Im going to post (spontanously) what comes out of my head for an idea for a horror fps that I've had for the longest time now. I cant remember all the details but I changed some too.

 

Main Character:

Name: Zoey

Gender: Female

 

Story:

The story (or game) will begin with

"The 20th century.....A timeless age where leaps and bounds in technology were not uncommon, but from the ashes of failed experiments will come a dark harbinger. Mankind's thirst for knowledge will be his undoing." - Some ingame character you'll meet

 

Now by zombies, I dont mean the living dead. Here is my theory for the game after having done research.

 

Seeing as how nearly 50% of the entire human population are infected with the common brain parasite Toxoplasmosis gondii and it doesnt affect them (Although the same cant be said about rats, who have the same brain structure as humans) , and how I feel cancer is the beginning of an evolutionary change in humans (isnt cancer just uncontrollable cell growth?).

 

The game will start with a few cancer patients receiving a new treatment for their cancer but it radically affects each one in different ways due to each person having totally different immune systems as well as the parasite and cancer which turns the patients into the original Infected and they become the Infected Primogen and begin to spread their infected amongst the populace, unknowingly at first but then on purpose.

 

The story consists of the player attempting to escape from the barricaded city alive (preferably) but as I am a fan of open ended, nonlinear games there are also more options as:

 

  1. Going after and killing the Infected Primogen
  2. Rescuing other civilians trapped and in need of help
  3. Attempting to find a cure for the virus/parasite
  4. Being an Infected and hunting down humans
  5. Becoming an Infected Primogen and starting your own stain of Infected
  6. and a few others but I dont want to give away too much

 

After the first introduction for the controls, Im hoping to just turn the player loose and let them explore the ruined city full of Infected and survive. Im all for giving the player full control to do what they want (experience from being a gamer) but i'll also have a few objectives for the player just incase they dont know what to do or are trying to do everything.

 

Based on their infection levels during the first half of the game determines whether or not the player will stay a survivor or become infected. Once inected, the player loses all ability to wield weapons but gain the ability to manipulate their DNA inorder to gain different skills and attributes. These "powers" can only be unlocked by combining replicator nodes (which can be found or obtained by completing certain activities) with each other in a minigame.

 

Now because I agree with the whole "Aliens that are able to master light speed travel cant be beaten by human bullets" argument *glares at Halo* the Infected Primogen cant be killed by traditional means, and by that I mean they cant be gunned down. Which should prove for some interesting methods and strategy to take down each one.

 

Types of Infected: (That I have so far) *Subject to change*

Spitters - Infected that have mutated to the point where their saliva has become acidic. A person who comes in contact with a Spitter's saliva is thought to be infected.

Normal - Normally move slowly, they lunge and attack rather quickly when food is around. Usually stay in large groups.

Stalkers - Infected that stay interested in a prey and tend to watch it from afar. Very tactical in cornering its target but likes to work alone. *Only Infected that uses a gun-esque type means of attack*

Berserkers - Look like normal Infected until it becomes aware of food nearby which is when it grows in size rather rapidly and charges like a bull. Very agile and very strong.

 

Multiplayer:

I do want to have different multiplayer modes but this is more optional right now

Whether you play as human or infected i want the players to be able to import their character from their single player campaign to play.

 

So if your human, you will be able to import your gun upgrades and and if your infected you will be able to import your hybrid infected class.

 

Opinions so far?

There are alot of information that I haven't put up but just ask.

So far here are the classes (term used VERY loosely) for multiplayer and their alternate.

 

Infected --> Human

 

Normal --> Normal

Spitter --> Pyro

Stalker --> Sharpshooter

Berserker --> Soldier

Queen --> Medic

--> Builder

 

Im debating on whether or not to use a Gears of War type death/ revive system. For those of you who dont know, in GoW if you are gunned down you have a certain amount of time afterwards where you "bleed out" and if a friend comes and helps you back up then you are successfully revived. I think this can happen indefinately as long as you arent reduced to a pool of blood and giblets.

 

In my game whoever....if I do implement this system then each player get one revive and then after that they will need a medic to revive them or they'll successfully die.

 

 

 

While the class system only truely applies to Infected players, it gives perks for humans and doesn't limit which weapon they can wield. (thats what weapon weight is there for :D)

 

Normal - Increases movements speed and also increases carrying weight

Pyro - Resistant to fire as well as to both Gorgon and Charmer skills. Increases all fire based weaponry

Sharpshooter - Increases damage for sniper weapons and gives a boost of accuracy for headshot help.

Soldier - Increases melee weaponry damage, damage resistance and is able to examine health of visable enemies.

Medic - Increases healing, is able to revive more than one downed player.

Builder - Able to use a welder to weld open and shut doors. Also can build sentries and minigun turrets.

I've wanted to make a zombie FPS for 4 years now, also. Mine was called "Final Strike". Maybe we could merge our ideas and make a good game :D . And I can also make things on FPS Creator with no lag.

 

If you wanna know more, just PM me. Also, I like the idea about the Beserkers but the whole "it grows in size rather rapidly" thing. Why don't they just stay massive, sorta like tanks from Left 4 Dead.

Well i was thinking about that and wanted to be different from L4D but also because normally they look like the normal infected. So lets say in a multiplayer match, your human and you see the last zombie run around a corner. Everyone is most likey to chase after it since it looks normal and shouldnt be a threat, but you run the corner and get thrashed by a huge berserker...or rather one of your friends do that and you turn to see their limp ragdoll body then the next thing you know a giant mass is charging towards you fast thatn you can run.

While there are some similiarities, I really just want the differences to stand out.

 

Also, new Infected Idea:

Charmer - Infected that is capable to unleash a deafening moan. Moan will set off any grenades, mines or rockets in a remote area. If a player is in that area, their screen will blur making weapon accuracy drop drastically.

 

Gorgon - Its piercing gaze is known to stop people in their tracks. If eye contact is made for more than 2 seconds the player will effectively drop to the floor paralyzed for a set amount of time or until the gorgon is dealt with.

Looking for weapon ideas

I know that I wish to have some melee weapons, some greandes (possibly mines) and also guns but i need ideas. I dont need too many guns because the guns I choose are upgradable and customizable.

Very interesting weapons and new infected types. The guns are nearly exactly like Left 4 Dead, but as long as there is an assault rifle; I'm still happy :D .

Yea, i was trying to vary them but to no avail, every zombie game has almost all of those. I guess ill just have to stand apart with how I make them look, how they function and how they sound. I also looked at the L4D wiki and was disappointed in the similar words used, (Infected mad me the most mad) and here I thought I was being original with names lmao

I had an idea. You know how in Halo 2 if you get to certain nearly-impossible-to-get-to areas you can get the scarab gun? Why not make it if you get to a secret area you get a lawn mower and you just mow em all down :D .

Quick question, which would make for a more emotional experience? (from Zoey's POV)

 

A) Your brother, whom has helped you several times along the way, is turned into a zombie as you watch from inside a safe room. Afterwards he relentlessly hunts you and your crew of survivors down, killing and turning anyone he can get his hands on.

 

B) You watch your boyfriend get ripped to shreds in an attempt to save your live and later in the game he becomes your enemy but still helps you from time to time. (example. You still fight him but does knock over buildings or w/e to help you cross a gap that would otherwise have been impassable)

Haha im glad I got beta testers lol now all i need is a dedicated mod team. My plan is to finish this before the end of this school year (my senior year) for college so thats when I'll recruit you guys.

I had an idea for Zoey. I like the boyfriend thing but instead of an enemy my idea was that he was an infected but still helped you without attacking you. But he can't speak or anything, he just makes growling-like noises. Sorta like the Hulk in the movie when they escape to that cave-like place.

*Status Update*

Turns out I wont be using the Source engien due to the engine not having enough destructible qualities so I'm thinking it will be made using the Geo Mod engine used in Red Faction games. While that most definately wont look as pretty as the Source, it will let me do what I want so no content is cut.

 

Also almost complete writing the entire human story arc out.

What can't the Source Engine to destruction wise. I'm pretty sure it can help you, after all, have you played Half Life 2, and both Episodes? There is some massive destruction that occurs.

I have played half life but the destruction in red faction is better. As in you can dig craters out of buildings and such with explosives more so than you can using the source. And I'd need to buy another copy of the orange box if I do (with me being a high school student, funds arent really high right now lol)
