Marked 197 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 What are the things that inspire you to work on your game? Or while you are working on it? Everybody can put down forums on their list, but thats an obvious one. For me, well, I havent had much insiration to make an RMXP game. But I can tell you one thing that inspires me. Almost a year ago, on May 7th, I started a forum and called rpgxp unlimited. It was 11pm so I had to go to bed. I could hardly sleep because I was so excited about my forum. Over the next couple of days I worked on all the forums and everything, from the time I got home, to the time I went to sleep. I was quite young I guess you could say, but i was really excited about it. A couple of days after that, a member named Blazinks joined. No one was really posting, as the forum was quite new and had nothing on it. I send him a PM saying, maybe you should introduce yourself or make a few posts. He replied back, I'd love to! So he became the first of two active members. Then another one came, he joined a while ago, but he came back. He kept coming back and became quite active. So it was the three of us for a long while, but it was great. I would go on everyday, and it was always fun. I became good friends with these two members. Then one day I decided to move the forums, that was easy enough, but we had lost all the posts and topics and members. There were a few problems, and one day I tried upgrading, and it caused an error in the database. The host then would not let me upload the database. I didnt want to start again, again. Then I tried to buy the old database to use here, but It would have taken too long. The forums were down for a month, and I was scared that I would lose the only two active members I had, and I did. I felt that I had let them down. I had became friends with them, its silly really, I mean, I dont even know them really. So now I dont want to let them down again, I would given up a long time ago if it wasnt for them, and thats what inspires me. So im going to try my hardest to get this forum the best it can, because im not going to let down my friends again. Then one of them came back, and became active once more. But the other, well, he's gone. He said he would come back, but its not rmxp ulimited without him. This is quite a shortend story, I could write on forever. Thats not exactly what you are suppose to write about, more about what inspires you with your games. But if its related to rpg maker xp, go ahead.
Grandor 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 Well, what inspires me game wise, is the ability to make a game, that actually reflects life in general. I wanted to make my game as engaging as possible, while making people think about their actions. Far to often in life, do people fail to realize (including myself) that the actions they may be doing now, will affect them somehow in life. I wanted to create a game, that would show people, their are consequences, for peoples actions, and put the emotion of real life in it. Everyone has felt sad, mad, happy, whatever in their lives. I wanted to incorporate all those emotions on a fictional character, because if you play my game, you would realize, while the character may seem fake, he really isn't, because he acts in the same way as we do, with the same emotions. Now, as for what inspires me to keep going, is success. I have seen failures, and the one thing they all share in common is that they think they can't amount to anything. Why? Because their not trying. It usually takes 1 million tries to get something right, while to somebody else it may only take one try. Does that mean you're stupid? No, it just means your going about it wrong. I get inspired every time something works out for me, or something goes right. That pushes me further to keep that going, and to make everything go right again. I know things won't always go right all the time, so I have to better prepare myself for dealing with it, when it doesn't. And hopefully, through this inspiration, I can achieve success in all fields of my life. That's my say on the matter. ~Grandor.
EmilyAnnCoons 7 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 I'm not really sure, truthfully...I get inspired to make games by making stories. I get inspired to write stories by opening Microsoft Word and beginning to type...ideas just flow from there...same with my game...the ideas just flow out as I work on it so...I can't really say...I'd say people...but I've had maybe 3 people encourage me...and only one of them helped... ryanrulz_11 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 I think that my inspiration of making a game is to get good practice at IT and just having fun and hanging out with friends while we work on it!
Dark Dragon 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 Well I'm just starting with RMXP, but I'm willing to study Computer Science. plus I like making RPGs I dunno why I just like 'em
Marked 197 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 Thanks for sharing Grandor, I found that quite interesting. I've never really planned any of my games, not in RPG Maker XP. But it seems like friends are a big inspiration here. I have would say that is the same for me, but only friends on forums, not friends that are around me. Like I said i dont have much inspiration for a game right now. But I had always wanted to make a movie, thats why I learned to animate. So I can properly create what I want to, like emotions etc. I just dont see how you can do that in RPG Maker XP. Emotion cannot properly by portrayed, so i cannot create what i want to. Its hard to explain, sorry if I sound confusing. No one yet has asked who the member that came back was. I thought you'd be atleast curious. It must be obvious. Come on Shadow, there must be something that inspires you, are you going to tell us? I want paragraphs here.
Dark Dragon 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 Alright I started RMXP when I was like 11 years old. and I just wanted to make an ordinary RPG that's all stealing scripts, manipulating them, and I was an eventing master but then I've seen what RGSS can do, and started learning it and when I got enough info to study other scripts I stoped, and UNINSTALLED RMXP with my own hands why ? sorry classified...anyway after more than half a year(I think it was half year, not sure) of forgetting every thing I learned, I decided to go back, one of the main reasons is to train myself in programing before entering the university but one of the strongest reasons is that because I LOVE MAKING 'EM
Marked 197 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 Well you have awhile to go until you're at university. So that means 4 years right? wow, i only discovered RPG Maker XP 1 year ago. I dont want to offend you, but remember its about what inspires you. Although that was still a good story. I think i lead you in the wrong direction there with my post. EmilyAnnCoons 7 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 wow...how long has RPG Maker XP been out? I know I started working with it about 2 years ago...I didn't think it was much older then that...

Demondaze 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 What inspires me? Like, what, truthfully? 100%, no bull, What inspires me: Everybody else. Seriously. If it weren't for you guys, and the guys everywhere who either read my stuff or give me the ideas for it, I'd be a pretty poor writer. I mean, I'm not much when it comes to actually making a game, but if you need ideas, there's no one better to turn to. For real, when I'm on form, it's like the action of the Oscillating Ocelot, or the Reciprocating Weasel. I don't know what it means, but the words fit together nice. And that's what counts, home-fry. EmilyAnnCoons 7 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 Well, I have discovered that, what inspires me with scripting is when people ACTUALLY reply to the scripts I post and say they are good (or bad, but they tell me how to make them better).

Leon 55 Report post Posted January 28, 2007 Mine comes from getting the first RPG Maker about.... 6 years ago for the PSX. From there, I learned and kept working toward a working game. Now that I can script and get what I want, I plan on finishing a game. Right now, i have three people inspirin' me to finish, My gal, and my two buddies Arkbennet and Wyz. I think Wyz joined this site, but went dormant... i dont know...
Marked 197 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 Yeah, like some people we know (No Flaming) BTW, I might as well ask Marked what he thought that we'd all ask. WHO WAS THE OTHER MEMBER? Guess. When I think about it, there is only one thing that inspires me to do with this, and thats in my first post. Thats not really a good thing. But thats only with this topic. For other things, its wanting to try my best. If there is someone better, I try my hardest to beat them. That sounds so stupid. But thats completly unrelated to forums and RPG Maker XP. Would you all agree that to make a succesful game, you need the ability to work without inspiration?
EmilyAnnCoons 7 Report post Posted January 29, 2007 I would...waiting for inspiration is like a trainwreck waiting to happen kinda thing...if you wait for inspiration, you'll never write or make much...I don't really "get inspired" when I go to write...I just open word and the ideas flow out...if I don't open Word, though, I'm never inspired... I disagree. I think that it is not possible to be never inspired, unless there is something mentally wrong with you. You may not notice, or it may not be much, but in some way or form, you do get inspiration. In my opinion, i dont see how its possible not to.
ryanrulz_11 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2007 Well...anything is possible whether you think it is or not. EDIT: about how you said "guess" well...here it is. Blazinks was Bubbleboy - i think The other person: SCMike? Constance?
Blazinks 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2007 Oh... my... goodness... More peope. This is so weird. We never had more then 4 different people on one board, and only 3 where active. XD Well, I'm the Blazinks he speaketh of. Yes, my named is Bubbleboy now due to a horrific change I've experienced with Fire and Water. I like Blazinks. Bubbles are better. -_- So... hey. Hi. Just so you'd know, I'm not stayin for long due to the fact my internet access if very shallow for a while. I might be given access, but... yeah. What inspires me... I have no idea. Perhaps it's my characters. I have over 50 characters that I can think of at the moment. ((I will send you a list if you're desperate enough)) See, during this time with no internet, I decided to go a little wacko. Now, since I give each of my characters a different personality, I can pretty much chat with my own characters, and ask them how they would act in certain positions. I know it's weird, but see, with me, I have a broad imagination. Marked I'm sure would remember the various things I came up over the years. Ook... well, now, since my dad accidently formatted my computer without me backing up, i lost every single story, character, detail, EVERYTHING. Sad. I know. So i started fresh with my new works of art. Now I don't have a game maker, so when I have full access to internet, Marked I'm sure will give me all the 1700 sprites he had given me once. :P I'm working on the following projects, ((more info will be added eventually)) Elf- A story about a banished female elf whoes life is hanging on the threads of magic. Astoria- Twin pop stars Chelsie and Chloe disappear into another world where song and music is never heard of. While the twins teach people to sing and play songs, the Rebellion rises over the mountains and opens full war on the unaware people of Astoria. Survive- Ach.. ok, it's a dodgey story like Gladiator, but it's children. Legacies of the Thousands- A story that has every character I've ever created all in one school-time-for-the-talented format. So ya. My inspiration = My Characters. :D
Marked 197 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I've too busy to welcome you back to the forums. I knew you would come back! Ratty524 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 Never thought of that question before. For me I'd say it's the fact that I love to play games and I love to create. I have constant stories and stuff running through my head, and I feel that the best way to make them exist is through something that is playable.

arsieiuni 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2007 My game has been inspired by a roleplaying game I play with my husband. It's a story we started out of the blue one day just to play between us in order to throw around a character concept I'd had for a succubus. As the story went on, I had developed the character and found a spot where I wanted to throw in an npc character, a youngling succubus who was interested in learning something from the succubus I'd originally created because she was an older and more powerful succubus. This second succubus was called Briar... At first, I couldn't get into her character all that well and I didn't really have any "feeling" for playing her so I avoided throwing her into the story very often... but as things progressed, I found some interesting places to insert her... Eventually, I suddenly found that I had a feel for her now and she was now one of "my" characters ... not just an NPC. I have since found a solid place for her in the original game and as it turns out, she even became more the main character of the game than the first succubus... It's a strange but deeply intriguing story. Anyway, she's an odd one... very young for a succubus and very cute... I had a concept come to me one day ... what if Briar fell in love with Rohan (he's the guy that summoned the original succubus in the first place... Briar ended up living with them.)... Well to my understanding this would get her killed by Lilith (her mother of course)... But Rohan insists... believes... that anyone could fall in love... even an evil creature like a succubus... and that god might even forgive her if she really tried... Ah but I'm getting into the story more than the inspiration... heh... It is to say that my game is inspired by the roleplayed version of it in real life... So it's also partly inspired by my husband, and my own character, Briar. Other than that... it's just inspired by a random idea about what would happen "if..."
