I'm studying ruby scripting and also developing my own extremely NSFW game using RPG MAker VX Ace. I posted the concept on Reddit and got around 300+ comments in less than a day so I'm excited to see what the finsihed product looks like. I have been working with Unity for quite a while. back in 2009. I liked RPG maker because i needed to learn the basics of game development. and now that i know a lot i'm moving on to Unity. But i wanted to do a very special project before i move on to it. The other thing I want to know is if you plan to make it free or commercial game. Its going to be a free game. Its a learning experience for me, and I wouldn't want to charge people for this product anyway. Gameplay-wise, there will be very few enemies/encounters (ideally all encounters are unique) and most of the game will be interaction based. Other than that, I don't really care about making it a drastically different game from what everyone else is doing. A lot of games have crappy mechanics because they try to be "fresh" or different. RPG Maker is for good ole fashioned turn based combat. My goal is to make the same old game, with more XXX material and less random encounters. Sidenote - Why wouldn't you care about the story in an rpg? That's the most important part of any RPG. Out of every genre of game, RPGs place the most emphasis on story. Saltome 16 Report post Posted February 3, 2014 Well most stories use an identical pattern, which makes them effectively the same, except for occasional unique twists. I'm not the kind of guy who is interested in going trough a whole game just to see one unique scene. I know the story gives flavor, but it's way way way down on my priority list, especially since most games emphasize on it. It's even worse when you have limited resources because it's basically a cheaper, duller version of a better game. As far as gameplay goes, I like games where you can actually shape the environment trough the actions you take, not simply feeding you a story line by line, giving you arbitrary control over the moment when the next line is shown. Of course, you are correct. most people who play rpg play them to see the story, so don't take the insane ramblings of a lone bitter hermit to heart. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I see you're using Unity - how long did it take you to learn that? I ask because I plan on making the jump to Unity after I complete my current game on RPG Maker. Ok this is complicated. The day before you made your post I updated the custom profile fields in the forum's user settings. I changed it from RPG Maker specfic to general game dev, and changed the engine list from the RPG Makers to include a whole bunch of others. We've been trying to expand into other engines but it's quite difficult right now because I don't know anything but RPG Maker etc. etc. so basically I changed my profile settings to what you see as a way of advertising the new settings, so people will go in and update their info :) So unfortunately, I've never used Unity :( But I shall be learning all about it when I integrate it into the website.
