RPGMaker XP Hot Keys not working

Hey, I wasn't sure where to put this, I'm new to this site, but I've been using RPG Maker XP for years now. I recently noticed that I can't use certain F key functions when working on my games. For example, when in the text editor I can no longer preview the text box by pressing F2. When test playing I can no longer access switches and variables by pressing F9. I did upgrade to Windows 10 recently, so I'm wondering if that is the problem.

 

Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or know how to fix it?

My suggestion is to reinstall the program, backup your game stuff first tho. If it still persists then get a new copy of RPG Maker XP and install it. If you have a new copy and it gives you an error about your game being from a different version of RMXP there is a simple fix by editing the files I can give you.

I reinstalled RPG Maker XP (which actually took me from 1.0.4.0 to 1.0.5.0) but my hot keys still do not work.

hmm, not sure what the problem might be. I've never had that issue before. have you tried googling the problem, you might find a solution on the developers forums?

Yeah, I first tried searching for the answer on other sites before making my own post here :(

sorry to hear that the problem is persisting even after reinstalling. I'm not an expert but if you completely uninstall (registery, rtp and everything), reboot and install a fresh copy of version 1.02e (which i think is the last version for pc, tho it might be 'f') it might fix it. your version of 1.0.5.0 looks to be an older version which might be the cause of the problem which was later fixed in an updated version.

SOLVED!

Wow, I feel really dumb. Turns out there's this F-Lock key on my keyboard and if it is OFF then the keyboard uses its own special functions assigned to the F keys such as undo, redo, open, close, reply, forward. Dumb stuff. By turning the F-Lock ON, my usual hot keys work again for RPG Maker.

Or it was a combination of the above, because I swear I tried the F-Lock key earlier....

lol well i'm glad you solved the problem. I know how some keyboards are silly, I need to be careful of mine cause there is a Sleep Wake and Power button on mine above the home buttons.
