[XP]Autotiles Question....

Question

Sorry if this is in the wrong place...

Alright, I'm very new to XP and I don't really know how to use the Autotiles and without them, its making my maps look even worse... :(

Like the water autotiles.

The best I could do with them is make a very small island in the water > look below for example.

The arrows point to what I tried to do with autotiles in a desert map.

I know you have to double click the autotile to bring up a box of em, but I can't seem to figure out which should go where...*sigh* sorry if this doesn't make sense lol

Can anyone explain to me, if they can, how to use autotiles? I freakin suck at it as you can see from above.

Thank you and cheers!

NOTE:

I'm gonna go work on a map for a friend real quick. So don't think I'm not on! :}

Luvs you all! ;)

Very good autotile to use.

Thanks for that, Polraudio. I didn't have that...

How do you go about using them? I know you have to click them, but I can't tell where to put them >,<

First you have to import them to your autotiles folder then after that go to the database then tilesets, select the tileset you want it to go on then select the autotiles graphics.

Once you insert it keep it as an X or change it to an X

Alright....did that.

Kay, now how do I do I know where to piece them together?

When I click the autotiles, a box comes up and has many different tiles I should pick from, but how do I know which goes where?

I'll post a picture of what I mean.....

Oh, you don't have to piece them. Just click once and make sure the square is around it, then start mapping with it. It's an "auto"tile. It works automatically. ^^

Hm, maybe I should post a image....

Exactly how do I begin learning where to piece them together at? To make a circle lake, lets say, which pieces would you use? I've spent a day looking at this and its begun to make my head hurt >.<

Oh I know. But you don't really need to touch that AT ALL. Just click ok, and start mapping. That window has no use anyways. =D

I beg to differ, i use that window a LOT. Especially with undulation. With it, you don't have to worry about the autotile going funky on you.

Than...how can I properly use it? Do I have to figure it out like a puzzle? Because its taking me forever to build a circle pond >.>

The autotile works by taking the initial image, and using it in a form of cropping it. so, if the original image has square edges, then your pond will be square.

Okay....what pieces would I use to make something round?

I've tried a few and it came out all wrong

You have to alter the initial image, the autotile image.

Hm...okay. I'll try it out.

If my problem still happens, may I post a image of my lake to show an example?
