Hello i'm new.

Recommended Posts

 hi all,

i'm Corvus and am brand new to rpg maker, i got xp (it was on sale on steam and I've always wanted to check it out.) i'd be grateful for any advice and especially grateful for help finding resources (especially modern/futuristic tilesets, character/weapon models, and mecha character models and sprites) hopefully with all your help i can become a master at this and start repaying the community with my own additions.

thanks in advance as i'm sure this site will be a great help.

Hello.

You should start by looking at some tutorials, there are many available, here and on the internet.

Same goes with resources, they are easy to find, but if you want something specific it's hard to find so you are better off making them yourself.

Well you can try this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwDa_Cz1Fug&list=PLnmX37KMjgtW-PfVMomTDs5VmMY86YLyc&index=1&feature=plpp_video

I don't know it, but it seems to be detailed enough.

If you have questions you can ask me.

It helps watching different tutorials too. It's repetitive but hearing the information from different people does help you understand it better.

Welcome to RMU! After reading tutorials, if when you're still having problems, just post a topic with a specific question and someone will be able to help...usually.

We have some great tuts here: http://www.gdunlimited.net/tutorials

thanks a lot everyone! i'm starting to get the hang of it a little i made a very basic map with a couple tester events just to see how things work. my main questions so far are:

1) can i use different tile-sets on 1 map or do i have to stick to one?  (if so has anyone combined tile-sets into one mega tile-set? would that even be possible?)

2) is there a way to have more than four actors on your team with a way to switch members out so if i want to add new characters throughout the story i'm not limited to 4 total characters?

thanks so much for the tutorial links, i'll have to check them out tomorrow though it's nearly 2 am here so i'll pick up where i left off in the morning! i can already tell the community here is super helpful! i can't thank everyone enough.

1. Yes, that has been done, but it can cause lag if transferring the player to a map if it's tileset is too large plus it's a pain to set up big tilesets. I usually just add things to tilesets when I need them so they're easier to manage. Two great programs for editing tilesets and sprites are:

Graphics Gale: http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/

An awesome pixel art program that also lets you make custom grids and set the cursor to snap to those grids for aligning sprites and tilesets.

Yes, it's in English. There's an orange-ish "download" button there to get the free version. The only version you need. If you buy it you can edit gifs I think, but that can be done with...

Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/

Basically a free, open source, photoshop that isn't better or worse. It depends on your preference and the size of your wallet.

2. There's a script for that: http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php?topic=116.0

I'm just happy to have someone I can help. Most newbs aren't actually newbs and/or don't post. Or they ask questions that only master scripters would be able to answer.

Hmm, Event said Move Route -> Move Right, then turned on Repeat.

My "Collection" is a mass set of not only how to do simple stuff in RMXP but how to do the most complex things you can imagine.  Its one giant tutorial on everything from Scripts, to a Collection of Art / Sprites / Music, but also contains Mapping Examples, Battle Eventing, and well, it pretty much just features Everything that I could get to play nice with everything else.

Its in my sig.

And welcome to GD Unlimited.
