Nisage 31 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 I was hit with another virus, so I did the usual scan and delete. But during one of the full scans, I left the computer alone for a bit, when I return, it somehow restarted itself. Now it wont go onto the desktop, it'll start, ask me if I want to run in safe mode and other versions of safe mode, or if I want to run normally. No matter what I choose, it'll restart again. Before it does restart, a weird blue screen appears with words on it, I can't read since it's only up for half a second. Is there a way to save my computer, or is it dead? Hope it's not dead, I have games I've worked on a whole year on, among other important things. I can try to describe the virus if it'll help.
Joey 9 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Sounds like you would have to go ahead and describe the virus...I wouldn't be able to help much though unless I was actually there with you though.
formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 What Joey said. It could be Sasser or Stinger, since they both like to restart you....but we'll see. You always have the ability to save the HDD (unless its physically damaged). You just need another HDD...I do it all the time. But I have like..3 PC's and 5 HDD's lol. The virus wouldn't let me open the program that opens when you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. It made a weird background picture, it was blue with a black box in the middle, and it had red words talking about an infection. It wouldn't let me do a system restore :( Also, in that icon list in the bottom right of the computer screen, there was a red circle which had a white X in it. I though I got rid of it with the virus scanner, but I guess not :( Also, weird question, what happens when you finally enter Safe Mode of the computer, and it resets itself a couple of minutes you are in Safe Mode trying to put any/all things important onto a flashdrive? And, is a System Restore the same as a Reboot, losing everything in a re-something?

I checked his computer out before and it has lots of problems. getting another Hard Drive wont work for him because he don't have a Windows XP install disk. Note: His system restore is broken also. Try it in safe mode. I say the only other option with the way things have been going is to re-install Windows XP. We need to find you a disk.

Try it in safe mode. I say the only other option with the way things have been going is to re-install Windows XP. We need to find you a disk. I can't get into Safe Mode anymore :( When I got in it, I tried to put everything important onto flashdrives, but a stupid window messege kept appearing asking me if I wanted to comtinue with Safe Mode, or something like that, basiclty a Yes/No messege. Thanks to that messege, it stopped the transfer from computer to flashdrive. Then, it restarted itself, in Safe Mode, how does that happen? Oh, almost forgot, System Restore worked before the virus, well.... I could do a System Restore. But what does a System Recovery do exactly? It's button F10 when the computer is loading, what does it do? I might try it if it'll help. Edit: I'm basicly stuck in a loop where the computer takes me to the Windows logo for about 10 seconds, then it restarts.
rgangsta 43 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Try a PC Recovery. I had that once. It's because a file in your computer was deleted probably because the virus copied itself as an important file, patched your computer so it wont automatically replace it, and your virus scanner deleted it and now it can't be replaced. Once you do a PC Recovery, it'll be restored. If you have HP, it should be F10 once the startup screen shows If you have DELL, it should be F5/F8 Or use your computer's install DVD disks to do it. formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 He is going to need a Windows XP CD. From what I see, his PC is basically gone. Whatever virus he has, it has destroyed his Windows Directory. The stability of the system has dropped to probably less than 10%. I don't say 0% because he can still get to the XP Logo Screen. I have an XP CD with a legitimate VLK key. I can give the CD but not the Key because M$ will find out and basically screw me. I can't really help you Nisage unless I was there in person unfortunately, but I can give advice if you need it. I think the CD might be around here somewhere, then again it's probably long gone by now :( What does the XP CD do again? Thanks, I might need advice later, uh-oh..... My homework was on there, great <_< I'm doomed.
formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Explain to your teacher what happened...maybe he/she will understand. I hope you have a CD because if you don't you'll need to send it to someone to get repaired. I would look in the Yellow Pages for a good PC repair man. I would look in the Yellow Pages for a good PC repair man. :P, and they're not all that great, or at least one group isn't. A new message has appeared on the computer "NTLDR is missing, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart" What's a NTLDR? Edit: Also, none of my teachers would help me since they don't know a thing about this. They're not computer teachers :( Edit 2: Oh, you meant for the homework, oh :P Oops, misread comment, sorry. rgangsta 43 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Nisage, it depends on what mode you put the PC Recovery on. For HP "Destructive" Recovery wipes your hard drive And DELL, "Factory Image" wipes you hard drive.
Nisage 31 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 I selected one that said any DATA FILEs I have would be spared, it lied. I just lost everything on the computer :(:(:( I uh..... yeah........ Stupid computer lied to me. Oh well, time to start ALL OVER AGAIN, for the 4th time....... Edit: I'll need the installation of a few things, like a good internet browser, some anti-virus/malware/spyware stuff, and many rmxp-rmvx resources, ike websites. I believe Emily posted one with some VX Battle Graphics.
formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 NTLDR stands for NT Loader. It's the Bootloader that runs Windows. As for tools and stuff, there's a topic here that lists some free tools for Antivirus and Anti-Spyware, even some good web browsers as well. Sorry your PC lied to you, but they tend to do that quite often.
Nisage 31 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Luckly I still had some resources on another computer. Wish I could say the same for my games :( -sigh- Oh yeah forgot about that topic. Can you send a link for Visual Basic.net please, and for the TeamViewer as well?

Nisage 31 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 Yep, everything. Notebook files, pictures, my music (those will be a pain to retrieve :(), videos, everything. I managed to find some of them. The ones that'll be hard to find will be the spanish rpgmaker websites......... I should have known something was weird when there was an error with H:/Windows during the recovery program........ Nisage 31 Report post Posted August 12, 2009 I've never encountered a virus like that before, weird... Really? I always get a virus like this if I'm not careful. Even if I am careful, one manages to get onto my computer :( What was that one program that's like windows on drugs? Linux, or something like that, who suggested it again? I have some questions on it. How does it work, what does it look like, will it stop all viruses? More questions later, but for now, I have to try and obtain a lot of stuff I had. Lucky me I still had my homework on my flashdrive, not the newly edited one, but it'll do :)

rgangsta 43 Report post Posted August 13, 2009 Viruses are nothing to me. When they attack, I find them, delete the effects like registry edits and msconfig edits, then restore my Safemode, install NAV 2009/2010, then I kick back and relax. :P
Nisage 31 Report post Posted August 13, 2009 does rmxp work with linux? I hope it does, same for VX as well. Along with a few other programs...... it does but you have to use a program called WiNE Oh yeah, I know you mentioned that before. Will Linux help me play the RO games? @Joey: Wow, didn't know there as a double glitch :P @Rgangsta: Lucky you, I wish I was able to have done that.
