Leon 55 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 Anybody posting any type of offensive or (removed)ographic material will be handed over to the proper authorities and prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law. As a warning, I have a log of your IP Address and WILL turn you over. This site contains minors, and that sort of posting is UNLAWFUL. Further, any other type of advertisement should be posted in the Advertisement Topic.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 They don't care because it's all done by bots. Well what I mean is the advertisers aren't gonna pay attention to this really. Sometimes it might be humans doing it but 99% the time it's bots that do it.
Leon 55 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 and whoever owns those computers will be arrested.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 Yep, I haven't had to many problems on my site lately with spam unlike this site damn. I've also banned alot of the emails though.
Grandor 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 Are Board has been spam free for a while. *Knocks on wood* I doubt it's a bot, because they always seem to post so consistently. It may be someone posting that kind of stuff. It is unlawful, but if it's made by a bot, until you know the person who made it, you aren't going to be able to do anything to them. Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 Bots are nothing more than software. They do run off a computer, and someones owns that computer. Tracking them down via IP, should be easy right? 'Sides, he gave them a warning it's their fault if they don't read it. I'm a minor and I already saw that one topic with the.. *Ahem*
Grandor 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 Their are ways to hide your IP, using another program. So, that won't work. The only way you could find out, is by knowing exactly what server or Internet Service the person uses to access the Internet. Then you can report it to them. Until you know that, people can change their IP at will, and avoid all bans that come with their IP.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 Even if they change there is still ways to track it down. One of the many wonders in this world. Trust me I run my own site just like this I know lol.
Grandor 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2007 You should share that info with Leon, he might not know.

Leon 55 Report post Posted February 16, 2007 Im honored. I do my best to help everyone, just as i think it should be. Think, if everyone in the world did that, would there really be wars?
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 16, 2007 I doubt there would be. We'd probbaly still have wars over something stupid. But oh well. Maybe something will change with us getting a new president. Because we have the first lady, the first black, and the first hispanic. I know we always say we ain't ready for one of these to lead the country but just maybe just maybe it's what we really need. Grandor 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 *Cough* Administration Validation. *Cough*
EmilyAnnCoons 7 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 agreed, admin validation would work. If we do that, then require anyone who is validating to be unable to post in any way, it SHOULD cancel out 99% of the spam... Awesome idea, Grandor. Leon, if you don't know how to do that, I can tell you...
Leon 55 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 that would be a nice thing to have. A really nice thing. THis site is getting to the point of needing that sort of thing. Also, I need someone who is on from approx. 5am-12pm Mountain Standard Time. I mean someone who checks the site frequently between thsoe two times. If you do, please pm me. Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Administrative Validation?
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 It means that each person that signs up a account has to have a Admin validate their account before they are allowed to post depending on group settings.
Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Ok, phew. Yeah, I'll go with that. I thought we needed Leons validation just to post. Oh, and maybe we should delete all the spam accounts. I doubt they would, but it would always be possible for them to log back oni
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 It is possible to do this. And you can ban emails to so if you ban the email they use they can't use it again. Or one the other is a wildcard ban on emails so like I'll put an example. twyzrds@yahoo.com (I would not be able to log in with that email) *@yahoo.com (no one could use a yahoo email to sign up) one of the popular ones I remember is *Cashette.com thats a popular spam email. Until you know that, people can change their IP at will, and avoid all bans that come with their IP. This is correct, but I have Broadband and my service I go through allows me to change my IP at will (same with AOL). But there are programms; even websites that will hide your IP address or use diffrent ones.
Grandor 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 I'm around here all the times that the advertisements occur. So, is wyzrd, but I don't see why you should employ members to take care of that problem, when you could take care of it yourself. This power board also has a spam bot security feature. You know on those websites if your signing up for a email or something they have that box with those letters that you have to type in to get it correctly? This site has the ability to employ that. That stops all spam bots because spam bots are only programmed with their info, they aren't programmed with the info they need to put the correct letters in the box to do that. And because every time they enter it wrong it changes, their is no possible way for another spam bot attack if you have that on. And yeah I notice my IP changes too, which sometimes allows me to vote on polls twice, because instead of using cookies they use IP's to see if you voted twice. If my IP changes then that means they won't know that I'm voting twice. I sometimes use that for my site to get a popular vote, heh.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 One thing I have to say about waht Grandor just said. Yes the security Capcha Box where you type the letters in help bots. But it's not always bot because I have that on my site and still get spam. Though employing members to help is a good idea that's why I have quite a few moderators and admin's on my site. Even if my site is kinda dead right now :( . In April I'm probbaly switching from IPB to VB I just think it would fit better for my site and it's cheaper.
Grandor 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 Yeah, because real people know how to type stuff like that. It stops bots not people. But because the same people have been posting in the same location, it's most likely bots. And VB is not cheaper. It's 200 for the full liscence. It's 88 for a 1 year liscence. I've been thinking about switching to it as well, because it's a little better organized (in my opinion) and it's even more secure. I've seen some leaks in security in even this version. I've never heard of Vbulletin ever having any problems with security.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 Yea VB is cheaper have you seen the new IPB Prices. http://community.ipslink.com/board/purchase.html And here is VB. http://www.vbulletin.com/order/ I'd rather pay the price of VB.
EmilyAnnCoons 7 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 yeah...IPB upgrades so much that they rarely keep up with security...its all new features...and half of the "new features" are just an imaged added to something (the difference between this and 2.1.7 is the fact they add images to the IPB admin CP for "Add forum" and a couple other minor things like that)
Grandor 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 The leased vBulletin Forum license allows you to use the software on your site for 1 year $85.00 each $160.00 each The owned vBulletin Forum license allows you to run the software on your site indefinitely. Along with this license, you will receive one year of free updates. Beyond the first year, you will have to pay a nominal fee, currently $30, to obtain updates for an additional year. It's 85 for a years liscence. But the IPB liscence is 150 dollars for the standard liscence, and 300 for the business. Well, you wouldn't be saving much but if you wanted to run both Forum Softwares, I would choose IPB, you'd be saving 10 dollars if you bought the standard. However, it's harder to install mods in Vbulletin.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 Actually I've heard several people that used both say VB is easier. And I think it is because I've had a play around on it before. But VB has better mods for the type of site I run thats the biggest reason I'm switching over.
