Mr. Franklin's Villain Development

In video games the villains are very important. Some are major, supportive, or minor. To have a good villain they need to be liked. Yes the villain needs to be likable to the players. They must be remembered by the gamers. They also need to be part of the story and be developed within it. Do NOT have the final villain have noting to do with most of the story(yeah I'm talking about you Final Fantasy 1 and the GBA version of 2). The final villain(by the way is a major villain) needs his parts in the story. This gives the player something to look forward to. I remember looking forward to fighting Kafka in Final Fantasy 6 because his character was prefect and Redips in MegaMan X Command Mission because of his government and military conspiracy.

To have make a good major villain you must have the following.

1.Good background information. What was his or her past experience in life? What made him into the the man he is today? What are his or her problems in life?

2.What is his goal? Does he want to rule the world? Does he want someone in particular to be killed? Does he desire more power? Is he a high rank commander and works for another major villain? As a major villain he must be very willing to almost anything to accomplish this goal.

3.He needs a good motive. Why in the hell is he doing this? Why is this person causing chaos in the world? Why does he want this power? Does he find entertainment in watching others suffer in agony?

4.He needs to be consistent within character. Stay to who you are. He needs to be different from others. Also do not make him a complete stereotype. What are his or her problems in life? Why have they become this way?

5.What is his or her weaknesses? Does he have an anger problem? Is he weak to an environment? Does he have an unknown illness?

6.What does he hate in this world? Does he hate people in general? Does he hate society? Is he racist?

7.What are his abilities? How good of a fighter is he? Does he focus on magic, weaponry, or a balance of both? What is his signature technique?

To have a good supportive villain you must have the following.

1.What are his goals? Does he obey his master for protection? Does he want money?

2.He needs a good motive. Why is he doing this? There must be a reason!

3.What is his rank? Does he work for a major villain? Or is he solo?

4.He can be a stereotype but not too much.

5.What are his or her problems in life? Why have they become this way?

6.What are his abilities? How good of a fighter is he? Does he focus on magic, weaponry, or a balance of both? What is his signature technique?

To have a good minor you must have the following.

1.They need to play a small role.

2.They can just be a boss in the story.

3.They can be stereotype.

4.Do they work for the major villain? Are they solo?

5.What the hell is he doing? Is he attacking a town? Is he just blocking your way? Is he just a tool of a Major Villain?

6.What are his abilities? How good of a fighter is he? Does he focus on magic, weaponry, or a balance of both?

6.Why in the hell is he doing this? Was he given orders by a higher power? Is he doing this just to piss off the party?

Example of a Major Villain.

Name:Kennedy

Age:30

Class:Dark Warrior/Dark Mage

Kennedy is a owner of a major corporation Kennedy INC. His company produces weapons for the military and police force. Lately crime has increase and this has led to Kennedy making more profits. Behind closed doors Kennedy is hiring people in a criminal gang to commit crimes. As Kennedy says crime does pay!
