BiddyPocket 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Lookie what I found! - http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/ It's a program called Terragen, and it's free! It's software that is Windows XP compatible and it allows you to create VERY realistic 3D scenery! How neeeaattt!! This would be awesome for making custom battlebacks and the like! It says it's not for commercial use...but I suppose, if we're not charging money for our games, then it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Enjoy! ~Joe
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Looks nice, I'm impressed. I'll see about downloading this later on today maybe. I don't know if I'll be on when I get home because I wanna spend time with my girl today.
raptorep 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I've used before, it is very useful and easy to use. And resolutions can go up to 1920x1080HD in the commercial version and 800x600 for the free version(I believe haven't used recent free version). I've experimented in films before and it's software render gives amazing results. Plus I believe that the commercial price is only $15-20 (not sure which lol) but very inexpensive, and for advanced users can be very customizable and flexible. BiddyPocket 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I downloaded it but it confuzzles me on how to use it. If you look around online there are some pretty great tutorials on how to use it, some of which are on the actual site I believe. It's pretty insane what can be made, and to import these images to RMXP would bring the gaming experience to a whole new level, methinks. I mean, just imagine using images like this for battlebacks and stuff.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 I don't understand anything about it raptorp. But since BiddyPocket says there are some tutorials around I will look and see what I can find.

BiddyPocket 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 You can make VIDEOS with it too! Like, for REAL CUT SCENES!....the only thing is that I don't think you can make people and buildings, but you can definitely import things from online. So, if you have photoshop, and then download this, it would be AMAZING! Go to www.youtube.com and look up "terragen videos" and you'll see what I'm talking about! BiddyPocket 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2008 That looks awesome, I downloaded it, it's confusing. I watched some tutorial vids and it's still confusing, I mean I get how it works but I just can't get it too work right for me :( I'll again later Here's a basic tutorial on it. Start with this, and then fool around with it and see what you can do: STEP 1: Download Terragen V 0.9.43. STEP 2: Open Terragen. Once you open it, X-out of any windows that come up. You'll use them, but it's just confusing with so many things open. Just make it so that it's a blank workspace. STEP 3: Click on "view" up top and click on "Landscape" STEP 4: Choose a Landscape Here is the main tool that will set up all of the land. On the bottom half of this window it says "Surface Map." This is what kind of terrain you want. Click on "open" and select the type of terrain you want. For now, let's do "grass and snow." Now, it should appear in the window space on the bottom. From there, you can double click any of the options and fool around with the texture of the land, color, etc. We'll make a snowy landscape, so click on the "Grass" part and remove it (click remove on the right). STEP 5: Generate the Terrain Towards the top of this window will be "Generate Terrain" - click it. From here you can alter the terrain. I'm not sure what all of it means yet, but for right now on the right you can see that you can change some of the characteristics of it. Play around with it and then check the box "use random origin each time" on the bottom of the window. Then, click "generate terrain" STEP 6: Adjust Now, look back on the previous window. You'll see a square with black and white splotches - that's the terrain. The lighter it is, the higher altitude it is. Now, you can fool around with it by changing everything from the atmosphere to setting fog, etc. For now, let's just make the map. STEP 7: Making the map When you've altered the land to your liking, click "view" at the top and click "Rendering Control" and immediately move the bar under the image that says "Render Preview" all the way to the right - this will ensure maximum detail in your picture. On the right are all camera techniques and things. You can change the height of the camera, where the camera is positioned, etc. If you look on the bottom right you'll see the same black-and-white blotchey image from before. If you click here, you'll set up the camera's position. You can make it zoom in and out or adjust the exposure. Click somewhere on the map and adjust where you want the camera to go Note - it will always focus towards the center, what you're moving is the position of the camera. Then, click "Render preview" STEP 8: Making an image If you like what you see then change the image size to what you'd like (In RMXP it must be at least 600 pixels high to fit a panorama image, but the width is up to you. It should be fairly long, like 1200+. When you're ready, click "Render Image." It will take a little bit to load, especially if it's a big picture, but when it's done a window will pop up an you'll know it's finished. From there, you can save it, import into RMXP, and voila - you're done! I suggest downloading a program like Infranview or something so that you can crop images if you'd like. It's just a good thing to have in general, especially for stuff like this. Here's what I came up with! - Snow Mountain

Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 Shushi, please do not necropost. That is when you bring dead topics to life by posting on them. Make sure that the last post in a topic wasn't over a month ago, you can do this by looking at the top of a post. Necroposting isn't really bad when you do it on a good topic, this topic is dead.
