Everybody who uses RMXP knows that there is a severe lack in the amount of avaliable RMXP characters compared to RM2K3

Generators like the one on Charas project.net

This is my idea, How about RMXP Unlimited have its own generator for RMXP Characters

I know there are already rmxp generators like charactermaker xp and the one on backwaterproduction. However, they lack two important thing and that is resources and people.

Heres the reasons why I think this would be the most suitable place to have a RMXP Generators

  • alot of site trafic from RMXP developers
  • we have alot more resources
  • more manpower: everyone in the forum can help with this one

Jobs

  • Coders:People who know html or php or flash who will be able to develop the back bone of this generator, it would be similar to the Gaia generator on tektek.org
  • Donators:Can be anyone, all they have to do is donate sprites that they have found or created
  • Rippers/Spriters:People who take donated sprites and break them into parts: Clothes, Hair, Eyes, Etc. Recommended: They have photo editing software and know how to use it. They also save the the resources of the donators into png format with a transparent background.

How it would work:

Since RMXP charasets are divided into 16 parts in RMXP, then the generator would have to do the same thing. Also for this to work the generator would have to be able to layer images on top. Extra features that could be added later would change the transparency and hue of each layer. The generator would focus on rtp like sprites at the beginning because these are the most commonly used. Once we get that off the ground then the option for other types such as hk or Breeze will be available

The user starts off with a base body, we need nude templates for this,(Human body Male and female with three ages: Child, Adult, Elderly and maybe 1-3 different skin shades. The eyes won't be in the body template. This would be the lowest layer. Note poses can't be accepted because they are unique to the character design and overlap wouldn't work correctly.

The next option is eyes. All we have to do is supply different color eyes. Preferably the same size they eyes will have to be at different heights for each template. and it should only show the corresponding sets for each body type. You cant put child eyes on the adult body, because it will not be on the face area. For the child and Elderly body type we can rip the eyes of rtp sets and recolor them. This would be the second layer

The Hair would be the next option. Before we have a hue option for this layer, or different colors of the same hair, we should have the hair ripped from sprites. For the child and Elderly body type we can rip the hair of rtp sets. Same as the eyes, your options will be different depending on the body type. This would be the 4th layer. Make sure the area where the head should be is empty or the hair will cover the head, unless that is the desired effect.

The next option would be clothes. At the beginning the clothes option will contain shoes and gloves and the body. Later the shoes and gloves can be seperate from the body and you can even mix and match tops and bottoms of clothes or have a two layers for clothes so you can wear one on top of the other. Same as the eyes, your options will be different depending on the body type. This would be the 3rd layer so that the hair will be above it, hence someone with long hair will have hair over their shoulders. this layer can be switched with the 4th layer so that the hair is below the clothes, but this will be third layer by default.

The last option will be the item/accesory option.

This can include hats, weapon, shields, special effects(like a super saiyan aura), other addons

This would have multple layers and be the top most layer by default. Effects like aura can simply made by adding the transparancy option or changing the order of the layers

Processing: Basically it works like this

It takes the image size of the largest layer, normally all pictures should be around the same size Edit:128 by 192 is the default rtp charaset size. So all that needs to be done is to merge the layers into one image and display it as a png. From there the user can copy the displayed image or choose the save option to save it to there computer. If nessecary there is the expand option which will be added later. say you have an effect like an aura. Thats very large. It divide each image on each layer into 16 parts and then center each part to the largest part of the whole image.

also there would be a donate option which allows users to donate their own sprites.

I myself cant code so I need someone to help develop it and then we can put the web app on this site.

I've created a repository to store all the image files in one place seperate from rmxp for temporary use.

Simply use this account to upload the files

PLEASE do not DELETE Any file, nor UPLOAD YOUR OWN PERSONAl files which will be deleted

Once the program is up uploading the sprite parts won't be a problem, I think we should pool our resources as its developed making it ready to use out of the box

I can code a bit of HTML and I can edit sprites. I can't make my own sprites just yet. I'll be busy at times, but I'll see what I can do. I never coded anything besides a website.

.:EDIT:. Link's bad. It just sends me to my files. it's in the link. "http://www.mediafire.com/myfiles.php"

Rgansta you don't need to know how to sprite, all we need is sprites

If you can photoedit/photomanipulate thats good.

All thats necessary to break the sprites into its parts

say we want the armor of fighter 1 using photo shop or any other good photo editing software just erase everything but his armor with a transparent background

That I can do :P

.:EDIT:. The download link has to be something like this. Go to the file's share page and copy the link.

There are a few sprite generators out there already.. Having all custom sprited parts for the characterset generator is perhaps a little unrealistic, but as many custom parts as possible would obviously make this more attractive to potential users.

Also on that note, it may be best to rip only rtp parts and then include our own custom. I'm just saying, there are way too many uncredited resources out there and ripping anyones work and including them in the program would contribute to that. But that's just something to consider, I'm sure no one will call you out for it.

I have a few questions. Will this be RMXP style or RMVX style charactersets? Secondly, is it supposed to be online, or offline software?(I assume visual basic is offline). From you post I got RMXP and online? Just checking

Since you posted this in our Feedback section, is this an RMXP Unlimited thing? If so, PM me if you'd like to arrange a page for it on the website.

I'd like to contribute or help out too. Here's a characterset I made you can use for hair(will needed to altered to suit rtp though)

The original Idea is for this thing to be online, an offline version of the program can be made so you would download the intial program and that program would download the pieces of the sprite needed for the generator.

Furthermore, we can easily just credit the makers of the sprite we use on the page of the generator, most spriters don't require permission but if we have to ask then we will. Also if they have a site, Such as Sithjesters we can affilate with them. With the traffic from the generator, they would most likely want to affilate with us so they can get more attention.

Also This generator will only support RMXP sprites at first, then expand to RMVX sprites mainly because RMVX resources aren't as large as RMXP.

If possible i think we should start with the rtp sprites for resources, hence mixing and matching

Fighter 2 with clothes of fighter 1 or something like that.

@Marked: Visual basic is designed to be very flexible. Scrive is developed using VB.net which as you all know goes out to an online database.

@Enigma: My point is, will this be a good idea? To do what you're wanting to do, The programmers (aka me for now) would literally have to tell the program where exactly to draw everything. I don't know about you, but I just want one function, not ten to figure out what's what. I'm not saying this is impossible, I'm just letting you know that the programming requirements can be kind of messy.

Also, you want this thing online..?? That is rather interesting, but I suppose it can be done since we could have a growing database of entries....It's all up to you. Offline would be easier for people who don't have a constant online connection

I was thinking of having an offline and online version, so that the online version would constantly update, but the offline version would update when internet is avaliable

also I was thinking of having this program work similar to photoshop where it each part of the sprite is on a different layer such as hair body eyes and clothes on seperate layers, can you explain what you mean about the first paragraph to me. I'm thinking that it will just pull the images from the database, layer them then merge them to 1 image and save in png format

Double post.

Is this thing still gonna happen..?

The only way this thing gets of the ground is if this gets enough support and attention

if you could make a basic framework for this thing while, I'll try to make an alternative to serve as a concept via flash, then we'll get more support.

Even though the generator is important, the only way to get this thing off the ground is if their are resources

Currently, though I'm working on my own games so I think I'll be able to get a flash demo out by september,

The best time to get V1 of this program out with i'm thinking at least 20-30 of each resource is by MidOctober -early November

Well see, I need base resources to test it out.

all right, give me a list of what you need

is it just the templates?

i know there is a body template in this forum

if u need me to rip anything, I'll get on it as soon as I finish my homework

Nice. I could help out with ripping and deconstructing the already-found sprites into sections.

So yeah, I'll help. Reach me via PM or add me on MSN/Windows Live with joshm_1195@hotmail.com.

Character Generator....old news. Why not try something more challenging and new. Say like a Stance Generator.

Also you need to fix your coding:

Also you can display BBcode by using the Code button:
