New page customization settings

Recommended Posts

So there I was, driving along today thinking about the Games Section... (a wee bit weird..) and I hatched this idea on how to make the games a wee bit more customizable.

A lot of the game pages look quite similar. There are a lot of design customizations to come, but this update focuses more on content customizations. Under the "Pages" dropdown menu there will be "Page Settings".

Here's an example of what the RMU Staff page settings are like:

This quite succinct page has the following customization features:

  • Display everything on a single page (default) or split each page into actual pages (eg Lumis)
  • Show the icons in the headings (and menu if you've got pages)
  • Reorder the pages to any order you want (so on a single page the positions will change, on the pages version the order of the main menu items will be in your selected order)
  • Disable any of the pages
  • Choose the heading for any page (delete the name entirely to remove the heading... useful for the homepage if you just want to create your own heading using BBCode).

This was actually quite challenging to make :) Especially changing live games from the old system to a new one. But I think it was worth making because it gives that extra bit of power over the page. Keep in mind... you could construct your entire page using only the homepage section, it's exactly the same as typing out a mere topic :)

Future updates are going to include (finally) design customizations so you guys can add your own flare to the pages... so we're talking backgrounds, colours schemes, logos, etc. As well as a blogging system and an internal file manager. I want to get the most wanted features done first so I don't waste my time at the expense of what people actually want, so make sure you give me feedback!

The progress bar never updates no matter how much I change it. :(

And page names don't seem to update either.

I am liking the premise to all of this. This does definitely make your site the most unique out of all the RPG maker sites, just got to everyone else to see this shit. You should be able to get a whole bunch of new members once this is all done, hopefully, especially if we can branch out to other engines as well.

Both are working correctly for me. Can you please confirm they are not working + any relevant details (especially the browser you're using). Do they appear to update but remain the same upon refresh, or do you get an error?

Our site* And ya, we've been quite unique for some time. If I had my time again I would probably have made feedback sections first rather than content sections. I guess I was too focused on getting people here. I spent so much time on content sections that by the time I finished, our content was starting to lose demand (eg RMXP stuff) and people left. I know a lot of people want feedback on their games and the games section doesn't quite accommodate that properly... I'll see what I can do about that.

I want to add more engines to the list http://www.gdunlimited.net/engines but the issue with that is that I don't know any, so if that were to happen properly then I would need other people contributing to that.

I hope so :) Our visitor retention has been poor this last year. For most of the site's life, returning visitors made up about 50% of all visitors. Now that's dropped down to about 43. My hope is that by providing the service that the games section does, more people will come here and also use the rest of the site's features. My goal with the games section is to make it a must-have for all peps with games in communities like ours, and have links to them in signatures across the sites. Oh shoot.. that's what I should have done... Expect to see a signature generator soon in the admin sections :)

However, I am old now. After 8 years, I am looking to move onto other projects unless this one is successful.

I'm using firefox. The bar looks like it updates, but reverts when I refresh. There is no error.

The page name for "Home" at least changes in it's text box, but doesn't update on the page itself.

I'm trying to edit The Hidden City of Arcatis which has the RMU thingy at the top of the page. That's all the important info I can think of.

Alright, the error is fixed. I was aware of it and thought I had fixed it. I suppose my testing wasn't thorough enough. A little kink in the update function formed after creating the page customizations.

Can you confirm it is working now?

It works :D

And I guess I expected the name of the button at the top to change as well as the heading for the page.
