On extending from the exclusive content I mentioned before in the topic RMXPUnlimited in 2010, I had an idea to remove all content that is from other websites(such as scripts, tutorials) and resources made by authors not from RMXPUnlimited.

 

This will effectively remove most content that we currently have, but where I really want to this to take effect is in the gallery. Members albums and then categories from XP/VX is extremely contradictory. Having the categories as well as albums promotes members uploading any random resources on the internet where the author is lost, and it also may create confusion on where to upload resources. So what I really would like to do is move all those resources into a single category and lock it away(though members can still use them) and have two main categories per engine. One is for edits and recolors of RTP, the other original resources. Only authors may upload their own files.

 

Similarly, the tutorials on the website removed and replaced with tutorials made by RMXPUnlimited.

 

This will decrease traffic a lot of course, but i think it can be beneficial for us.

Hmm... I like the idea but it has pros and cons. It attracts people but the creator might come along and start the whole "you don't have permission to... yadda, yadda, yadda. Blah blah blah". Hmm... The most logical thing for me to do is to flip a coin, I surpose, simply because of the reason that I can't pick between the two.

i don't think you sould remove all content that is from other websites(such as scripts, tutorials) and resources made by authors not from RMXPUnlimited. Cause it might decrease a lot the traffic that this site has.

 

You can make separeate the resources like this instead of removing them:

RMXPUnlimited origional resources - here any member can post their own content

Other resources - post any content, as long it has the author's name

 

And in the other resources, if you want to delete resources that doesn't have the author's name, you sould PM saying something like: put the authors name whithin X days or we will remove this resource. This will make members that posted the content to go and search for the origional authors.

My biggest thing is with links to like photobucket and file uploaders. We should atleast keep those.

I think its a great idea. Will decrease traffic at first by the more we get from our members the better the traffic will get

And not being able to upload resources we didn't make.. well that's not such a good idea either. :angry: Especially after I just uploaded all those tilesets, autotiles and face graphics.

I think it's a good idea, but I think it should be done when we have more original content then what we have now. Of course, removing what we have now could cause the "Oh crap, we have so little, everyone make stuff" thing, in which we would (hopefully) get some content from the other users. So, really, I can't say one way or the other ^^"

By deleting others' content from others' sites, it could be a mistake. Many items from the RMXP days has disappeared that way. In fact, 1/2 of SephirothSpawn's scripts have disappeared in such a manner. Before just deleting, maybe we should ask ourselves if we shouldn't just preserve the information.

 

Yes, going independent is a novel concept, but we also must take into consideration the following:

Will we have enough resources of each classification to make it look like a serious site; or are we going to be missing components?

 

I mean, name 1 person here who can make custom tilesets on cue. We need more of our own resources, and a constant rate of making new ones, before we just prune out what isn't ours.

Well, thank you all for your replies. I must admit that I was not expecting so many, but its great to see some nice discussion and ideas.

 

It is clear that the majority of you want to keep the resources, but there is also a hint that this results from doubt we could ever produce enough to be a serious site, as leon put it.

 

So my decision is to have a differentiation of exclusive RMXPUnlimited content/resources, although i am unsure how to do it at the moment. It's very tricky to do and not duplicate sections, although that almost seems inevitable. I must admit that I have been having doubts about how to move forward and apply my 2010 topic. I havent even turned my computer on in 2 days(using my brothers laptop now). I have pretty much lost interest in rpg maker and that makes me an ineffective admin..perhaps I am subconsciously foreshadowing something here. I think that perhaps the ultimate goal of any RPG Maker website (which aims to include all aspects of the game making process) is to assist in the production of RPG Maker projects, make them better, motivate and inspire them and consequently, to make them. I also believe that the removal of foreign resources - this is an extreme measure.

 

First, all the resources of the site attract new members (personally, I got here because of the resources of the site).

Secondly, in this gallery resources can be stored very long time, subsequently becoming virtually the only place where they will be found (as many people put all the file-exchangers, rather than putting them on the archive file).

 

It is better to actually reorganize the gallery of resources on "ours" and "others", as suggested Kiriashi.
