Most/Least favorite parts of making a game.

Recommended Posts

What is everybody's favorite part of making a game? What about the least favorite?

I got to tell you, my favorite part is innovating new systems and implying them into a game. Creating a new system brings thrills one could never imagine.

As for my least favorite; I'd have to say creating animations; but a close second is mapping towns. Animations I can NEVER make. Not in a hundred years. As for mapping a town, well... let's just say it is time consuming.

My favorite is brainstorming ideas and writing them down.

The imagining it.

My least favorite part is realizing it won't be as great as I imagined and finding resources.

Yeah, my hates are: searching for resources, getting stuck in eventing (I have Arky but I wanna know it myself, its just so da*n annoying!) and story line writing (and all other writing((thinking what to do)))

I love: mapping towns (hehe, Leon) mapping in general, making funny events, making puzzles (this is where my second hate comes into play)

Ahh.... RPG Maker Xp, so many fun things that can be so hard and boring.

My most favorite part would have to be the story. when ever i come up with a new idea for the story i have to open up RMXP and try this new idea no matter what im doing.

My least favorite part would have to be making the monsters the right way. I hate having to get the right amount of HP,MP, STR DEX, etc.. it takes up so much time.

Most favorite? Possibly creating cutscenes. I enjoy creating animations, usually, but it can get tedious after a while. I have fun creating monsters, although there is a point where it gets tedious, as well. I love creating characters and plot.

I suck as a pixel artist. If you ever see a project of mine, rest assured-- anything you see in it was created by somebody else, or a program like Character Maker.

But what really can bog me down is mapping. I'm slowly getting to the point where I don't suck, but lord, I am not good at it.

I agree with making cutscenes, they are fun to make, especially animations.

What I hate is that when I think I have everything I need for a game. Later I find something that can be useful for it, so I have to remodify the game, sometimes the whole game :( So I'm trying to find everything that can be useful then continue on with my game(s).

Yeah, tell me about it.

I discovered that creating a game goes so much faster if I just use the default battle system, skills, animations, whatever... but that doesn't work for me anymore. I've learned how to do more, and I like the results of the slightly-different-bashed-together battle system that I use.

But now it takes three times as long to do anything.

So, new map. New monsters. Well, I can't use the ones that came with the game. Or most of the ones that I've seen online, because I just had to go and create a sideview battle system. So I need to figure out what I can do with the graphics.

...and those monsters need skills. And those skills need animations. And that means that I need to create custom animations, and also custom animation framesets, because my fancy-shmancy half-assed battle system works better with them.

And on, and on, and on...

The results, I hope, will be worth it.

favorite part i coming up with story idea's and imagining how they turn in-game. also thinking of characters and their background story.

least favorite is everything to do with the database menu. and eventing too. eventing kills my braincells slowly.

Okay seriously stop necroposting.

I hate making the story of games because I always get writers block.
