Dark Den 4 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 If we were making a dev forum, what dev software would we have on the forum ?
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 We should just stick with gaming. I don't think we should make such a huge change to all software. If that is done then there will not be a good amount of people to help each other. Too many experts in different fields will equal in less results.
Marked 197 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I use XP :C My game will be for XP *Cries* I think new features, a new theme, some advertisements and some userbars will help this forum out. We'll need to make it vivid to others that this site can offer so much, but how? I mean, this site has the most helpful and nice (And I stress nice very hard, because all the other sites have jerk moderators and members :C)people and moderators. Other sites, like RMK, have a large forum and loads of resources and things like that. They have scripters there, which is why so many people go there. We barely have all the scripts others have, I think we need to expand on it. I could probably help gather resources and stuff. I was thinking of developing a theme similar to this: http://www.webdevrefinery.com/forums/index Maybe. I mean, i like the look of it. Maybe not? Its a nice forum :) As for scripts... and i shouldn't say this.. but I made the scripts archives so members can submit scripts easily and quickly. By going here. Although since this isn't on the forum there really isn't any community interaction, so submitting the scripts would making the forum more popular, but only with leeches who will not post or contribute back here... If we were making a dev forum, what dev software would we have on the forum ? At a minimum RPG Maker VX. I didn't really mean scrap XP entirely, but to move on from it. I don't think we should move away from the programs we've been about from the beginning, so I think we should stick with RPG Makers (at a minimum). As for other game makers, I'm willing to introduce whatever to the forum as long as its something that will work and be developed. Personally I will not be working with any game makers again, which makes this kind of decision tricky to make as admin.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 28, 2010 I was thinking of developing a theme similar to this:http://www.webdevref...om/forums/index Maybe. I mean, i like the look of it. Maybe not? Its a nice forum :) I think its a little too wide, and people would be frightened away from it. I like it, but there is something about it. I think its 'cause the sub-section forums are actually built like images, rather than what we have now...
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 29, 2010 I was thinking of developing a theme similar to this: http://www.webdevrefinery.com/forums/index Maybe. I mean, i like the look of it. Maybe not? Its a nice forum :) That forum looks awful with a terrible layout. We do not know who is online. We do not know what the current posts and threads are. So you are no longer making games with any programs. This is a tough decision to make. Start completely over and continue this game programing. You can make money by allowing internet advertisements on this forum. You can make money with this game making forum. You can also allow people to sell their games here at a small fee. How about making two sites. Keep this for gaming to make money and the other for Dev. To be honest with you my thoughts and opinions are biased to a degree. If this places then I have no place to go as we all now I am banned from every other RM community. So don't base this decision on one member. Base this decision on your heart and soul. Do what is best for you.
Dark Den 4 Report post Posted May 29, 2010 If the site gets based only on programming then most probably i will leave :(
Marked 197 Report post Posted May 29, 2010 Hey. I said in my last post we would not deviate from RPG Maker. Also, i dont care about making money. There is absolutely no way that I could ever make a decent amount of money from ads on a website. I have tested this. Economically, the amount of time i spend making a website that popular is far far worth spending at a job. For example, by my nearly accurate calculations: 2 months of unintrusive ads on rmxpunlimited = 1hr of labor.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 29, 2010 I think a friendly looking community would help. Made a friendly, calm and soft theme? Blue or light purple maybe? And some forum advertisements. Marked already made something only this forum has (the card generator), maybe you should make it so where you have to join and make a few posts first in order to use it? I have a odd suspicion that the new members only sign up for that one reason >.> I'm already advertising this forum a lot and a few others :s I'll try and get the people from others forums (new members who are ignored or something) to come over here. I'll explain we don't have rude, insensitive jerk Moderators and they will most likely come...unless they like being attacked by the staff :o I've seen forums go through this stage of any discussion. We just need to spread word, is all.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 29, 2010 We also need a new monthly question. The question should be changed every month. Keeping the same question makes us look inactive.
madanchi 18 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 well I admit I havnt been on that much recently, partly due to my degree deadline and finally relaxing for a week, now im starting to go back onto forums keeping active also I'm working a lot on my short film, but im doing more and more on my rmxp project :) more sotryline, character creation and music has been done
Joko 1 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 yeah i havn't been on latly too because of finals :S...i think we have the good staff, good members, but what i think would be a cool feature to add would be on the front page a slide show like thing that shows ALL the games that have been created by members and stuff. or just the top rated one. like may a star system for the games people's make and stuff. Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 Leeching is coming, downloading and leaving. Asking for help is in no way leeching. To be honest, we want to help as many people as we can :) In fact I encourage you to find something you cannot do, just so we can help you with it. I though that I would point this out just in case anyone missed it. Anyways, as a note to all new-comers that aren't leeching, please, ask as many questions as you can, post as many errors and problems you've had as you can, post as many contributions as you can. Whatever your time allows. Even if it's just a silly story you want to share in your life or something stupid to post in the Spam-O-Rama forum, it helps. When all you "newbies" ask a bunch of questions, it gives the more experienced users a chance to contribute. Questions are a very good thing. Keep on asking! Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 It really is important for everyone to understand to NOT BE SHY! Plus I love answering questions! RKO, would you mind decreasing the size of your signature just a teensy bit please? It's just a tad bothersome. Thanks!

Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 Well its something that is on my mind quite a bit. Some people feel like they are being rude by asking a lot of questions.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 ^ Most likely because they come from RMK. I've seen the moderators and members act like such jerks to new members asking questions. Like swearing at them and stuff. They might think asking questions is a bad thing >.>
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 That is impossible here. :) To be honest, the current support system sucks. People REALLY get confused where to post, even though there are images of the engines on the support forums. I have divided up the engine support forums into a category. However there are support topics made in Game Development and for some reason Tools & Utilities. I hate the forum structure...
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 Marked you told me that I was going to moderate the gallery. What happen? Also Marked putting ads on the site is not hard. You can use the money for the site. Also we need an arcade. I know you cannot do this all by yourself. I am sure we have some members who know a bit about web sites. Clone is a good guy to talk to for help.

It seems so easy to me to understand what goes where. I don't see what's so hard about it. And why do you hate the structure of the forum. It seems pretty good to me. Though I would put the engine support up above.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 There is nothing hard about what goes where. I am trying to say this as nice as possible. I don't understand why people post stuff in the wrong forums. Clearly they are not reading the names of the forums, randomly posting, or cannot understand English well. Some people don't know how to use the gallery. A stickied topic that explains what types of threads are allowed -- you know, questions. Or, edit the forum's description for each sub-section to make it a little more clear. Or, edit the forum's description for each sub-section to make it a little more clear. The name of the forums are clear enough. Anymore info would be an insult to mine intelligence. On to something more important. What should the new site name be? What we really need is to have our Projects to have profiles like at RMnet. That is a great feature to have to this site. I will come up with a site idea tomorrow at work.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 RKO is right, there is nothing confusing about the forum names, its just that the people who stop by for a quick question, and sometimes regulars too, don't take the time to look for the right spot. And really all it takes is a few more seconds. I can't really think of a good solution for this...
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 There really is no solution to fix this problem. It will always happen. (I speak this from owning a forum myself in the past.) Now though when you say it's plain as day. That might not hold true for some people. What if this is their first time opening RMXP, they might not know the difference between one to the other. You also have to remember you have people from all walks of life stumbling across here. Look at me, I'm a rapper, is that the kind of person you would really expect to find here? Most likely not. The forum structures are fine. Us moderators will just have to move them when they are in the wrong place. I have been doing lately. Also, as RKO pointed out, some people that do stumble across here, don't understand English very well. They themselves say it. So maybe that's the case. They are not to blame for that. There is a solution for the problem. We need get people interested in this site. What brings people to RM sites? Resources, Help, Scripts, Games, and Discussions. Overall the site layout is great. The only thing the forum is missing is an arcade. We just need a good staff. We need our Games featured on the main page. Our projects need profile pages. We should expand to at least all RM engines. alexlee0092 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 I think an arcade would be good too, but overall I joined the site for resources and help. I found out that everyone here is very helpful and don't bring each other down. That's what I like about this site.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 And me, right? You like the site because of me? lol We used to have an arcade though. I kinda' miss it now. :( I think we need a flash intro....
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Well, what about people who just get into Rpg Game makers? They might not understand where their questions goes. >.> Plus, the people who don't really speak English well would need help too. At least a stickied thread would help them a lot.... I think we need to pull together resources, scripts, fonts, and everything else. What do other forums have that we don't? 1: A name that goes with all makers 2: Sections for other game makers 3: sections for other discussion. 4: Contests 5: Loads of resources 6: Loads of Scripts 7: Each forum has one thing to offer others don't. We have the generator. We need to make it so where you have to have a account and a few posts that aren't spam or at least three days of activity. 8: A dark theme -- people love darker themes. :)
