Truth can only go so far.

Recommended Posts

"Truth can only go so far" is a small collection of short stories I am writing. Each one represents a different character. Here is the first one. Do not claim these as your own.

"Umm... What am I meant to say?" I asked to Ken. "I don't know," he replied, "Just something about yourself," I sighed. "John, aged 26. Chief Weapons Instructor... Ugh, you know what. This is stupid!" I said, "It's not like they can understand our language!" Ken put the video camera down. "Well, what if other people do what we did?" he asked, "Don't you think that they would want to go back before it is too late?"

I sighed. "Ok, roll the stupid camera again." Ken pushed a button on the video camera and it responded with a red recording glow from one of its buttons. "My name is John Anderson," I said, "I am the Chief Weapons Instructor of Installation 707," "Don't say that!" said Ken, "Why not?" Ken put the camera on the ground but it was still recording.

"It's f**king classified!" he said, "According to the public, Installation 707 doesn't exist! People can't find it! They already destroyed it!" I raised my gun to his head. "I thought that was where we were going!" I said, "You said food, water, ammo and medical supplies were there!" he laughed. "You know as much about Installation 707 as I do; did you really expect scientists to keep them contained?"

"We got wounded!" I said, "What about Cathy and David back at the EVAC zone?" Ken laughed again, "They probally got them already!" he said, "They were just slowing us down anyway!" I pulled out a GPS, my gun still aimed at Ken. Installation 707 was a good few hours walk and the sun was already setting. "We'll have to set up shelter somewhere," I said, "We can't travel around at night with them on the prowl." Ken sighed, "We've got a much bigger chance of them killing us in our sleep," he said, "We are better off just moving during the night. Remember; they are unarmed. Their hands arn't much,"

"They eat flesh!" I cried out, "They are pink-skinned savages!" Ken was going to say something but there was a russling in the bushes. I drew my secondary firearm and shot a few rounds into the bushes. Something cried out a word of some kind. "What did it just say?" I asked. "I don't know... Sounded like... A-Alean? Alean?" Ken replied.

It yelled it out again, "No," I said, "It sounds more like Aily-en!" "Alien?" asked Ken. "Yeah, that's it. What does it mean?" Ken shrugged, then reached for his gun. I thought he was going to fire it at my and was about to fire at him when he shot into the bushes. The creature cried out again before finally dying. I reached into the bushes and pulled it out.

It wasn't pinked shin. It was more of a bay/cream color. "What the hell is this!?" I said, "This isn't what is supposed to be in Installation 707!" Ken sighed. "It's called a 'Human'," he said, "Savage creatures, arn't they!"

Chapter 2:

"You know nothing!" I yelled. I looked around at all the soldiers that sat before us. The instructor looked at me, "Sit down, Soldier!" he barked in my face. I turned to face the Soldiers again. "You know what's going to happen! We're all going to die! This isn't a military training camp, we're not..." I was interupted as the instructor zapped me with a Taser. I fell to the ground, clutching my throat and gasping for breathe.

"Anybody else have any smart ideas?" asked the instructor. Nobody did anything. "Ok," he said, "Alpha, Beta, Charlie and Delta; move out." At his order all the soldiers got up and exited the building. He leant down besides me. "You know too much, don't you?" he said. I couldn't move. I managed a weak cough as air slowly filled my lungs. He reached for his pocket and pulled out a Magnum, .358mm to be exact. He sighed, "So do I," he said, handing me the gun.

He helped me up. "I want you to kill me," My eyes widened, "Kill you?" I said in surprise, "But... sir," He shook his head. "Please," he said, "Call me Gordon," I looked towards the ground. "Gordon... I... I can't," I said. "You must," he said, "They're gonna kill me anyway!" I looked around, "Who's they?" I asked.

"There's not enough time to explain," he said and held out his hand, "It was an honour training you," I shook his hand and it turned out that he left a piece of paper in my hand. "Open it," he said. I opened it and his Keycard fell out. There was also a list of instructions on it. "What's this for?" I asked.

"Please..," he said, "Just do what they say... Now... You know what to do," I opened the barrel of the magnum; only 1 bullet left. "But, Gordon, I can't," I said, "I just can't..." a tear came from my eye.

"That's an order!" he said. I slowly raised the Magnum to his head and saluted. He saluted back and I noticed a tear come from his eye, also. And then... Bang...

"Ok," I said as I followed the instructions, "Step 1: Exit the compound," I walked up to a large gate. There was a slot for the keycard. I swiped it and the gate opened. "Step 2: Make your way to the black car parked in the 'Instructors Parking' area, parking slot 3,"

I searched and found the car. It was unlocked so I opened it. On the dashboard was a map, the keys and a piece of paper. There was 1 instruction left. "Follow the map to the area marked," I opened the map and saw the area with no name with a red circle around it.

I opened the piece of paper and read the 2 words on top; "Installation 707"

Didn't expect that ending the that short story did ya :D . I thought of a story with that plot ages ago but never really had time to work with the idea until now. Thanks for the comment.

Chapter 2 is now out. If you are wondering what side it is it goes like this: Chapter 1 side, Chapter 2 side then Chapter 1's side again, then Chapter 2's side and so on.
