zahraa 26 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Hello everybody! I really like to talk about it. My family says you're addicted to computer and you should give up. I spend all of my hours working with computer and searching on internet, and I get very angry and sad when I can't reach my laptop (and internet) I don't mind being addicted though. I want to know your opinion about it, Are you in the same situation? Do you think it's REALLY bad to be addicted to computer? Does this ruin your life? Let's discuss my nerdy friends! Polraudio 122 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 I can say im addicted. I spend all day and every day on the computer. I even help people who need stuff fixed. It hasn't ruined my life cause it is my life. Usually if you spend all day on a computer like me you dont really have many friends outside of the internet but im fine with that. If i didnt have access to my computer all day it wouldnt make me get mad or sad. Mind Over Mater. Its harder if you grew up using computers. I havent really used a computer till about 12-13, so it doesnt really matter to me. It all depends if its bad for you. If you can make a living using a computer then good its not hurting your life. If you cant make a living using a computer and its getting in your way of making a living then it might be bad for you and you should try to limit your time somehow. Marked 197 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 Well I consider web dev my hobby and it has led me to 2 part-time jobs while studying where I get paid pretty well. I also didn't use a computer until around 12 or 13. I think its as pol says but I would frame it differently, and add a caveat. If you know what your career is and its something to do with using a computer and use the computer to do that, then its probably good to spend a lot of time on it. If you're career involves a computer and you're just gaming... well... No matter how beneficial to your career, humans are social creatures and they need human interaction to be happy. Using the computer at the expense of socializing and building or maintaining relationships is a stupid thing to do. I'm also not addicted. Sometimes may seem like I am (to you guys) but I was just dedicated. Without working on this website, there's not much for me to do on the computer.... Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted May 24, 2014 My parents were pretty well off, and my dad was really technical because of his job, so I have fond memories of Windows 98 and the original Doom. So I've been using computers for at least 3/4 of my life, so I think it's safe to say I'm addicted to computers, in the sense that I'd rather spend my time on the computer than outside. In saying that, though, I don't get angry or sad when I have to spend prolonged amounts of time away from my computer. The only time I ever had a reaction like that was when I had my accident and was in hospital for four days, but I think that was both a mix of finishing my book and hospital being really boring, and worrying about my online friends worrying about my absence. zahraa 26 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) No matter how beneficial to your career, humans are social creatures and they need human interaction to be happy. Using the computer at the expense of socializing and building or maintaining relationships is a stupid thing to do. You make me remember my sister's words... I feel so bad :dizzy: My parents were pretty well off, and my dad was really technical because of his job, so I have fond memories of Windows 98 and the original Doom. Yeah, Good memories of Windows 98 are still in my mind. It could open all my favorite games! I really miss some of them. I have a few projects going on at the moment so I need my computer. This is what I say to myself all the time! But there are always things that I want to do and learn with computer. That's why I feel like I can never ever leave it. There are always new technologies, new softwares and many exciting projects, I want to learn them and then I can make the next big thing... Or maybe it's just my stupid imagination. Marked 197 Report post Posted May 25, 2014 Huh, you're 15 how do you rmb win98? @tomo: Doom YES. it was one of those games that got me into game makin along with the crash series. We hav family videos of when I was a child and you'd just hear a machine gun go off and monsters dying coz my dad was playing doom. These is mid nineties. Doom still good to play with the his res packs! You can turn it full 3d and its like a modern game.
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted May 26, 2014 Doom, Duke Nuke'Em and the original Command & Conquer were probably my favourites, and was probably what got me into game making. It's basically what I've wanted to do since pre-school.
zahraa 26 Report post Posted May 26, 2014 Yes it's a bit strange, I think we didn't upgrade our windows for a long time, That's why I remember windows 98. We still have that PC with win98. It's a pain to work with it.I haven't play Doom. I played Babyz (Yeah I know it's a meaningless game, but I was just a kid) and Sonic (From Sega games) most of the time plus a game that I can't remember its name. I think Doom was a bit harsh for me in that age. I also have a video from my childhood when I'm asking my dad to stop recording the video and start Sonic for me and There's another one when I'm playing Sonic but I'm too short to see the monitor easily XD Oh and I remember I usually asked my sister to play Splatterhouse 2 (It's one of horror games for sega console, We played it on PC with an emulator) It really scared me and I couldn't sleep at night but I kept it as a secret so I could ask my sister to play it again :|
Tigurus 8 Report post Posted June 1, 2014 Addiction is mostly always bad. As long as you can stay away from it as well lol I would say I am addicted (as I am on my PC alot), though I can do something else when I want to (Like reading or going to the gym (Which I do ALOT). My parents also gave up on the "you should do something else than using your pc" comments, so I got that going for me lol Also, nothing beats Windows 3.1 *WhoO*
