Syaoran Results

I like the fog and also the purple dog (gives the viewer the idea it has been poisoned). Everything seems to be placed well except for the swamp-water autotile. Since it has been placed everywhere, it appears as if the entire place is atop of a giant puddle. It also makes it look slightly unrealistic. The board, also, to the bottom-right of the map doesn't appear to be connected to anything.

Nisage Results

I like yours alot because it makes the viewer feel he/she is looking at something from a true videogame - Deads, Monsters, the Hero and the mysteries (battle?) up the top-left screen. I also like how all the monsters blend in to the purple tint you gave the map. Unlike Syaorans, I can't really find anything wrong with you map except for I think there is too much clutter in the open swamp-water. Too many trees, especially.

Kiriashi Results

Kiriashi has done it again and has made another amazing and beautiful map. Everything just flows with itself and creates an amazing work of art. I especially like the use of animals; the crow flying above the dead soldier and the frog jumping onto a lillypad. If anybody else can notice, there is a slight tint in the map that makes it appear more like a swamp and not too much like a forest with purple water. There only seems to be one problem; a single tile underneath the crow that is square and doesn't much blend in.

About the tile under the crow, that is a tileset problem, It doesn't blend with the grass, so you have to use an autotile to fix it, but I had no layer space, so my only option was to fix it with events, right? Wrong, couldn't because the crow was there. :(

 

 

I guess I will add a few pointers about swamp making since I won.

 

 

1. Make sure you don't use this murky water autotile for swamps,

it is too shallow and looks more like a bog type of thing.

 

Use these tiles instead:

 

2. When using these swamp tiles make sure you

put variation in the edges with these tiles:

 

 

Here is a section of the water without variation:

 

And here it is with variation:

 

3. Make sure you use up your layers, and spread detail every where. Try putting the leaves under trees and the leave auto-tile next to em'.

 

4. Don't overdo the Screen Tone. A good swamp screen tone is

Red: -17

Green: -17

Blue: -34

Grey: about 5 or 10

5. Make sure you don't have any empty spaces or anything that sticks out, and don't make your swamp friendly!
