Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) Well here I am again deciding to make my own video game development software (will I ever learn?); who knows. You see Marked might remember one of these projects I announced at one time, but this time is different, how? Well you see before I was using Microsoft Visual Express Edition (free version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Pro Edition; but not as powerful), but that is not the case in this project. So people (in hopes) would take me series about this project I forked over $2,246.13 (took me 2 months to save up) and bought Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Pro Edition, and yes as you will see they are coming out with a 2010 version (which I will upgrade to when that times comes), but for now it is 2008. Now all my other projects like this I would announce what I was going to do and go from there, but not this time. My team [as of now 8 people (3 programmers, 2 graphic designers, 1 marketer (deals with marketing; or will when that time comes), 1 director, and 1 producer (me))] have decided even before we start even a scratch of code or designing of the program we want your input. First off know that our software (name to be decided) will be coded in C++ and the reason for this is so we can do such things as give you the ability to export your project in multiple ways. So tell me what you would like to see in a video game software (e.g. RPG Maker XP and Game Maker 7 are video game software). Also feel free to suggest names for the software. EDIT Also when suggesting names please refrain from using names such as or contain the word or words: RPG Maker, Game Maker, RPG Tool Kit, Game Editor, Platform Studios, torque, builder, entertainment, dark, basic, 3D (this is a 2D software), 2D (may be 2D, but we don't want it in the name), Action, and Fighter. The reason for this is some of these names are associated with products already (e.g. Torque Game Builder or Dark Visual Basic) or they classify the software as only making one type of game (RPG, Fighter, Platform, etc); and most of the names listed above are Trademarked. Intro Video (large file; I suggest you pause it so it loads quite a bit) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiUjOeP9qus Edited November 30, 2009 by Hebi Kumo 1 Kiriashi reacted to this
Kaylen 1 Report post Posted November 27, 2009 You should have just used linux. Otherwise: Graphical Interface More Layers Better Passability Plugins/Scripts Event System A battle system that doesn't make my brain bleed. Pretty much RMXP but better. Just a few, not too fluent in programming.
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 27, 2009 You should have just used linux. It doesn't matter what we use as the software will be coded in C++ and each of my programmers uses one or the other OS: Windows, MAC, and Linux; thus allowing multi versions to run on these top OS. Kaylen 1 Report post Posted November 27, 2009 I meant that $2,246 is an absurd amount to pay for any software. Still though, I hope this gets finished.

Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted November 27, 2009 Can't own a business without an Adobe Suite! Hebi, is it going to be free? I don't know if I can pay another 60 dollars after RMXP; and RMXP is pretty powerful!

Sadly no, but we have 4 versions planned: 1) Trial Version (15 days to use every feature) {can not sell your games} 2) Registered (You will be able to pick and choose 3 engines to use for free; registration is free) {can not sell your games} 3) Paid ($30 to $45; will not go over $45) {can sell your games} 5) Copyright Removal ($60 or $100; still debating; will remove the Medevil Studios splash logo that appears before your game starts) {can sell your games} EDIT Added a Intro Video to 1st post Edited November 27, 2009 by Hebi Kumo
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Hebi is pronounced HEH BEE. That introductory video was well informative, thanks! I can't wait to see some progress.
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Hebi is pronounced HEH BEE. Well that's not how I pronounce it. Just like Kevan is still pronounced as Kevin. And out of all that you post how I pronounce my own user name......
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted November 28, 2009  Sorry about the post being so small; I accidently deleted a lot of the text before pressing submit. (I edited before your post anyways, but not to what it was before). I don't want to seem like a troll! Again, sorry about that. I'm excited for the program and can't wait to see what you do with it! P.S. You don't get to choose how it's pronounced! xD It's not like potato or tomato; or neither. Japanese words do not have variations in pronunciation, at least not in that way. He is always Heh, A is always ah, ke is always keh. That's just how it works. I'm only saying this so you are informed, so don't take this offensively! ^_^

And as for your comment on variations in pronunciation you are mistaken try getting some Rosetta Stone. And I have seen plenty of ANime where a character was named Hebi and it was said how I say it. <_< ON A SIDE NOTE Any name suggestions people? ================================================================================================== Also some ideas we have is to have more than one Engine, but you can access them all through a single program. Example in Game Maker it uses a single interface to create any game (scripting needed or not doesn't matter). In ours it will work something like this: 1) You choose NEW PROJECT "pop un window will display; with options" 2) Choose your settings Name: 'name of project' Title: 'name of game' Game Genre: 'choose from RPG, Platform, Maze, SPorts, Car, etc' Sub Genre: 'only appears if a Genre has a sub(e.g. RPG: original, action, and tactical)' Frame Rate: '20 (default)-50' Force Full Screen 'yes | no' Cut Scene Out Put: 'TBD' Splash Logo: 'shoose your SPLASH image; first thing people will see when your game starts' MS Logo: 'choose diffrent logos of the company who made the software; or disable' Now depending on the settings you choose will depend on what engine will be used to make your game. Blackbound 4 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 a couple of things: 1: name: Sliver 2: I CAN whip up a scripting parser ( a basic version ) from scratch, via a DLL (yes I will make the DLL, due to the fact that the parser isnt in C++ but VisualBasic ( I know some C++ tho... not enough to be useful in that language ) 3: I am building my own scripting language called ArkScript for RPGMaker VXP, which is written in VB.NET and is supposed to be open source. (I also use Visual Studio 2008, but because I am a student I didnt have to fork over 2000$ to get it :P )

Look, I can't change what you do, but I'm telling you now that it's pronounced Heh bee. I'm on the phone with a friend from Joetsu, and she confirms it. Back on topic. That sounds pretty interesting. What kind of settings will there be? And will there be a setting that includes everything from the start?
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 That sounds pretty interesting. What kind of settings will there be? And will there be a setting that includes everything from the start? Define Setting; or what you are referring to. I mean the software is in early stages so suggestions are welcome.
