Need some mapping help please.

Question

So, I'm having difficulties transitioning from one map to the next. The number of maps I do doesn't matter (though i'd prefer to keep it a smaller number, it isn't necessary) The two maps I need help transitioning between are these:

 

 

Map #1

I just have no clue how to make the player go through one map to the next and make it believable, I son't want some huge jump, but rather have it seem... natural. Again, I can add as many in-between maps as needed, I just need help with doing so, I'm clueless here.

At first I thought you meant with events, but then I realized you mean in between maps. lol

 

How about making two maybe three maps of ocean/shore* walking paths that slowly leads to your map? You could include weak purple haze map by map to make it more believable too.

 

*whatever the source of water is for you, that is.

Is the purple area swamp-like or beach-like?  You could transition from the beach area to an inland grassy area with swampy puddles, or have an estuary type area.  Then you can do a more swampy area with little bits of the purple fog, then bigger patches of purple fog and finally your thick fog.

Use a Parallel Event to progressively make the Screen darker.

 

Getting closer to the Event Transition to the bright and shiny map, scale the Screen Tone to that maps Screen Tone.  Getting closer to the Darker map, scale the Screen Tone to the Screen Tone of that darker color.  It would need script calls to be run in the Parall Event, but no additional Scripts should be needed.  Just the one transition map would be needed, style as desired.

I could quite easily invisage there being a cavern in the side of mountain that you venture into, and when you come out of it, you're in this deeply depressing dark valley. Possibly magically altered or cursed, if that matches the mood of your plot.

Thanks for the help guys! you all gave me some really great ideas to use. I can actually implement all of your suggestions into the overall mappings. If you'd all like, I can add you in my game credits under support/help or something :)
