A suggestion for the 'SP' (script points)

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have given this a little thought, and with the popularity of Name That Game!, come to a conclusion. Is it possible for this site to set up a 'Site Point' system? It would be similar to CA's AP system, however with the SP gathered here, different members could do things in exchange for said points. Granted, the earning of points would be based off posts or contests, and this in turn would affect my system in Name That Game!'s thread.

Now, what I was thinking is set it up so we could base a point exchange system like this:

Scripts by Leon: 2 lines per SP given.

Icons by ____: 4 pixels per SP given. (144 points)

Character Sets by ____: 400 SP given.

This also would allow people to set their own rates in exchange for SP. Make it almost a monetary system. Personally, I find this to be a fun and new idea for the site to not only attract people, but a way (and a motive) to share our abilities and resources.

Please, give me feedback, because to me, this sounds like fun.

This sounds good, I'm sure it could be set up but it's up to the admin.

This may come as a surprise, but we have a points system.

wehavpointsgs0.png

Like 90% of the features of this site, it's unused.

However this is far different from your idea, which I like. The main issue with it is that a member of the forum would have to allocate the points to the members. This is a problem because the member who allocates the points will have to read all of the posts on the forum and be constantly active. Sorta like an admin. Although I can make it so topics are worth more points, and topics in certain forums are worth more points.

I like the idea though. I could set it up easily enough. For the points system at the moment, I removed all visibility of it on the board(topic view etc.). I think it could become popular. If the points are rare enough I think it could create some competition and some contributors could get some recognition for how hard the work.

EDIT: I think I read your post wrong, Leon. You will script 2 lines per SP that a particular member will earn? And other skilled members also create resources in exchange for SP. This means I would have to give those members something in return also...

Basically, points would be like money. I would script 2 lines of code for every 1 point someone gave me, and it would be their code. (unreleased unless they say otherwise). Now, the average script is about 200 lines or more, so about 100+ points. We'd just need other venders as well. This is a great way to pursuede others to share their talents.

Damn it, I was on the phone while i was editing my post and you posted before I could.

Okay I see what you mean now. We have plenty of talented members on the forum, though will you and others do this for other members? What do you expect in return?

Well, I will do it. And in return, I will get points to be used at other venderrs. For instance, I SUCK at animations. So the points i would accumulate could go to someone to make animations for me. Or battlers, title screents, etc. Just a way of buying and selling goods.

I'll compose music, probably at 2 points per second. I'll also offer my sage advice on game design, as well as script writing (as in the story, not programming), and character development. I've noticed quite a lack in these areas in every game I've worked on.

I really don't know what I'll do with all of my points though. At this time I've decided to stop making games. Never got very far, and I don't really have the time for it.

I will join in once I find a suitable skill that the community can benefit from.

I have another idea for this. As well as buying the skills of talented members, I could also supply advertising on the website. Just a small banner somewhere or something like that. It will get 100+ views per day, and that's on the main page alone and not any of the scripts or other content pages. Either time or clicks could be bought. For example. 100SP = 1 week or 100 clicks of the banner. However no websites will be allowed to advertised, only things like projects and the Scrive for example.

I see you're already getting into it, Pol. I'll try and modify the current points system the best I can to create a system that will work. One thing though is we really have to keep points rare. That, or increase the cost per SP of everything.

I'll remove the bank and lottery systems. They would increase SP of members who've done nothing to get the extra SP. I'll make it so members can send and receive SP between each other. Enable points for posting in contributing forums only(Projects, Scripts, Resources). And allow Admins and Global Moderators to allocate points where deserved. I'm not 100% sure I can create all of this at the moment, but that's the plan so far. Is this the basics of the idea of your system, Leon?

EDIT: By the way, I'm not actually back on the forums yet. I finish in 10 days from now(28th Nov) but today I'm having a break. I've done some work on the system.

Everyone now has 0 SP Points as you should be able to see under your post count. There is a little icon(send_pm_small.png) which you can click to "Donate Points" to that member. Yeah I know its an email icon, I'll find another later.

In the Points CP you can do a whole lot of stuff, just click the link to see.

To get points, make a topic(not post) in the following forums:

Utilities & Enhancements

Resources

RMXP/RMVX Tutorials

RGSS/RGSS2 Scripts

Eventing Systems

Projects & Teams

Recruitment

Completed games

User Submitted Projects

For each topic made, you get 2 points, except Completed Games where you get 4. You also get 1 point for every post(reply) made in the support forums. This however also means the member receiving support also gets points if he replies.

This will need a lot of testing before it works properly...

You hit my idea right on the nose, and thus, makes me happy. I'm sure we can find out if this all works. Either way, we do need to supply a list of who offers what services. Put me down for icons at 50 points each, and scripts 2 lines a point.

I love the idea of this, I think it is a great thing, could help make the site grow. Not sure I could be a vendor for anything but I might buy stuff. :D

After we develop the system a bit more, I will make an announcement and link to an FAQ article about how to get points, and what/who you can spend them on.

So far members have accumulated 5 points. Undwight with the most at 3 points for contributing to the website. That will probably soon be 6 once his other tutorial is published there. Posting in the tutorial section is currently worth 2 points, but if it gets added to the website you get an extra +1 for the contribution.

EDIT: You guys aren't going to like this...

I found a newer version of the points system, but its proving very difficult to get working. The main problem being I'm upgrading to a very newer version. I don't have Dreamweaver at the moment, which is what I use for modifications. An IPS keeps showing.

The new version is not working, but its much better than the one we were using(even though its not installed 100% yet). Especially in the permissions part of the mod. I'll try and fix it and have it up and running as soon as I can. Sorry about this...

I recommend we have 2 people distribute points. One person based in if a topic has higher quality than another; and the other for contests and events. I would like volunteer to be the distributor of points in the Contest/Event system. And as for the one going around, if Wyz has no objections, I nominate him.

I'm fine with that. I read everything posted on the site. I'm also usually on several times throughout the day.

The old system is back and will stay until I come back on the 28th Nov. After that date, we will upgrade to the newer system. Wyzrd will not be able to moderate the points until the new system is available. Sorry about this, it annoys me just as much that I couldn't get the system working. But I really need to set my priorities at the moment.

Keep discussing more features of the system in this topic though. We need to decide which forums you get points for posting/making topics in. And if every member should one point on registering just to start them off. Things like that. I was also thinking that we could have a profile field stating if you're a vender or not so members know where to spend their points(a profile field is like the RPG Maker Level or Current Project etc. so its in the topic view)

I think we should have the profile field. I agree with one point for registering.

I say more than 1... I mean, if you take into consideration the Name That Game series, they may need more. It all depends on how the points flow will we decide the ratios of the spending, and the venders prices. Let's find out as time goes.

Whoa, I totally missed this topic. Sorry for the abscence guys! lol.

Anyhow. First off, this is one of the best ideas to hit RMXP. It could significantly get this site going.

However, I disagree with posting and getting SP points. I think they should be awarded through contests, or other contributions like uploading files to the resources database.

There is another issue I have, and it is contests. It's hard to explain what I'm trying to say, but I feel like people won't take creating them into thought and will just spam them, either that, or jack up the SP reward. I'm really not pointing at any members, I'm just pointing at human nature.

I almost wanna say we should get contests approved by the admins and or staff. If we were bigger, we could have a "council" type situation who could vote on this matters. But I'm not suggesting this, just commenting on a possible "Cheat the system" situation people might use.

Oh, and instead of an admin who gives out points to winners by going through every single topic, the host of the contest should PM the Admin and make him aware of a new contest and the winners. I'm not trying to make the admin appear "lazy" or anything. I just know the admins have their own lives, and they can't be browsing the forum through every topic all day. Especially when the forum is getting bigger and bigger.

I see what you are saying Ark, and the way Marked, Wyz and I see it, far as i know, s the following:

There will be 2 people incharge of distributing points (as to make it so Marked doesn't have the headache). Wyz will be watching topics and posts; since he reads all of them; and distributing points accordingly based on if they are helpful (not spam) and if it contributes to the society.

I'll be distributing based on contests. NOTE: Any contest not run by myself will be allowed to distribute a set number based on how much I think it should be worth.

This should nullify most efforts in cheating the system.

Is there going to be a topic where we see our points or will there be an actually amendment to this site so we could actually see them like under our Avatar.

Also, based on what Arkbennett said, how about members voting for whose topics/posts are helpful/spam-ish...... or would that be to notorious? I'm trying to think if I could be a vendor. Hmmmm.... something having to do with tileset fusing, maybe?
