Really disappointed I missed this one. For personal reasons I was busy all of last week and staying away from home for several days. It didn't help I only have RMXP on my old computer which has no internet, and my current one disassembled to fix it.

Sorry Leon.

The next contest will be the middle of next month. the 6th it will be announced for sign-up, 15th will be end of registration and tileset announced, and then the entries by the 22nd. One week to build a map. SHould be enough time.

Ah, sounds good to me Leon. You see a part from being away from my house for most of that week, I am yet to install sound drivers on my newish laptop, which prevents me from installing RMXP. I had planned on doing it on my old computer and flash-driving it onto my laptop which has internet. Sort of a dilemma, a computer without internet and a computer without RMXP. Should have it on my laptop by the next contest though.

I feel like a double-post is necessary...

I just tested the maps because I finally got RMXP working on my copmuter again...

No offense Jesse, but your entry wasn't really what I would call a mapping entry. It consisted of a mainly dialogue and a battle system, and very little use of tiles.

The map Nina's Journey to the cave consisted of skillful mapping, and for me was the standout map. I'm not even sure whos entry it was.

Leon, the poll suggests to me that perhaps requiring the maps to be downloaded isn't the best way to do it. It is the best way to judge aesthetics of all the aspects of the map, but this does not seem to have happened in this case.

I agree, with you, Marked. It was a mapping contest, and I feel like nobody caught that air from this. Instead, they either randomly chose, or went with the better events or battle system. didn't pay attention to the mapping at all.

However, since most mapping skill does incorporate music, feel, and events, You must download to get the full feel of the map. I suppose from now on, if nobody will download, I will be forced to make all entries be 20x15, and I will take a screenshot of each and post just that. Music not having an effect, same with any events and so forth.. Disappoints me, however seems to be the only logical conclusion.

My map had almost no eventing or anything.

I was only focused to make a map with nice mapping design.

It is indeed disappointing... because I like this style of mapping contest. Some alternatives are a bench of judges who decide the winner, rather than a poll. It does take some fairness away when there is no poll, but that's assuming any poll is respected and not randomly voted on. The other is to record the demos and upload them to youtube, and have a poll. Rmxpunlimited does have a youtube account. Either way, I think we should at least give this system another shot before we jump back to 20x15 maps.

I'm assuming your map was Moonlight Enchant? Your entry was great Gary, dont worry about it. But this contest allowed you to use events as well to improve the feel of your map, as the voters (had the option of) testing the map themselves. My entry would have had little or no events, just a journey through the map. Just like the Nina's Journey to the cave entry. At the end of the day, its still a mapping contest.

Sorry Marked, but you're wrong. I choose the winner myself. It was a 3-way tie. Had I not voted,no one would've won. Should I have left it a 3-way tie? As proof,I deleted my vote.

Also, there were only three entries,Tomo,Leon, and Jesse.

the second map I knew was Jesse's,because the Ishtar Chronicle's logo was a dead give away.

Knowing Leon's proffessionalism,he would never plagurize a poem by T.S. Eliot,I knew Moon Light had to be Tomo's.

I choose Jesse's map because,Moon Light enchant had the plaguerized poem, and I felt it was highly inapproriate for Leon to win his own contest. Which,I'll admit was biased.

If Tomo didn't have that poem in his map,i would've choose Nina's journey to the cave

without a second thought, and I would've never known which map was which.

Sorry,for my super detective skills.

To Leon: No offense, but you shouldn't enter your own contest,I can't begin to explain how arrogant that would've been if you had won.

Your map should've been posted before hand as an example,to all the other contestants as a guideline for them to follow, and clearify to all the contestants you want their maps to be anonymous because Jesse practically wrote his name on his.

Ok, what I am wrong about? Yes I thought it was Gary's map, I know now its Tomos.

Your votes were biased. Look, this is a mapping contest, not an ethics contest. Next time, please vote on the maps which are the most skillfully made and the maps you think should win.

It is not arrogant for Leon to enter his own contest. Everyone had the same rules, it would not have made a difference if he started the contest or not, his entry would be the same. The maps were supposed to be fairly voted on by members of the community. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't one fair vote in this poll.

I voted fair, I can honestly say I preferred the map I voted for. I agree with Marked though, this is a mapping contest. For the next contest, we should switch to screenshots, but still have bigger than 20x15 maps.

All this fighting because I won? This was a my first mapping contest,I thought mapping included eventing, music, battle system and the over all playability of the map. I went all out and wasted at least 2 full weeks of my life making an actual game,I thought you'd all enjoy! Had I known you'd take a screen shot over my game,I would never have bothered!

The reason,my map had open space, was so the player could move around, and enemies could chase her easier.

A complicated map like Leon's would've been impossible to fight on with those monsters' limited Ai.

No one mentioned to me to make my map anonymous, either. The reason it isn't fair for Leon to win his own contests is because he knows which map to make his game on in advance, and now he's going to change the rules of the next contest because he lost? That's why he shouldn't enter his own contests, also he could've spent a week or even a month or longer making his game in advance. I'm not saying you did Leon, just that you could have. If you're going to preticipate, have a neutral party like Polraudio or Kiriashi choose the map.

At Marked,at least 3 of the votes were biased because everyone voted for their own project, myself included,

and no one lie and say you didn't,cuz NO one in their right mind makes a game and doesn't vote for it.

I'm very offended by what you said. My map may not have had the most things on it,but most of it was interactive and could be turned into a monster.

At Leon and Marked,

Did either of you guys even play my game all the way through? When you've turn 45 things into monsters;all the trees, all 5 birds, the chicken, the frog, the empty chest, the two clumps of dirt, and everyone of the people who attacked you,King Ryan shows up with his army, then you turn all of his soldiers into undead,or at least 18 of them, then he uses the Final Destiny and transforms;destroying all of your monsters at once, and poisons the player.

He,then, chases you around the map and you have to blink away from him for about 2 minutes and he dies from exaustion

because the sword kills its user.

For those who played my very first game, the Final Destiny is the same sword Sophia had, with the same powers, only in the hands of your enemy. Also,Ryan was the main character of the first RMXP Unlimited project, and Ninian was a main character of the second RMXP Unlimited project.

I did not intend to offend you.

My point isn't about you or your game, it's about fairness. Let me try to use what I have quoted from you to get my point across clearly: 'Most of it was interactive', these are your words. Your map was an interactive one, but this was a mapping contest. It's still a mapping contest, right? The goal is aesthetics. Make it look good. Since your map is mainly about interaction, and not mapping, why did it get votes for a mapping contest?

I can see you put a lot of effort and time into your map. But, you said yourself you had to make open space so it could be played properly. So do disagree that this had a negative effect on the mapping of your entry? Like I said, this isn't about your map, it's about whether people voted fairly, which in my opinion does seem to have happened. I dont think everyone who voted even played your map, jesse.

Do you see my point?

I would've just submitted a screen shot instead of a game,if I had known. I misinterupted what Leon meant by mapping, sorry.

First off: would you really include so much open, undecorated space IN a game? I mean, 9 out of 10 times players pick something visually appealing.

Second: I made it anonymous simply to void out any and all favortism.

Third: How dare you imply that I cheated by having knowledge of which map would be used in the contest! I'll have you know I created a random generator using the RGSS System and a simple script to choose the file! I would NEVER cheat, lie, or bend any rules for my own interest.

Fourth: Yes, I played it through; and I agree that mapping should include all the aspects of the afore mentioned. Just because you included every aspect doesn't mean that the map itself should suffer. I am certain you could have made a more decorative map with just as much playability.

@Blood_Queen: Me, Arrogant for entering my own contest? Why do you think I made the entries anonymous? Further, as I told Kay before the voting began: I will create a good map, but I don't want to win. However, if both Jesse and you (who admitted your vote was bias just because you didn't want to see me win my own contest) are going to get uptight, then don't participate. Nobody said you had to.

@Marked: I apologize for all this heart-ache. If you could, please, close this thread. Too much damn teenage drama for me.

@Everybody: I still declare Jesse as the winner, considering he did have the most votes. I won't change that. However, if everybody is going to get bent out of shape because I supposedly cheated, then the parties who believed I did can go get bent.

Honestly, I am deeply hurt by some of the accusations made here. I am not even certain I can be part of a community which holds members that would assume I am arrogant, imply I am a whiner who must change the rules, or even cheat to get my way. I don't need that crap.
