Once school starts i will be on for about 3 hours a day 5 days a week.

I myself lack motivation for this forum. I tried really hard to make it active and used every idea i could think of, so that means I'm out of the game in terms of improving the site. Any suggestions of course, I'll be sure to take a look at.

 

I'm also on my last year of highschool and need to study hard to make it to university for next year. Unfortunately I'm almost 18 as well which is depressing, but at least I can buy alcohol once I'm 18 to cure that depression :P . Unlike many schools in other countries(I think I'm the only New Zealander on the site), at this time of the year we are nearing final exams. I work on weekends and pretty late too which sucks all the time I have out of the weekend. I'm off my computer a lot, and i love it.

 

There's also the matter of the forums fonts that are all small for some reason. I have no idea what it is, or if it's just my computer, but everything is smaller. Not that that's an excuse to be inactive, but does anyone see that?

 

Wyzrd and Arkbennett have also become somewhat inactive, and they sparked up the forums quite a bit. I think its a chain reaction though. A community cannot be sparked up if it does not exist.

 

The website is pretty much dead and finished. It was a big idea of mine and I had big ideas for it. Unfortunately with it only being me trying to add content into all those sections, it was never going to work out. Users very very rarely post their own content. I can say that the website is dead and will remain as it is now.

 

Perhaps RMXP Unlimited is coming to an end. Perhaps not. I can't see a day into the future for this forum, but with my lack of motivation there will not be too many changes. Emily_Konichi, here is your opportunity to step in, if you please. I trust anything you do with this forum will be a good decision.

 

Maybe this forum has been kept going longer than it should...I had kept this forum running because of the staff members here.

 

Maybe a makeover is in order? New skin new sections and everything. We have obtained 2000 members and 8000 posts so we have a good start of perhaps a new RMXP Unlimited. The forum belongs to the community, right? This is your forum, so what do you want? There are no limitations here.

Every site is slowing; and it is inevitable. However, the engine runs in cycles. People will come back into it, and check if this site is still around; trust me.

Yeha, he has his hand on a lot of projects; so we can expect great things. In fact, i guarentee that my line about 'short projects' won't be a lie. Just have to give it time.

I'm working on a character template and i think it might be a good idea to have this as the official forum template, we can have contests for this thing as well as begin working on some sort of rtp (in future), and as i've said on the resources section if we have enough pieces for this template we can make a character maker for it or better yet build something similar to the 2k3 charas forum site so that it is only accessible in this site. I think that more original material will help this place grow really fast because this is something most rmxp sites hardly have any of.

 

E- You can also put together a group of guys that can rip well and have a separate section for that sort of thing, same for original materials.

I'm really at a loss of suggestions as well...I think a lot about the future of my game making, though, and the only thing I could think of would be a revamp into an actual game making business, where we all work together to make one gamee, instead of all working on our own ideas. I mean, if we all came together, I'm sure we could do it...but it would take time and effort, and everyone would have to give all they can (not saying give everything, but 2-3 hours of your free time, assuming you have that, would be nice. STILL BE WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND GIRL/BOYFRIENDS, THOUGH. Don't quit your real life just for a non-profit group making free games). That's about my only recommendation, sorry if it doesn't help much. I know we tried the idea before, but I think we could again if we wanted to.

 

Also...maybe the program is just too out of date? Perhaps we should all turn our attention to other programs, like Adventure Game Studio, Game Maker, that sort of thing? I know a little about AGS, and could probably learn a lot more if I had a team to work with. I could program (heck, 5 people could program), someone else (multiple others maybe) for graphics, someone else (multiple others again if possible) working on music. We could form a group like Anonymous Game Developers Interactive, who made remakes of King's Quest 1 and 2, and Quest for Glory 2 using AGS.

The resource section is locked? How so? You can't access the Gallery? Also, I don't mind if users get resources and leave. For a struggling website at lease we are contributing something.

That would be great, but how long do you plan on staying here? You just arrived. Original material is hard to have, especially here. We do not have any active artists or at least none that produce a decent quantity of resources.

 

Contests in the past haven't worked out all that great due to lack of willing competitors. We can start and organize them easily enough, but we need members who are going to join in.

Why not, I'd support the idea. I think however the main component(this being the reason the other project failed) is a good Manager how can keep the team together and gives it direction. A real leader.

Forgive me i did not explain that part better, i meant that it is locked to visitors and some people will sing up to a forum to take resources and then vanish.

For the most part i've always quit when working on resources and such and i'm looking to start over in a new place, i'm willing to stick it out here if the forum becomes more active, i'm not the best spriter but i'm pretty damn good and i'd keep my stuff exclusive to the forum.

We appreciate your effort for helping to improve the forum with exclusive resources.

 

However, after trying to run this forum for almost two years(and I say this often), we aren't about to get active very quickly. Take a look at this graph:

This is our traffic from the 4th of August until yesterday, so about a month. There's no trend there, its not getting any better.

 

These days I'm too busy and unmotivated to do any work on the forum or website so it's going to be pretty much the same. I've made topics in the staff forums we have, to discuss ways of increasing activity. And we've improved forums and categories in the downloads manager and gallery until we got them just the way we wanted over the two years. After this time, if members coming into the forum were going to make it more active, it would have happened by now. It feels like we're on life support. And just by me saying this all the staff members are going to become unmotivated and ask themselves what is the point?

 

It is clear we need drastic change.

 

Oh, you mentioned deleting inactive members. I don't like pruning members. That will delete members accounts that I want to keep(staff and members from the first forum). And if I ever want to send out a bulk email I have a couple thousand email addresses to send to. I also find it annoying that the member ID doesn't match the number of registered users. For example, we have 2,418 members, but the latest member has an ID of 2,649(so his account is the 2649th to register). But that's just personal preference.

So long as our good friend isaacsol allows us to be hosted, I do not plan on closing it down. Even though I have completely put you off from making your resources exclusive to this forum and even being active here, I'm not saying you shouldn't. Single members' efforts have brought this from back from the dead on more than one occasion.

Hmm...we need a good manager...I really don't know about that...I honestly have all kinds of ideas for games, but I don't really know if I'd be a good manager...I don't like checking on people and how they are doing on resources, pictures, etc. So I probably wouldn't make a good manager...unless that's not what would be needed. I'd be willing to share some of my ideas, though. I have 3 we could try: Crystals of Chaos, Keys to Destruction, and my current Pokemon game. All three would be great games if we could get a team together to work on one of them. In either case, I have a story for the first two, and need graphics, scripts, etc. for all of them, so there would be work for anyone who wants to try. -will make a new topic about this-
