Ishtar Chronicles (FULL)

Recommended Posts

Main Idea:

I've decided to combine all of my games into one very long game.

Using the Character Reincarnation System, there will actually be only a hand full of characters, but their name and images change after each chapter.

Chapter 1 is about the creation of Ishtar and birth of the four gods.

Chapter 2-7 are about idividual characters who greatly impacted Ishtar's history.

Chapter 8 is about the Apocalypse and Ishtar's path to destruction.

I want to use all of my old work in making this game. I don't think I've mentioned this before, but I've been writing storys and drawing comics for about seven years now.

My goal in making this game is to finally finish all the stories and put them into one game.

It's going to take a lot of work, though.

Anyone want to help out? I need Beta testers or any kind of support will do.

I'm making a bunch or duplicate maps to show changes over time. Streams become rivers, bridges appear, and towns appear and disappear.

Some cities that were in chapter 2 will be ancient ruins by chapter 6.

Also, towards the end of the game,I'm going to have a time traveling point.Like a specific map that is linked to every time period, unchanged throughout the ages.Kind of like that Zelda game where Link turns into a kid and adult at will.(Orcarina of Time?)

Introduction:

A long time ago there was a young boy and girl who fell in love. Sadly, the boy was very sick and frail,so he was confined to a hospital bed for most of his life. His only friend was that girl.

The girl was very cheerful and happy to see him.Unlike the boy,she was always very healthy, and rarely got sick. She excelled at sports and her grades were always next to perfect. She wanted to live enough for both of them.

One day, while getting the boy some food, she was attacked. The boy rushed out to help her,but it was too late.

As she was dying, she held the boy's hand and promised that they would see each other again.

Shortly after she passed on,the boy died as well, having lost his will to live.

The girl's father was a genetisist who dreamed of colonizing a new planet. After his daughter's death,he preserved her remains,so he could try to clone her later. After twenty years of searching for another

planet that could support human life,he finally found one. He and his team named it Ishtar, after the goddess

of fertility. However, they soon realized that Ishtar wasn't as uninhabited as they thought.

What they had assumed were mountains, were actually monsters! They gave them the "Natives."

After killing one of the them and examining its DNA,they discovered that it had Canine,Feline,Serpertes, and Aves characteristics.

Isolating each of these four traits, the genetisists began breeding their own monsters to fight back against the Natives.

During this time, the father had finished cloning his daughter and made her four monsters to protect her.

He gave her the new name,Arina, and entrusted her with a special tiara that, when used, would emit high pitched sound to hypnotically control the four monsters.(These four monsters would be later known as the four gods of Ishtar.)

Storyflow:

The story centers around the boy and girl, the intro tells about.

Throughout Ishtar's history, the boy and girl are continously reincarnated.

Their souls are bound to each other by fate until they are finally reunited.

Good story. Makes me want to play it. When is the demo going to come out so i can test drive this game?

Sounds like it would be a good game to sink 40 hours in to.

Okay here is the Chart of Reincarnation:

ChartofReincarnationPic3.jpg

The first chapter though, isn't too hard to make, I have the modern version of the maps,so all I have to do is

de-modernize it(remove the people,cities,bridges,etc),then add the Natives.

The first chapter is about making the planet more hospitable by exterminating all the big Native monsters.

The regular monsters don't come out of hiding until the big ones are gone.

So,there's no random battles in the first chapter. Also, the giant Natives are more powerful than the final boss,

but then,so is the main character at this point.

I'm setting the game up to have alternate endings.

There are two main characters, either one has the potential to kill the final boss, but both are not required.

So it's possible to have one of them die and clear the game with the other one,but those are sad endings.

Also, there will be three ultimate weapons in the game. These are the only weapons that can kill the final boss.

Depending which one the player gets, will greatly effect which ending is unlocked.

The Final Destiny, for example, can kill the final boss, but as you know,it kills its user, too. So,obviously, that's not

a weapon that will give a happy ending.

Peter-----------------------Calill

Age:15---------------------Age:16

Height:5'1"-----------------Height:5'5"

Weight: 92 lbs.------------Weight:112 lbs.

Peter_face.png-------------Calill_face.png

Peter comes off as rude and mean to most people.

Even though he can barely walk,he still refuses assistance from anyone.

With the fear of death gradually consuming him,he tries to conceal his pain and suffering from everyone.

He acts tough to hide his weakening health.

Despite his bad attitude,Peter likes having people to talk to,

even if he's just yelling at them and calling them idiots.

Being confined to a bed all the time means having a very little social life.

(Greatest Fear: Being alone.)

Calill is open and friendly with everyone she meets.

Her warm smile and kind heart draws people to her like a magnet.

She also has the magical ability to see right through all of Peter's posturing.

Having been his friend since childhood, she understands him better than anyone else.

Calill can be quite a show off, too.

Since her mother died and her father is rarely home, she constantly pushes herself

to be the best at everything just to get attention and praise.

(Greatest Fear: Being ignored.)

These distinct personality traits stick with them throughout ALL of their reincarnations.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Support Characters:

Fianna Fianna_face.png

While Calill has the four gods' supporting her,Peter has Fianna.

Fianna, formally known as the Great Dragon, was originally created as a back-up in case Arina

was destroyed or went out of control.

Since that didn't happen,Fianna wasn't activated until Chapter 2 by the "Final Boss."(Not saying who.)

Her real personality is very timid and shy. However, don't let that fool you.

She is EASILY more powerful than all four gods put together, which is why everyone is terrified of her.

Fianna's body was designed to be immortal. In extreme circumstances,or by command of her master,

her body breaks apart into two halfs,LoranaLoranafax3.pngand PriscillaPriscillafax3.png.

After being saved by Ryan in Chapter 2,she recognizes him(as well as his reincarnations)as her new master.

Clarification Notes:

I wanted to point out that the scientists who made the monsters, never referred to them as "gods".

The ignorant humans who descended from them did. This is similar to the people who dance around an erupting volcano and pray to a volcano god for forgiveness.

Okay,so far I've got the intro and chapter 1 finished. I'm still deciding on what part of the game I want to make the demo for.

Any ideas?

Intro?Early chapters,Mid chapters?or maybe way towards the end.

I... I didn't see this? This is beautiful. It makes me want to make my own game again! Keep at this dude! I'm going to look for a hospital tileset!

And a demo would be awesome! I love the sprites!

No problem, this really deserves a lot of praising IMO; the story line is just superior to anything I've managed to scratch up! (That's why I stick with anti-story-line mapping)

Few updates.

I decided to make Lorana and Priscilla available in every chapter after 2,and I've removed Natalie from Chapter 2.

So,Calill gets Chapter 1 to herself, and Peter gets Chapter 2.

Also I've decided to make The Final Destiny an unusable item, not a weapon, that can only be used during the final battle

of each chapter.

So no more using it to spam kill. =)

Plus I've made it so Calill can only use swords, and Peter can only use lances.

Okay,I decided to change how the girl dies. It seemed stupid for them to both die of illnesses.

Now,I have it where she gets attacked by street thugs on her way to bring back some non-hospital food for the boy. That makes more sense, right?

Yea it does. Sounds better.

That makes perfect sense! She walks to the hospital to bring the boy (Peter?) some food that isn't made of tasteless white filth and the thugs rape her... or ask for the food and she says no, causing the thugs to kill her. Not only does this make the player feel more emotional, but it makes more sense for the boy to let himself die after he realizes that she died after trying to make his life worth living.

Oh yeah!

I'll play it later today! I'm not on the right computer right now (Mac = no RTP and no .NET framework)

Okay,how the the demo works:

The game has a lot of choices in it,different conversations are triggered by each choice.

Also, how Calill dies varies. Was she run over by a car or did she got shot?

I'm in desperate need of more car sprites by the way.

Plus I obviously need to fine tune the eventing a bit so they spawn better.

Originally,I was going to make the conversations random, but I decided it was better to have control so the player could build their relationship. Maybe even add a dating sim in,too.

looks good so far but its kind of hard to find the exit of the hospital.

I know, but I'm not sure how to mark the door way. You can't put a door mat because old people would slip on it. Calill does show you where the door is in Scene One,though.

The demo isn't very long, but it took a good while to make. Lots of custom sprites!

You wouldn't believe how hard it was to position Peter's sprite so it would be in the bed during the game.

Also,I hate Game Overs. The easiest way to get to the final chapter of the game is to keep dying.

Each chapter ends when the main characters are killed.

However, you lose valuable training time, and you won't get any of the rare items or bonus characters.

People die,it's a natural part of life. What you do while you're alive is what counts.

Keeping Items Between Chapters:

Okay,I've thought of a way for the player to keep items between chapters. The Egyptian kings buried their possessions with them,so that's what I'm going to do with the player's items between chapters. Maybe have an option to bury them like pirates do to prevent grave robbers.

End Game Characters:

Nina

Elf_face.png

Nina's Sprite

Elf.png

The High Princess of Ishtar's native civilization.

The group finds out that the elves have the power to summon giant monsters at the cost of their own lives.

They did this as a last resort to stop the human invaders.

They realize that all the monsters Arina killed(or Fianna,if Arina failed) were Nina's family.

The elves sealed her and her brother away inside the great tree in order to keep them alive.

Her brother is one of the the last bosses in the game, which can be avoided by having her with you.

The group finds out where the real final boss is,by Nina's bewildered reaction to the moon.

They realize that Ishtar doesn't normally have a moon.
