Help installing RGSS scripts

Question

Hi, everyone!

I'm new on this site, and quite new to the amazing RMXP program. Still, I'm trying to make the most out of the program and customize as much as I can, staying as far off the beaten path as I can. For that reason, I've been trying to use as many scripts as I can get my paws on. But... er... I've been having encountering some complications...

First of all, when I go to the "RGSS Scripts" section, where all you need to do is copy and paste the scripts into your script editor, I can copy the scripts just fine. However, when I actually go to paste the script, it pastes the entire script on one line. Naturally, the game can't read the script and it is made useless.

How can I paste the scripts properly, on many lines, so that the game can actually read them?

Often the scripts come with downloadable zip folders. Do these contain anything I need to help install the scripts?

Thank you for your time. I don't mean to be a burden on anyone... I'm just trying to improve my game to make it more fun to play.

Thanks again.

Hey Mellevon, welcome to the site.

I assume by copying the scripts you mean one from the site which is an external script. Like this one for example:

When you paste them into RMXP, if they go one line the program can read the script of course. Lines are there so humans can read and edit the scripts more easily. Of course a script would not run properly on one line because of all the comments made. As soon as a "#" is encountered, everything after is not read because its a comment.

What I suggest you do is paste the script in a word editor first. Not notepad, but wordpad or microsoft word etc. Just something that allows you to paste text, and it copies with all the lines it should have. Then copy it again and paste it into RPG Maker XP from there. Hopefully that will maintain the line structure.

With the .zips you were talking about. These are demo projects that contain the scripts. Open the script editor and copy and paste the script to your game. These scripts are usually a little more complicated though.

The site is down at the moment because we're upgrading something. It will hopefully be up very soon though.

What he means is you need to extract the file by right clicking on the file and clicking extract files. Then open the project file and copy the script editor and copy the script.

I am away until November 28th. Please don't PM me because I will be tempted to read it and come online...

Lol thats a bad thing?

Lol thats a bad thing?

Since I have an exam in 2 hours, yeah... :D

I'll move this topic to the RGSS Support forum.

I also do intend on changing the way the scripts are displayed on the site. I could not get them to display well, so I decided to have them in external html files. The Ring Menu for example:
