CMS question

Question

Veteran RPG Maker here. Been using Rm2k since 2002, but moved to rmxp a while ago.

I don't want to use scripts, unless I really have to. That's just not my style. ;)

I want to use a Custom Menu System similar to the ones I used in Rm2k. But I can't. The Custom Menu System I used to make in Rm2k was opened on the map, so the character wasn't teleported to a map which was the menu. I can make this menu in Rmxp as well, but the problem is that I can open it at ANY TIME. In the middle of a "cutscene" when someone is talking, etc.

In Rm2k there was this handy checkbox "Allow other events to continue" or something like that, was the name. Uncheck the box, and other things can not happen while while somebody is talking. This handy checkbox does not exist in Rmxp. My guess is that it is changed somewhere in the script, something I have no idea how to change.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I would really appreciate it! Thanks beforehand. :B):

Let me ask you one question to help me help you. You want to make a Custom Menu System by using events and you want it not to come up while someone is talking?

That's right. The menu uses pics, so if you press ESC to open the menu, the pics show. And they show even when someone is talking. This screws up the whole game basically. <_<

Thank you for the reply. :B):

Parallel process? I don't really understand what your saying. And is Rm2k RPG Maker 2003? Because I have that and want to see this custom menu thing.

The menu is called upon via Common Events in the database, just as my old games in Rm2k. (RPG Maker 2000)

It doesn't matter if i make them parallel process or autostart, the menu can still be called even when someone is talking. The checkbox I'm talking about (the one in rm2k) made it possible to disallow the menu from being used when someone was talking.

I could, but this would suck, add a switch on and a switch off on every event in the game that involves a message... But that would be so TEDIOUS. There HAS to be another way to prevent the menu from being used when other events are running!

At my old site http://www.freewebs.com/jp-rj there is an old demo called Guardian Angel, I want to use a menu similar to that one, but in RMXP.

I think its the only way to do it if your using events for a CMS

If that's really the only way... I guess I should have stuck with 2000. :o

Why remove that checkbox, why, oh why? It was really helpful.

Isn't there a script that can make it so other events cant run while someone is talking?

Its a lot easier to make a CMS with scripts.

Wouldn't be so sure of that. In the old games I made a fully working CMS with graphics via images, in less than 30 minutes. I can do that now, too, but as I already mentioned I can call the menu at ALL TIMES.

If I have to use a script, can someone direct me to the most efficient and/or tell me how to even implent a script? I'm the noobiest scripter the world ever saw, but I'm damn good at events.
