pidey 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Hello, I am making the game Fall From Grace, which is meant to be an epic tale, and a fairly small RPG, though a very dense RPG. Fall From Grace is a story about sadness, futility, and compromise. That might not seem like a good base for an RPG, but I think it can work. I also wanted several things to be written into the story, one of which is that there is no main antagonist. There is no bad guy trying to destroy the world. There is no evil emperor trying to perform genocide. Just a screwed up world. In the planescape known as Greater Eden, there are seven planes. True eden which lies at the center, then there are north, south, west and east of eden, each of which are slightly corresponding to an element. North is water, South is fire, west is earth, east is wind. There are also the planes of heaven and hell, which are above and below eden. Each plane is tied with strings of pure mana to eden. Without these strings the plane will detach itself and float off into the outer planes, which will instantly kill any humans. Travel between planes is near impossible. Definitely not within the realm of humans and elves. Connections to other planes is represented by the moons in the sky. The story is set on west of eden, a somewhat earth alligned plane. (also, note, devil means damned soul, a demon is a custodian of hell, they make sure devils don't escape, and torture the devils.) Elves age at a quarter the speed of a human, and stop aging at the human equivalent of 50 years old. Elves do not die of old age, but they are not immortal. Average elf age at death is 1000. Timeline: Year 0: the red moon, which is the gate to hell exploded. Not only did shards of the moon fall to the ground killing millions, but without the moon, damned souls have nowhere to go, meaning damned souls were returning to west of eden as devils. The devils started attacking humanity, and devastating the countryside. Humans were forced into walled cities to keep themselves safe. Food was scarce, pestilence spread, life was bad. Soon, demons noticed the lack of incoming souls from west of eden, and decided to send some scouts to west of eden. Year 35: Demons completed their planeshifter, and traveled to west of eden. They quickly noticed the lack of the moon, and are now stuck. They have no way of communicating with hell or returning. The demons decide to do the most logical thing possible, and build great towers to house the devils, and act as mini-hells. Year 50: The demon towers are finished, and most devils are imprisoned within them. Humans begin to rebuild. The protagonist, Ashram is born. He is of half-demon blood, and his birth was attempted to be sealed away, but the ritual failed, and the church the ritual was performed in is destroyed. Ashram raised himself in the wild. Year 65: It becomes apparent that the mana string is weakening. Top mages believe this to be due to the presence of demons, and order a holy crusade against the demons. Grathe (an elf) is hunting in the woods when he discovers Ashram. Grathe teaches Ashram the ways of man, such as how to talk, and basic concepts like ownership and money. Alcheed is born. Year 68: All elves are drafted into the millitary. Ashram was also drafted, as he was marked as the "son of an elf." His true heritage isn't known at this point. Ashram and Grathe are placed in the magi-technology branch of the millitary. Magitechnology is super-powerful, but it drains the soul of the user. A human's is drained in a matter of seconds. For elves it takes about a week of sustained contact. Year 70: Various demon towers were attacked, and the demons killed. None of these towers were located on mountains, because they couldn't bring in magi-tech since elves can't handle mountain air. However, the demons would return in 100 years. Year 71: The siege on Senthan's tower. Senthan is the biggest demon lord. Grathe dies during this siege. Ashram strikes the final blow, after his magi-tech armor is destroyed. Ashram went missing after the battle and is believed to be KIA. In reality, he went into hiding, slowly loosing his sanity. Year 73: A tomb honoring Ashram and his squad of magi-tech users was built on the mountain of Noritea. Year 82: The high mage council discovers a way to prevent the demons from returning in 100 years. However, it is a very extreme measure. If the location the demons died is atleast a mile underwater, they will not return. It is decided that flooding the plane is the only option. Year 83: Ashram visited the tomb where he is supposedly buried. He survives in the wild, much like he did as a child. All visitors to the shrine are brutally murdered. Ashram's sanity is slowly breaking down, with hatred for demons erupting within him. Year 85: The plane is flooded, leaving only the tops of a few mountains visible. The vast influx of water on this plane causes the plane to shift closer to north of eden. True Eden is now no longer protected from the earth energy from the outer planes, and is receiving massive earthquakes. True Eden is also suffering a drought, because it cannot recieve any water energy from the outer planes, since there are TWO planes in the way . True Eden is pretty much fucked at this point. (from here, I only have the history of one island written, things ARE happening elsewhere, but they are mostly independent.) Only one city was on Noritea before the flood, this city is Arcor, which was split into two when the flood happened. Year 90: A mass genocide happened on the island of Noritea, Many people believed that the elves are to blame for the world flooding, because if it wasn't for them using magi-tech, the world would not have been flooded. The elves respond relatively un-emotionally and coldly because some of their soul has been ripped out. Alfwerd also places up a spell known as Elven Proscription on the island, which creates a wall around the island that no elves can cross. Most elves have been killed, with only two surviving, Ashmir the druid, and Ethelred, the warrior. Year 102: Mana reserves are running very low on the island. Alfwerd the wizard comes up with a genius idea to have the poisonous manasalt be mined from the mountain. He creates an everflowing source of water on top of the mountain tip, and carved a channel through the mountain, which eventually ran out to the ocean. Near the delta to the ocean, an extraction facility is built. The town of Espala was built around the extraction facility. Year 104: Ashmir uses a large quantity of manasalt to help make some of the land fertile for farming. He is successful, and the land is very bountiful. Even though Ashmir saved everyone with the farmland, he is still hunted for, thus he made the forest, Ashmir's Last Stand, which he placed the spell Proscribe Humans over every part but a single path running through the forest. Ethelred makes his way to this forest and survives with Ashmir. Year 110: The flying castle of Granalur can no longer stay afloat. The pilot attempts to land it on Noritea, something the castle was never meant to do. 70% of the castle's inhabitants were killed upon crash landing. The only elf that survived was the king's wise man, Alcheed. Alcheed was able to enter the island because the castle was above the proscription wall when it was crashing. Alcheed cuts his ears off, and moves to Arcor, Living as a beggar. Alcheed goes somewhat crazy during his time as a beggar. Year 150: The town of Baldmont is founded (it's the unnamed city on the map). Year 200: Ashram stumbles upon Ashmir when hunting one day. He becomes inspired by Ashmir, and starts living with humans again. By this time, noone knows what Ashram looks like, so he isn't recognized by anyone. Also, the knowledge that Demons and Devils are separate entities has been lost. Year 310: Darius (a human) has a child with a priestess. A special spell was used, and the child is of half-angel blood, alice is not told of her angel blood. Year 316: Darius gets into heavy gambling debt, and hands Alice over to the church, who takes her under their wing. Alcheed becomes Mayor of Arcor. Year 324: January 24th: Alice is kidnapped by unknown assailants. The church cannot ask for assistance, as Alice was not a legal citizen. Year 324: January 27th:----Game starts here---- On the island of Noritea, Ashram works as a freelance blade for hire. He is hired by Alcheed to kill the king of South Arcor, Ashram accepted the mission, and traveled to South Arcor with his partner, Darius. Darius is not Ashram's usual partner, but Alcheed insisted that he go along. Along the path, Darius insists that they rescue a Alice, who is imprisoned, Darius does not reveal why. Ashram doesn't really want to, but does so anyway. During the mission, Darius dies when trying to clear a path for Ashram and Alice. After returning to north Arcor, Ashram figures out that Darius is Alice's father, and returns her to the church, mostly because that is where Alcheed agreed to give him his payment. When Ashram returns, and sees Alice with him, Alcheed offers ashram an alternate payment, knowledge of how to lure demons to him. Ashram curiously accepts his offer, given that he wants nothing more than to kill every last demon. Here Alcheed, Ashram, Alice, the head priest of the church, and the priest's apprentice, Vrell meet. Alcheed tells the group that Alice is a half-angel, and further, Demons require a half-angels blood for a mysterious ritual, and will stop at nothing to get this. Ashram knows what the ritual is, and it is to rebuild the gate to Hell. Ashram immediately understands, and agrees to guard Alice, (when in reality, he is just intending to use her as bait). Vrell is also assigned to guard her. January 28th: Ashram's usual partner in crime, Burns finds Ashram hiding, and also helps guard Alice. January 30th: After several waves of lesser demon soldiers, Ashram and Vrell have exhausted most of their resources, and flee using teleporation to the most well protected city on the island, Granalur. Febuary 2nd: Alice decides that the only way she can truely protect everyone is by killing herself. Thus she commits suicide in the middle of the night. Ashram is very cold about this, and tries coming up with a plan, now that his chance of luring demons out has gone awry. Burns has no idea what the fuck is going on. Ashram decides that now would be the best time to strike at the demon's tower, given that he has the church on his side, as well as Arcor. However, to break the seal on a demon's tower, he needs some immensely powerful magic, and he can only think of one way to get this magic, and that is digging up Grathe's armor from the grave. However, despite Ashram's stoic nature, he is clearly shaken by this idea. February 4th: Ashram reaches the crypt by foot, and diggs up the armor. He finds out that remnants of Grathe's soul are still in the armor. February 6th: Ashram reaches the demon's tower, and starts his assault. After reaching the top floor, he meets Bardel, the demon, and his grandfather. When they get to the top, Bardel starts talking to the party, and he tells Vrell that demons and devils are separate beings. He also tells Vrell why the demons are here. He also revealed what the ritual they needed the blood for was. Rebuilding the gate to hell, so this whole mess can be over with, he also reveals that Ashram knew about this whole mess. Vrell is understandably pissed. Bardel also tells the party something none of them knew. When a demon truely dies, (not just destroyed for 100 years), a corresponding angel also dies. The opposite is also true. Bardel then tells the party that demons are capable of obliterating angels, and angels are capable of obliterating demons. Bardel then hands Ashram a weapon capable of obliterating demons, and also hands Ashram a device capable of locating demons. Ashram and Bardel then fight each other, and depending on who wins, the game will travel down a different path. If Ashram wins, the rest of the game will revolve around sailing the world ocean and killing demons. If Bardel wins, he has a bit of a harder path, he has to figure out which angels correspond to demons, and then travel to heaven, and kill the corresponding angels.
