Front Page

Recommended Posts

This idea is Kiriashi's and I thought I would have a go and try it.

The front page is a single page which is accessed at the base url(rmxpunlimited.net). For example, sites where they have intros, usually flash animations. So if this idea is applied there will be a page accessible as described above, and the main site is displayed at rmxpunlimited.net. This idea is primarily for new users that stumble on the site through search engines, and access rmxpunlimited.net(as opposed to rmxpunlimited.net/index.php).

It is also to promote the RPG Maker XP and RPG Maker VX homepages. My idea for the site and supporting multiple engines is to have homepages for each engine and design as if they were the main homepage for a single site supporting a single engine. So hopefully all VX users will being their navigation from the VX homepage, similarly for XP, and the actual homepage is like a portal for the forums(tons of member/forum info, announcements etc.)

Alright, so this topic is for creating that front page. I have already started a design. But I'd like some ideas from the members to develop a nice front page. In creating the one below, my computer crashed 5 times and i gave up at what you're going to see. My computer really cant handle photoshop, dreamweaver and firefox all at the same time.

Current design/base design: http://rmxpunlimited.net/m/

I don't really like it, at least not how the links are displayed. Also, the VX and XP characters are supposed to be aligned to the very edges and bottom of the page. But, well, havnet figured that out yet

DW is awesome....

Anyways, the main page looks interesting..... but we should have a flash opening. And the buttons that go to the VX and XP pages should be buttons, not text. ;) Like black to white buttons, since the background is black... maybe a creamy white... kinda grayish... or if you're british, greyish... which firefox says is not a word, but grayish is.

Flash is not going to happen, I actually did a 6hour course in flash intros, but not everyone runs flash. And there are a lot of complications with different versions of flash. And I want to appeal to everyone.

Okay, so you don't like the black or the text links. I'm going to work on a new design today, but in the mean time keep the ideas coming. What do think of the checkboxes at the top-right?

Do what I really want? A mascot, or mascots. For example, http://rpgm.org/

We spell it grey but its pronounced the same. We also spell color as colour.

No no no. I love the black; the text links are bad.

And you can provide an HTML version of the page too, just include a link of it at the top at the page.

You should encourage people to install flash player.

And what's this about a mascot? I could be the mascot... xD No really though, how about Arshes himself? :P

The check boxes.. hmm.. Well I think they are corny.. well kinda.

Maybe make a background for the page with faded out slanted words saying stuff like "Resources" and "Friendly Community".

This ideia seems pretty sweet. Nice one kiriashi ;)

I like the design, but i think it would be cooler to have instead of a only one colour in the background, have two or more with special effects (like waves or something).

It's missing something... Like This background:

I can't take credit for it because I didn't make it. Lady Stardust from Newgrounds did. But it's free to use.

I would say a gradiant is enough... that picture looks bloodstained... and we are not founders of murder inc.

in other words... to tomo's picture... I REJECT

The graphics are just fine. I think the page should not have a black background. There should be more sections such as news, recent posts, new members, member of the month, etc.

I like the background. Maybe there should be only one homepage, and pages with information for VX and XP. The one page can have all of the news and updates. IMO

The second one is much better, but I don't like the background for it. Maybe something more solid.

Oh, I'm not sure understand the concept of this. Especially after reading your last post in this topic. I'll try to explain it to you.

The purpose of this "frontpage" is to redirect traffic to the homepage of their preference of engine. This frontpage idea has come about from our plans to shift towards RPG Maker VX. This page is only accessible from the url rmxpunlimited.net. Anyone who stumbles upon us from there then has the choice of what section to visit: the RPG Maker XP homepage, the RPG Maker VX homepage, the homepage/portal, or the forums(i wont link this one). I'll draw you a diagram.

Get it?

More solid? I think I can do that. At the moment I thinking about changing to flash, the cool effects are hard to resist :P but we'll see.

Oh, and the option to automatically go to your preferred location. So you don't have to click on the same thing over and over again.
