Forums SUCK

I'm really frustrated with forums at the moment.

 

I have made about 5 support topics on nearly as many forums about various things and so far have NO replies. It's not like my posts are confusing or in the wrong section... needless to say I know my way around a forum.

 

It seems like we have to learn everything ourselves. Forums suck, who agrees ?

Depends. Support forums are balls. But if you have a community, then it all goes good. RMing communities and RMing forums are two completely different things. One gives support and only support, the other introduces an aspect of a group of people who have a similar passion, other than a random bunch of people that come in, get what they need, and leave.

 

What's more is, in communities friendships are made. Forums? Puh-leaze. That one addition of a community factor makes things so much better.

 

If the Ubuntu support forums was a support community, then I'd love the place for more than it's person-to-person help.

See, support forums focus on support and don't encourage communities. This place has a discussion board and project "hosting" in th eform of threads, so to speak. So if we were to only offer help for RM and nothing else, then I'd not be here.

 

And this kind of thread is why I love communities. Discussion.

The problam with support forums is it is based off the help of other members. How many communities (because support or not they are a community) have or offer support for something, but leave it to you me, and Depree to give help? You ask me communities (RM or something else based) should have a team of support; e.g. Support Team.

Hebi, sorry i didn't really understand your post except the last sentence. A support team is a good idea for a forum that supports something...those members seek out the support topics and solutions.

 

I sortof disagree with you midnight, on support only forums. Having no real community is a benefit(or can be) because members just focus on solutions to other members problems. That is what im looking for, these forums with communities have useless support forums. Im all for non-community based support forums.

Granted, most of these forums are often faced with a similar problem.

 

But this does not mean that forums do not need to develop. It just means that you need a little push and expand the topics of forum.

Hebi, I didn't say that communities shouldn't have a support section and only discussion, but should have both a community and support aspect.

 

Marked, I'm sorta with you on this one. Having no community makes everyone seem like another person and have no idea who to trust.

If you have a community, then people know each other and know who to trust. Newbies with a name like 'FreeViagraCialis:D' or 'virus_programmer' would never really be trusted. But if you've "hung out" with a certain niche of people that you trust, you'd be more inclined to trust them with an answer. There's really no place to get to know people in support forums.
