Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 This contest ended on November 8th, 2008 and This guy Arkbennett won. See the contenders' maps here just click download at the bottom. THE RULES WERE: Minimum size for a map: 50x45 Maximum size for a map: 60x75(whatever!) Must have a main interest point (or more for a bigger map) such as a river, lake, grand tree etc. Must be submitted as a non-encrypted game Must be submitted by Nov. 7th as judging will be on the 8th of Nov. You may PM me for your submission but I would rather you post it here (If you do PM it I will take a screen shot and post it here) Grassland tile-set, duh 5 Events Minimum, 15 Maximum No enemies, what-so-ever TIPS: You have all those auto-tiles at your disposal, even lava if you wish BGS is a great way to enhance the map If you have an event that is just for a sound or sound transition I won't count it as an event Bigger the map the better the score! Animals anyone? But be creative! Incorrect: Squirrel random movement Correct: Squirrel with custom move path that gives you a nut JUDGING Kiriashi and Wyzrd judged the contest. The ~~~PRIZE~~~ wasA key-code for RPG Maker VX (Completely legal as I bought it for something else but...) The contenders were: Chief *never submitted* Arkbennett *Submitted* Nisage *Submitted* Marked *Submitted* Leon *Submitted* polraudio *Submitted* THAT WAS FUN!!! Marked 197 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Rules on autotiles? Or is it using everything as default for that tilesest? This is a seriously hard task. You'd be crazy to use this tileset with those dimensions in an actual game. It's impossible to map with those few tiles.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 I know! :P That's the whole idea, because most people say it's easy to make a grassland. Nope, you can use what ever auto-tiles you want. Are you in Marked?
Nisage 31 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 The Woods Tileset is easier to make then the Grasslands (Just saying). And what about Common Events, will they count as Events?
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 The Woods Tileset is easier to make then the Grasslands (Just saying). And what about Common Events, will they count as Events? Depends, are you using them to make an item(doesn't count)? Or as a normal event(counts)?
Nisage 31 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 To change the background sounds.
Marked 197 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Background sounds will probably not be judged. But you're using common events for background sound? It's one map, just use the map properties. I hope background music will not be judged, just the appearance of the map. That way it's only the mapping skill that is being judged and not gameplay or anything else. Nope, you can use what ever auto-tiles you want. Are you in Marked?[/quote That changes everything... Well I have started a map just there is at least one entrant. That way I'll win regardless. I'm hoping Leon will see this topic and read this post so he will join in. He's beat me twice before, I want another round :D
Nisage 31 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 If the sounds are not going to be judged, then I don't have to worry about the Common Event then. (Makes things alot easier now)
Marked 197 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Hey, did you change the minimum size? I had already started making a map of that size.... now I'm over the maximum...can you please change the minimum or at least maximum within range of 50x45?

Marked 197 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Okay I should have said just made the maximum larger than 50x45. It's better the minimum is smaller so it's easier. Anyway, here's my submission: Oct08_Mapping_Contest.zip

Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 I'll go against you guys. It's cool. Oh, and you shouldn't show the submissions 'till the contest is over. People can cheat and still mapping ideas ya know!

Leon 55 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 2 questions: 1: Are we allowed custom auto-tiles? 2: Are we allowed scripts?
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 I think its just the default you are aloud to use
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 You can use any auto tile yes, but no scripts. If you could use scripts, what would you do? Just curious.... Hope you join! 8 days left.
Leon 55 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 What would I do with scripts? Apparently you don't know me too well. heh heh heh... I've done everything from randomized weather to a Real Time based script; etc. Even have fun with shadows. A map is a work of art, not a plane for which the player to walk across. It is something to be valued as one of the larger parts of games.

I know you are a crazy good scripter, and I'm trying to learn what I can now that I bought RMXP.. *puts you down as a contender*
Leon 55 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 For instance, with the Call Script command, I can hit any script in the database; ergo, I can write one that would trigger to do ANYTHING. But smaller examples would be casting shadows from a fire; cause weather effects to change randomly without taking up RAM, stuff like that.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted October 28, 2008 Ok people, how are the maps coming? I know Marked and Leon are finished, how are the rest of ya'lls (lol I'm Texan) maps coming? Oh! Guess what, long story short I have an extra RPG Maker VX key-code, so whoever wins gets VX!! Thats the prize, good luck all.
