I need a lot of help with my comic...

Recommended Posts

Ok, first off, I've been doing a comic for a while now, The Book of Change, and my old artist who just left said I needed to work on my scripts...I have been using a more "movie format" script in order to write it, as I just can't seem to think panel-to-panel like other webcomic scripts can (like AG for example). So, I figured I'd get some pointers on how to make it easier to think and write panel-to-panel, as well as some advice on just figuring out how to do it in the first place.

Another thing is...I'm kind of stuck in my rating...right now the comic is a WEB-14 comic...but I have my doubts on whether this is really going to be the rating. I want the comic to be more mature...but I'm not sure what really determines the rating of a webcomic...can anyone give me some form of list to help me figure it out? If not, can you at least tell me what I should check on for rating? I understand certain things, like language, sexual activity, and so forth can quickly change the rating...at current I'm not planning to have very heavy language...but I am planning to have some swearing in it...I just don't know what yet...

Also, I currently have no artist, and need to find one. However, as my former artist has pointed out, I can be "intolerable" at times...I'm trying to work on it, but I don't really notice it myself...I need someone who, if I am being "intolerable" will come right out and say it, not hint at it, and will ALWAYS say it whenever it is happening. My former artist, Lex, unfortunately, held it in until he ended up exploding at me and then leaving...so...basically I need someone who will yell at me for being intolerable and help me fix the problem, not who will just say "I can deal with it" and then holds it all in for 3 months, then leaves because of it.

So...that's what I need help with right now...can anyone help?

Sorry, I can't really help out. I did read a lot of your Comics and comments on the site though. Your team have done a good job. Just wondering, what program did Lex use to make the comics? If I were to make a comic, I would probably use Flash, though I'm still not good with it. But the advantage is that you can store artwork in a library, then just drag the artwork out from it. Like this for example:

You could have one of those for each Character. To get that expression in any of your future comics, all you have to do is drag it onto stage. Of course different angles need to be drawn, but for each expressions, you only need to draw it once. That picture was actually taken from a Flash video tutorial.

Also, on this page: http://bookofchange.smackjeeves.com/comics...571/of-burgers/

I don't know any Japanese, but I think the word "des" should be "desu", unless it's like that on purpose.

I'm unsure about this, infact I know nothing about comics. But I think this could be determined but how appropriate it is for the reader. For example, it wouldnt be 11+ if it had nudity in it. Although if you want it to be more mature, you can just set the rating yourself to what you want.

Here is a Flashed version of your latest comic(sorry I keep doing this with your stuff). The good thing about flash is that you can easily animate things and they never lose quality...

Sorry, I was bored. But that shows some advantages of flash.

Haha, looks nice...though you don't really have to be that good at it...I mean...look how we started with Midel...you could try out, though, if you wanted to...I'm re-writing the prologue, though, so if I sent you a script to see how you do, it wouldn't be one used in the comic...

EDIT: Also...the "Hai, so des" wasn't in the original...the original was simply "Hai, I am" which Lex changed cause he thought it inappropriate that she would only speak partial Japanese... >< I speak partial Japanese all the time...

You could send it to me, but I'd prefer a no commitments thing. I really don't consider myself an artist, so I probably don't have the skill to do the job. Though I try not to let stuff like that stop me doing things.

I was searching around, and I came across a program called Manga Studio. Heard of it? I haven't downloaded this yet, but you may be interested in using this for your comics: http://www.e-frontier.com/go/mangastudio

They talk like the comics jump out of your brain onto the computer just like that. You may be interested in checking that out.

Sure, I'll check it out. I see it isn't free...and I don't have the money to buy the program...but maybe that won't matter...we'll have to see how the free trial works...
