Virus Problem

Recommended Posts

I was downloading a video from a site I always download them from, I left the computer for a while. AS soon as I got back, there where pop-ups and a virus called minrar (believe that's how it's spelled) on it. I went to the add/remove programs and got rid of it, I tried a system restore, but they were all gone. Only estore point left was the time the virus hit. I tried it anyway..... It seems to be gone, but it's effect is still on the pc. I went to Internet Options to see if anything changed, the "Privacy" tab was changed, the cookie blocker was on "Accept all cookies" I changed it back to it's normal setting, but when I opened Internet Option s again to see if I missed anything, it was back on "Accept all cookies". I don't know what to do, This is my second time typing this since the first was interupted by (none of you will believe this) the tab on the internet page. What I mean is the internet was opening new tabs so I couldn't finish typing this, it closed automaticly since there were too many tabs open (and I wasn't even pressing the keyboard when that happened) Marked, didn't you post a topic with a link to a virus scanner/killer? If I have top reboot my pc again, I will, but I want to know if there's a way to not and save all my stuff on it. The videos I can always get, the songs..... harder but I can get again, but my VX/XP games, NO WAY!!!!!! Please can someone help me? In case if anyone is wondering, I'm using a different pc whle trying to deal with the virus infeccted one....? One of the programs I removed is back, something called advertisement (forgot the second word)

Try to install and run a good antivirus program (such as AVG) on the infected computer. Try to do it in safe mode. If you can't you will have to remove the hard disk, attach it to another computer and run the antivirus from the working computer.

Try to do a backup of the important files in the same way.

In the future, use a good antivirus program, a safe internet browser (e.g, firefox) and a good firewall (e.g. sunbelt).

go to avira.com and download their free antivirus. I have had bad experiences with AVG (no offense, Bahamut)

Bahamut-> How do you enter safe mode? And I have Notron, it doesn't work apparently (or it has but isn't working now). And I've tried firefox before, it wouldn't work so I uninstalled it.

Leon -> Which one do I download?

Oops, I spelled the virus name wrong, it's called Mirar, along with something called Advertisement Service. I did a little googling for some info on mirar, and found this http://fix-computer-problem.com/adware/mirar/mirar.html Has anyone been on this site before, and if so has it been helpful?

Luckly I have a 2 GB flashdrive so I can save certain files, and I'm hoping Megaupload can hold the rest if my flashdrive is full.

Here, try this

I'm downloading it now.

I suggest Spybot, Advanced system care, and Ad-Aware 2008 thats what i use to fix my computer.

I have no idea what those are.

Oh-uh, I just looked to see how many GB I have to see if it increased, it did. I can only assume that a few things were deleted, so I went to look in C:\Program Files to see if anything was deleted/added (I took a pic of all the files just in case) well nothing looks like they were deleted, but some new files yes. And they wont delete no matter how many times I press the Delete button or right-click and delete. Oh come on... -sigh- and now something new has installed itself in add/remove programs, I tried to remove it and it opened this site.......http://command.adservs.com/uninstall.php

Edit: In case if anyone is wondering, I got 5 GB back, there's no way I can find out what was deleted.

Ad-Aware 2008 is a pretty good program, I use it...I also have AVG and Spybot, and to top it all off my dad has a license for PrevX...which is a pretty powerful anti-virus program. My computer is practically invincible. lol

Anyways you can try PrevX's 30 day trial and see if that will help, the homepage is here. I'm hoping this will take care of your problem, I'm pretty sure it will too, PrevX is awesome...though you will need to pay after the trial.

I only have Norton, which apparently doesn't work (and now Avira, which I need to figure out how to change the email for it since my email will be deleted in a few days) I'm broke at the moment so I'd have to delete it after the trial. I'm still shocked that I can't do a system restore, never had tha problem before.

Don't use Norton (anti)virus.

To go into safe mode, it will depend on the type of computer and system you have installed. So you can google for your version of windows. You need to run an antivirus ASAP.

So Norton isn't good huh? Figures. The computer is a HP Media Center PC (according to a lable on it) and when I start it up a screen says it's a Windows XP... forgot the rest, I'll edit this comment once I find out what the rest was.

Then I'll make sue to never get the next version again. ?, I think I found my pop-up source, something calld Mjcore, when I googled it I get alot of things saying... here's what one link description say's about it.... "We suggest you to remove Mjcore.dll from your computer as soon as possible. Mjcore.dll is Trojan/Backdoor. Kill the file Mjcore.dll and remove Mjcore.dll" But when I try to go to those links, it re-directs me to a different site. So here, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls...US&q=mjcore, maybe someone else can ty to those sites and see if anything can help since this computer cant enter those sites.

Thanks for the help everyone, I never was good with things like this. I normally go to Best Buy and they deal with it. But I don't want to lose anything (along with another problem [$]) I'm glad I posted a help topic here, the Avira is working greatly. I'll try that site next Wyzrd. -grunts- not again........

Question for all. Has the internet tabs ever acted weird for you? What I mean is, you're typing in a reply to a PM or a topic, then the next thingh a new tab opens without you doing it, and it keeps opening a new tab every second until the internet window closes completely. It's happened to me at least 3 times.

With XP, i have had IE do that before. Just open 1 new window after another. Almost froze my computer...

Make that 4 times now. I woner why that happens, and now Avira is acting nuts. When I tried to open XP or VX to work, it though it was a virus, same for opening the Internet, Recycle Bin, you get the idea. When 6 virus warnings come up at once when you try to open a folder/program, you know something is wrong. I'm even getting a virus warning just for typing this post <_<.

EDIT: And something just logged me out again for no reason.

It doesn't sound crazy, but how do you reinstall Windows XP?

Then daily scans.

I should start doing that after whats happened.

But you should try ad-aware 2008 here http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

I'll install it once I get home and not using the college computer to stay online.

Before I forget again, a friend from singapore (probably spelled that wrong) saind that if I put files in the D: drive (or whatever it's called) the files will still be there even if I reboot. Is that true?

If your computer came with a windows XP CD then restart with the CD in.

Read below about recovery drive.

If your Recovery Drive is D: the yes it will, but theres not much space on the recovery drive.

If you have a Recovery Drive then you should be able to push a certiant button when its on the boot screen and you can enter recovery mode and it will be just like having the XP CD.

No idea if it came with the CD or not. But if it did, then I probably lost it.

It is Recovery Drive D, this'll save room on my flashdrive.

The next time I turn it on I'll look for the word "recovery". Is it like a system restore, or reboots the whole thing completely?

Its like if you have the CD. and it makes your computer like you just bought it from the store so none of your files will be there.

Sorry for not replying, had a lot of college homework, along with celebrating 2 birthdays in a row.

Its like if you have the CD. and it makes your computer like you just bought it from the store so none of your files will be there.

So none of my files will be there unless they are in Recovery Drive D, I was afraid of that. But I have to face the facts, I might have to do a system restore since the pop-up blocker isn't working, neither is the privacy tab in Internet Options. I'll go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ to see if anyone there can fix those 2 problems. But I believe the virus is gone, even though some ad-ware got on in a few days after a scan.
