I had an idea...

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking novelty RPGs...

Like, how about this: a Golf RPG. You gain experience as you play the holes, and the amount differs depending on how well you golf, and you can buy armor (clothing) to better your game, and weapons (clubs) to increase your power. The plot would be something like "The ancient evil demon Albatross has returned to the world of Golfitania! Only the boy chosen by the Club of Destiny can defeat him! But first, he must master the ancient game of the precursors and defeat Albatrosses three henchmen, Birdie, Eagle and Bogey! Can he do it?"

Oh, and hey, every time you blow a stroke and get over par, you lose HP. The only way to get it back is to do really well on the next hole. If you run out of HP you lose, and you get sent to the nearest hospital. And you could spend MP to use really powerful golf techniques. We could use a variant on the basic battle system and golfing could be turn based (obviously). We could use the damage system to gauge distance (Damage = yards driven); putting I'm not sure about. Of course, we'd have to use an animated battle background, or something. And figure out animated battlers.

And you would be able to travel all across the world playing different monsters at golf and recruiting caddies to carry your clubs and help you out.

Or we could substitute tennis, or ping-pong, or something.

At any rate I was trying to think up an original idea for a game, and this is what came to me. I love golf, and I love RPGs, so I was thinking... why not?

I need feedback. Tell me if you think anybody would play it, or if that's just me.

I'm really unsure if anyone woukd play this. I also have no idea how it would work...sounds quite complicated to me...

Yeah, well I would play this. And if you posted this on any RPG Maker xp forums, heaps of people will download it. Because its so different from all the other games you see. I think this is a potentially successful idea. I say that because it sounds like an idea that will take alot of hard work, and difficult to get it the way you want...but I say go for it.

Yes, thats I meant by difficult. I did a RGSS tutorial that had trigonometry in it. I hope you are good at maths and scripting because i think you will need alot of that to get this done. You could make your own golfing engine, and people couldmake their own golfing games.

Yeah, thats a good idea. Many people start up multiple projects, that makes it hard to dedicate to one project, so they both suffer because you dont put all your effort and ideas into one. This is only a concept at the moment though. I think you stick with you oringal project, just because its easier for you, and has a higher chance of succeding. Although, if you think you can do this, i think you should, it would definately get more attention .

I can do it... maybe...

I think I'm going to send the system idea to Sephirothspawn and see how he'd do it. If he thinks it's do-able and not to hard, I'll give it a go. If he laughs at me and tells me it's going to be really, really, really hard...

I'll still do it. Who am I kidding.

But in the meantime, On with the show! Pages must go on!

With a good plot and variety (Something like the number of characters you can play; The balance between their skills and abilities, their strengths and weaknesses), and a running golfing script, this would really work. A boss whose strength is in the power of his hits? A boss who is really accurate but couldn't really make a decent long shot? I'd definitely play it. But what crossed my mind if I'd have to figure out how to make it as well was the number of new variables that would enter, like:

  • Gravity -- Ball that flies will fall. Distance of ball, of course, depends on strength, flying angle and probably spin.

Wind -- Affects trajectory. Degree of change depends on wind strength, wind direction, as well as the current speed and height of the ball (spin too? I'm not sure, I don't really know the mechanics of golf that well).

Slope -- Ball would roll when it falls on a slope. I can't think how it would look like in RMXP yet, though. A special case of gravity.

Inertia -- Ball would take on different speeds that depend not only on the force of the character's hit but also on the grounds they're on. (Sand, grass, barren earth, dry earth, mud, the possibilities are limitless).

That's as far as my humble ideas would take me, though...

I really like the Idea of the game but I'm not sure if it would be good making it with RMXP O_o

cuz you will make everything up from teh scratch, so there's no advantge of using RMXP, it might even slow you down....... I say if anyone wants to make such a game, you should just use XNA or C#

I hate golf, but that's a terribly innovative idea... If they hadn't already done golf games with stuff like Mario and that crazy game I can't remember the name of where you rode the golf ball around as a weird creature... this would be completely original... I think. I like it... not sure I'd play it, but I'm picky about games.

I agree with others here... make a very interesting story and it could be cool. :)

Yep it's a pretty unique idea, too bad he isn't around anymore..

Guess what, boys and ghouls. I'm back. I've returned. Lovely isn't it? Rejoice with me.

So, you guys think this half-stoned idea is worth a shot? Alright. I always did love attention. Okies, I'll get right on this idea. I need to work out a Game Function document, figure some formulas, and look at some alternative engines. Torque Game Builder, for instance. I might have a White Page in a week, if we're all lucky.

If anyone wants in on this, I'm more than willing to share the work. Just speak up, and be counted brothers and sisters! Let the light guide you!

Or not. I'm a terrible evangelist.

You're Healed!!!!!
