A few ideas for GDU to help it grow.

Recommended Posts

Okay, might i just say, this website is great.

No overusage of memes... no cringelords... everyone here is pretty neat!

However, we can't deny that this community has shrunk more than the Ouya's relevancy, over the past years. So, when i drove in through the walls on a buggy with a 'La Cucaracha' horn, this place was pretty desolate. We see the same familiar faces and the such. But don't worry, I have an idea! It's a good one! However, the moderators are gonna have to agree to what will be written below.

So here's the layout. Now we MOSTLY focus on RPG Maker content. Oh, and not to mention UnityThis website has Unity content...?

Those are the only ones featured. We should try and appeal to the less known engines, and try and attract people that know about the engines in question. So here's the first thing I want you to do: List other game design engines! Thing's like Game Maker, and IG Maker. I volunteer to be doing the logo's for them, so no need to worry.

AND THEN WE BEGIN INTERNET DOMINATION TO BECOME THE ONLY GAME DEV-

Oh. You guys aren't supposed to know about that yet. Nevermind.

Back to the point. You guys can contribute more ideas in the meantime, I'll keep brainstorming ideas.

This site adds to my wallet, not empty it :)

You're right, we underperform, and we've done so for some time. But that was after a period of big activity. I'm not totally sure what the state of things are out there because I don't pay too much attention, but so many of this type of website has died. When RMXP was a giant, and a giant in comparison to the numbers who currently use RM, there were also giant sites of RMXP.net/RMXP.ORG/HBGames and creationasylum, RPG Maker revolution. Each of these are now less popular (in terms of internet traffic) than we are, or dead. My gf's blog gets more traffic than CA, and CA was in the top 100k sites in the world in its day.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the most popular websites are the official RM site and single-engine focused websites (which ought to die out at some stage, certainly within 9 years, unlike us).

I am quite comfortable with where things are out. I used to be overly super motivated to show the RM world we're a unique site with huge potential; but as the years wore on, I am comfortable with this site's achievements. It can die any time, and I'm proud of what we achieved and the people who stayed with us for years and years (who are both here now, and have left us).

Anyway, I think we can expect some new developments from me on this website. But having developed it for 9 years, I'm not sure about your idea(s). Niche sites can do well by focusing on something, but you propose to expand our focus, and expand to engines that none of the current members actually use.

When I think about making a website popular, you know, I don't want to do things just to increase activity. If we're making games and contributing to the knowledge base, I'm happy. Tiny websites can prosper unbelievably; if we had say just 10 more super users who just wanted to do their thing here, then that'd be great.
