The Bartender looks at the dagger on the woman's side. A little startled the bartender gets down to eye level with her as he stares into her deep brown eyes. Bartender: Your not looking for any trouble are you? Woman: Just here on my own business. The woman looking at what the bartender is pointing at on her hip and lets out a soft sigh and smirks. Woman: Its just for my protection. Nothing wrong with a girl defending herself is there? She stared back into his green and now doubtful eyes as he slowly raises back up turns and picks up a silver key and lays it on the desk. Bartender: The room will cost you. The woman reaches into her leather vest and drops a bag with what appears to be some kind of metallic substance inside. She takes the keys and heads upstairs as she prepares to lay her fatigued body down for the night. Entering her room she immediately locks the door and heads over to her bed. Looking at it she notices how poor the design is and how it looked uncomfortable. Oh well she said to herself as she laid down on it and blew out the lantern on the wooden clunky desk beside her. She closes her eyes as the wind breezes through the night. Her only thoughts now are of how relaxed she is in the bed her body now lay on. -
The scripter extraordinaire returns.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (EDIT: Adding in localized names)
Dragon324 replied to Joey's topic in Video Games
Yea Monster Hunter is defiantly one of those games you have to spend time on if u wish to get anywhere with it :). And I don't know how many are following the news but we officially have a release date- March 19, a demo date February 21, and voice chat will be supported for Monster Hunter 3U as well as a new trailer. You can find out all the info here http://www.capcom-un...t-demo-and-more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQOorJW1NFI&feature=player_embedded -
Alright and I'll try not to be swayed by particpation :P however things could get lonely if I'm doing the challenges solo :( lol. I could publish the tutorial part there in the tut. section. Then I could place the challenges here in the cafe and update the same post as new week challenges come by that way if particpation slows I can still work on the tutorials :). In that case I shall start when I get some free time and try to finish the first one by Sunday xD.

Hello everyone, sorry it’s been a while since I posted anything. However after spending some time talking with Marked and Lizzie last night and spending several hours of debate. I’ve personally decided to put my game on hold and try some tutorials for VX Ace (if you all like the idea). I thought I would probably do this on eventing considering it’s the thing I’m best at. However I wanted some feedback from you all before thinking about getting started to make sure it’s a success :). Below I listed some ideas that I would like some feedback on. Video or just Writing? I was thinking of doing like an event for the week. This would be mentioned the week before and then the next week with the new tutorial it would be completed and a demo with comments in the demo for people to use. A challenge section. This would be where someone could ask for something (that they would use of course) and I would attempt to do it. I could even give a challenge out to the community to see if they have learned from what was taught and to help them refresh. These where just some ideas that came up. Let me know what you all think, and if you have any other ideas let me know. If enough people are interested and Marked approves I would really like to give this a try ^^. For now peace out.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (EDIT: Adding in localized names)
Dragon324 replied to Joey's topic in Video Games
I love Monster Hunter :P. I've been looking at the news everday at http://www.capcom.co...nter/#/en/news/. I still play Tri some but only on occasion since I have been busy working. The differnces mainly in gold ian and silver los compared to the azure and pink counter parts is mainly just HP and the amount of Damage they deal. I've played all the monster hunter games that has ever been realeased here in the United States and they all were good games. The only thing I'm kind of sad about for 3U is the fact that you wont be able to bring your Tri save data over *Waves goodbye to 900 hours of Tri*. I can say though from what I've heard from the obsessive people who buy the Japan consels and get the Japan version of the game, it is suppose to be harder than Tri and more like the difficulty of Freedom Unite which I'm going to enjoy since I thought Tri was to easy. Anyhow I'm also working on finishing a place of sorts with fourms for MH3U, as well as a link to my live streaming channel once I finish it :). So you can say I'm pumped for this game and ready to spend double the amount of time on 3U than on Tri lol. So let the Ultimate Hunt begin sometime in March 2013! -
I agree with you to a degree Pol but u can still map really well. Also if you take the time you could theoretically parallel map like XP and just import XP graphics over. Even without the XP graphics you can still do some kinda cool things. As far as why I use it it seems to let me move a lot faster and produce better quality game then XP did with the same amount of time in it. As far as what I'm hating at the time is the fewer script selection to choose from. I also feel they could have done a little more matching with the character generator, its hard for someone like me to see if the face (neck portion_ matches the sprite in some of them). Though being an eventer the mistakes that were made in XP are fixed (finally less frustration) like how u couldn't make a Actor Auto fight without a script. But in the end I feel its a combination of things that make a game great and victors battle engine for a SBS is by far more superior than anything else I've seen.
