Polraudio 122 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 I been thinking about how i started my game. I want to know how do you start yours? I start mine by coming up with the title and a first map and some random start of a story. The story in my game is all random but it sticks to one general idea. I have to think on what i want to happen next after every scene. I don't have the time to plan it all out so random is the way to go for me. And i think i have ADD that's why it has to be random or else it never gets done.
Nisage 31 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 Mine are a bit planned out. I start with a cutscene before you start playing. Maybe it'll have the final boss in it, maybe it'll explain the world you're in, it's different with each game. What's ADD?

There's also ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder which is usually much worse.
Nisage 31 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Uhh............ I never understood any of that, it's all alphabet soup to me :P
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Nisage, ADD is where you do things before thinking about them (Impulsiveness), ignoring people or not completing tasks due to intentional daydreaming(Inattention), and being unable to sit still, or restless.(Hyperactivity) I started making my game RIGHT OUT OF THE RED....err, BLUE! It is always random when I come up with ideas, except with contests and things, I start them planned.
Leon 55 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 I spend around a month to a month and a half just planning everything, testing how the systems flow together, and so forth. A monotanous task, but works.
Nisage 31 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 @ Kiriashi: Oh, I think I get it. @Leon: I know the feeling. Sometimes I try to think of a good storyline, But if I can't find anything for the Game Story, I have to edit it a bit (like for one where I wanted it to have an Action Battle System, but never got it to work. So I'm using the ZTBS). Whenever I find a new script that could be good for a game, I have to test it. See if it doesn''t have any problem with the other scripts, if it does, is there a way to fix it or use it for another game. But it's all worth it in the end once it's finally finished, am I right? Edit: It would be funny that once you finished it, you played it, and lost the first battle. You can't even beat your own game :P
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Edit: It would be funny that once you finished it, you played it, and lost the first battle. You can't even beat your own game :P Thats why my method is bad sometimes. It took me forever to get the first battle just right. I got killed to many times trying or i killed the enemy way to easily. Edit: 21 downloads for my game demo.
Nisage 31 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 I just copy the Ghost in the enemies tab, paste into a new enemy section, and modify it from there to whatever monster I want, like the Bat monster. It'll have the same stats as the Ghost (maybe weaker, maybe stronger) but since the Ghost is the weakest, use him (or his stats) for the first few battles. Joey 9 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Hard to say for my current game, Nightmare though (the first RPG I've made on 2K, haven't actually finished it wither as usual) is nothing but randomness. XD The one I'm trying to start on now...I dunno, I didn't really plan much at the beginning...I wasn't really putting things in at random either...
Blackbound 4 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 Idea->story->manual->Development->bug fixes->release->more bug fixes Thats how I make my game (its pretty stable too)
Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted March 30, 2009 ADD sounds like it is one with the natural personality, rather than a unnatural disorder. I still have problems finding the best approach in the introductory phase of a game. Nevertheless, having it planned is usually way more effective.
Unka Josh 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Nisage, ADD is where you do things before thinking about them (Impulsiveness), ignoring people or not completing tasks due to intentional daydreaming(Inattention), and being unable to sit still, or restless.(Hyperactivity) You left out Hyperfocussing, where you lock on to an idea with laser-like intensity, unwilling to focus on anything else. Until you lose interest. Us ADD types wind up with a lot of half-finished projects. When I start a new project, I think of the plot first-- often, the beginning and the end, with gleams of bits in the middle. The hard part is filling up that middle, and keeping good pacing. Unka Josh 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Thats how i started but it didn't work out to well for me. *sigh* You and me both, friend. You and me both. Had this program for a few years now, and I've finished one short-and-not-as-good-as-it-could-be project. I'm faintly hopeful about my current one, though. bobzombie 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I haven't really gotten much work done in RPG maker, but I have hundreds of concepts and ideas in my head. I'm sort of randomly planned.... if that makes sense at all  . When I see a good concept from another game, or show, or movie my brain kind of takes it a part, adds characters, and then adds it to other bits floating around in my head. Result hundreds of pretty cool half-formed concepts that I never have the time or patience to develop something out of.... So yeah.
nazerite 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2009 I came here with a planned story solid from beginning to end. I had wanted to do it on zeldaclassic (you guys know what that is?) but i really felt G.I.joe was a team deal so this would work better.
