Composing Services

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

So, I know I'm new, and I don't even have the game yet...but, I will be getting it shortly and I have years of composing skills as well as an extensive background in both classical and scored film and video game music. I would LOVE to write some music for you all to put in your games. If you'd like to request some music, feel free to PM me with the filled out request sheet that'll be at the bottom of this page. It's important that you give enough information as possible, so try and fill the entire thing out!

I suppose I should tell a bit about myself as a composer. I've written two symphonies (scored for full orchestra), I've started a Requiem but did not finish because I decided it was garbage, a three movement viola sonata, and various other pieces of music all composed in a classical style. I am unable to upload any examples of my work due to the fact that I do not have my computer at the moment, but check back here for some samples in about two weeks or so!

If you're looking for some originally composed music in a more classical style then fill out the sheet below and send it to me in a PM and we'll discuss it. Unfortunately I wont be able to compose anything until I get back to my computer as well, but I'm hoping to be back at school no later then January 10th.

Note: I'll be limiting submissions to one per person for now unless I get hardly any responses.

If you have any questions, respond here! I hope this is helpful and I can't wait to learn more about your projects!

Request Form

Name: (you!)

Title of Project: (title of the game you're making)

Description of Project: (just give me a brief overview of the game....what kind of environment/time period it takes place, main plotline, etc.)

Description of Music Request: (What am I composing? Is this a character's theme? Background music for a town? world map music? etc. Provide a brief description here as well - who's involved? What's the mood? Are we in the middle of a war?)

Exact Length: (If you are setting this music to a cutscene or opening or something and need it to fit a certain time frame then I'll need to know the exact length, in minutes and seconds, of the scene. If it is battle music or background music that will be repetitive then this is not needed)

Screenshots/videos: (if you want a cut scene or other timed sequence to have a specific theme, then a cut scene in youtube or whatever you choose is mandatory. If it's background music, then a screenshot(s) of the area must be included)

Preferences: Here you can list any preferences that you would like. Do you want it fast? slow? somewhere in the middle? loud? soft? Is it a march, tango, or waltz? Do you want it dark and heavy, or light and fun? Any scoring preferences? Do you absolutely hate the oboe, and do not want it as part of the instrumentation? List all that fun stuff here!

Note: I only require a few things from those who use my music.

1) Never share it with anyone else unless they get my permission.

2) Keep the original title of the song that I give it.

3) Give credit where credit is due.

Name: red-eyesD.dragon (red-eyes for short :D )

Title of Project: Demon

Description of Project: 5 demons, along with Death (grim reaper) escape from a dark world (don't say cliche :P ) when they get they begin to kill anyone and everyone, no-one seems to be able to stop them, they eventually that control of 12 different towns and are on there way to take down the main leader of the people.

I skipped a bit there, in the game you are one of these demons and have to take control of each town you find and then get control of the main empire in the world.

Description of Music Request: A theme for Death, more info on that in preferences

Exact Length: 2:30

Preferences: I need it to be fast with a beat. Medium height in sound, sort of dark and in a way scary.

I have absolutly no idea if you can do something like that, but it would be cool

Alright red-eyes, the project is underway! Though, I think it might be a bit too intense for what you're asking. I'll send you longer sample later.

Anyway, here's a sample of my music everyone!

And no, you may not use this song in your games.

Damn Biddypocket, your pretty damn good. You should sign up as a Music teacher later down the line, and teach people this stuff.

aww, Thanks Ark!

I would, but the thing is...I can't just teach it. Composing just comes naturally to some, and not that I'm some super famous composer, or plan to be, but I can't tell people what melodies will sound good with what and blah blah blah. I could teach theory, but hell, there are better tutorials on that out there. I suggest just listening to a lot of classical music - I'd be happy to recommend some :).

Besides, the program I used costs over $200.00 (over $700.00 if you're not a student).

Trust me, money is no issue for me. ;)

But oh well, I still need to learn other stuff first.

Keep up the good work.

haha :P

Well then, the latest version is Finale 2008, if you're interested in...errr..."attaining" it :). There are other programs too that you can use, which would probably be much more simple for someone who can't read music.

But, Ark, if you ever want a piece custom written, I'd be happy to :).

Name: Maph

Title of Project: (No true title) What has become of the community dev project.

Description of Project: I guess I work in weird ways. I kind of just piece things together and let it go, and if I see anything that doesn't work, or that would work if I changed a few things I do. That being said there isn't really an overall plot at this point. I can tell you that innocent people die at some point because other more powerful people are greedy butt munches. That's about all the detail I can really give at this point. The setting is of high fantasy with some technology. Probably industrial revolution type stuff, maybe earlier.

It's going to be relatively light-hearted, and definitely humorous.

Description of Music Request: I personally would like 2 pieces composed at the time. Some victory music (both triumphant, and a little cheery), and some Game Over music (something that sends the message that everyone's died and it's your fault).

Exact Length: The victory music shouldn't be long. I keep having a problem where victory music doesn't cut out after battle if the song is too long, so that being said I'd rather it didn't loop. I'm thinking around the 9 second range. As for Game Over music, probably longer, more like 15 seconds.

Preferences: I already listed my preferences in the description. If this voids my request due to not following the template I can edit it.

This is for the community project that you said you'd like to help out on. I don't know if you forgot, or were waiting for a response or whatever. Maybe you thought it died again. I wouldn't be too surprised. Anyway, I was also wondering if you'd like to actually join the dev team. We could use a composer, and you seem like hot stuff. I know you're most comfortable with classical, but even if you're not too familiar with rock or anything like that you can probably do better than anyone else on the team. If I can get you on the team, and a scripter than I will have collected some of the hardest to find skills among us RMXPers (I've already got a spriter, a concept artist, and I myself am very familiar with the number crunchy bits of balancing out a good combat system).

Anyway here are the forums:

http://z15.invisionfree.com/RPGMakers/index.php?

I should point out that our forums were recently moved here, and as such Marked hasn't yet reposted up all of our work. I assure you, this project is in fact still going. It's actually going stronger than ever, it just doesn't show (I happen to be in real life contact with 3/4 of the team counting myself, so not all of our stuff gets posted there. We usually discuss things outside, and post the important bits).

Well I hope you consider my offer. You'd make a valuable member to the team. If we can keep slowly making progress I have no doubt that we can attract more attention. I'm actually in the middle of getting us some advertising too!

Maph,

the two pieces are very much doable - I'll have them for ya ASAP :).

Also, I did not forget about the project - I'd still love to help! I'm going to PM you about it.

Expect the pieces fairly soon :).
