  1. 1. Whether you're dodgy or not, how important is it to you to keep your private data private?

    • Extremely - Only I should have the right to store data about me
      2
    • Very - I'm annoyed by it but its the reality of a techno society
      1
    • Average - I am concerned but not worrying too much
      1
    • Not at all - I don't care. Let them see what I look at on private browsing. Meh.

This is a post from another forum that i thought you guys may want to discuss.

EFF's latest "Who Has Your Back Report" on which companies protect user data from governments (and the legal system in general).

I'm honestly surprised that companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple received "5 star" ratings (a star under each of the five categories).

I am highly suspicious of all of them, simply because if you scroll down and look at the comparison to past years, all those companies were lucky to receive more than 2 (with 1 being more common). All of a sudden, now that it's "popular" to "fight for user's rights", these companies start putting on a show that they actually care.

What seems more likely to me, is that these companies don't want to be "black-balled" but many of their users who a big "privacy advocates". No company wants a bad reputation on the Internet for siding with governments, NSA, or whatever.

I mean seriously, where do people think the NSA or whatever other government agency, gets its information from? From thin air? No, these companies must provide it in one form or another. This is nothing more than a facade to make such hugely profitable companies look like "the good guys" so people can continue filling their data centers with all their personal information.

I also made a poll about privacy so you guys can rate how important your computer-related privacy is to you.

It would indeed be suspicious that companies indeed suddenly seem to care about user rights. But I guess it's mostly the show that I dislike. Specially Google, I don't trust google *glares*

The only internet related thing I care about being private is my bank related things, other than that I don't really care.

Though I guess even if you give a finger they will take the hand eh?

Confuscious once said "Man who live in glass houses should change clothes in basement".

For those that feel the "have nothing to hide", then go right ahead and feel that way, but while youre at it, give me all your passwords, credit card numbers, pin numbers, bank acct numbers, leave your house and car unlocked and your curtains open at all times.  You do have "nothing to hide" right?  Unfortunately, that seems to be the ONLY time that people start to think that only "Bad Guys" should not have access to all that sensitive info.
