Is it me, Sprint users, or does the 3G network suck now ever since 4GLTE was released, because I used to be able to use 3G and watch youtube and browse the internet with no problems in the past. However, now it takes forever for the a video or webpage to even load, and sometime the page just says there is an network error. Only time I get anything good is if I'm near a Wifi source or I have my 4GLTE network working on my phone. Several people I know also say the same thing, that their 3G network doesn't work the same as it used to and it seems to just be their for no other purpose, but to be a nuisance. Thoughts?

Given the track record with ISPs in the US, they're probably throttling it so you'll upgrade to 4g and spend more money.

3g here is pretty fast here. But you gotta be on a plan or post paid to get enough of it.

Well where i live I don't even get 3g thought my providers connection (even though i pay for it) :( However with another network, the 3g coverage is completely fine. However the point remains that yes they are throttling the 3g connection so that they get more people to join the 4g network plans. I heard somewhere that 4g was cheaper to run by the company but is considerably faster than 3g networks (I'm not entirely sure if this is correct or not). So if this is true, the company that gets people to upgrade will gain a larger profit than ones that allow them to stay on the 3g network.

To bad there isn't a lot of 4G LTE spots, as my Samsung Galaxy S4 locates more 3G than 4G LTE where ever I go, which is really annoying. So if there trying to get people to switch, they really should put more 4G LTE hotspots.

Costs aside, if you throttle it then customers will perceive the need to switch. Even if 4G costs less, its a better service and therefore naturally the price is higher. 3G will have to be quite inferior for people to switch. So whatever the costs, they can purposely create the inferior product to charge more. For example, lets say 3G and 4G are exactly the same. How do you charge more for the same thing? You make one worse, everyone forgets what its like, it appears like you've got anew technology and now you can charge more.

Anyway. The benefits of living in a small country... we get 3G pretty much everywhere that's populated. Not really out in the country side.

Marketing Strategies in a nutshell.

My 3G connection is really fast in Mexico too. I have to say I was quite surprised with that. Even when 4G is in the wild people still use 3G in my country.

And like Mark said you need a plan or a post-paid plan to access the 3G network.

The pre-paid phone doesn't have free 3G so you pay $100 and have a whole month covered.

A plan, well you pretty much pay it monthly, so no extra cost. Pretty much free internet and fast one too.

I like to point out that 3G is only unavailable when an earthquake occurs.

And I live in a place where there's 25 earthquakes a year. Not as much as Japan though. They have hundreds of them a year.
