Marked 197 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 It seems to me that when people give the site a chance, they really like it. But its getting them to give it a chance that's the issue. I can have an arcade up if I wanted. The mod is in beta right now i think, and also needs ion cube which im not sure if isaacsol has that installed on the server... I will ask when the time comes. I like ur list, crimson :) I will review this topic when i finish uni :) please keep the discussion alive
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 I'm still not going to stop whining about a flash intro. It would totally improve the site. There can be an HTML version too....
isaacsol 10 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 I am not sure if ioncube is installed on the server. Let me check for you. NB. Just checked and the server should support ioncube.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 An Arcade? What is that, exactly? I've never seen an arcade on a forum...it is a game, right? >.> @Kiriashi: What do you mean by flash intro? Do you mean like a little movie that plays on the homepage? @Marked: Okay....we'll just have to think of something that makes them want to give us a chance...how about a signature? I don't mean like an image in your signature, but maybe a quote or something. Like we're nice and answer questions and help, or something like that :s
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 An arcade on a forum has many games you can play. There is also a ranking system for the highest scores.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 A Arcade is actually a compilation of games. Just a bunch of games you can play on the site. @Franklin - When I said you can't fix the problem and there is no solution. I was talking about people posting in the wrong forums. That is always gonna happen and there is nothing to fix it.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 They probably post int he wrong section so people notice their thread....
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 They probably post int he wrong section so people notice their thread.... That's actually an ineteresting way of looking at it. They might actually be thinking that much into it. lol As for flash intros, it doesn't nessacarily mean a movie, just a fancier way of showing tutorials, the forums, chatroom etc.
Leon 55 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 The reason a lot of people have been dropping it, is usually one of the following reasons: Work goes unnoticed. They ask for outlandish help, and never receive even a reply as to why it is a lot of work. They get bored/sidetracked from the engine. Every site is the same, and their 'unique' items are superfluous. Me, personally, i got sidetracked and bored with the engine. (Curse you, ps3!!!) And I am afraid I must disagree with Crimson on a darker theme. I hate darker themes, personally. And to point out, CA, and .org both didn't have dark themes, yet remained a couple of the largest sites. Many associate darker themes with people who have bad attitudes; and the last thing we need is a couple of snippy members.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 Org. remains the way it is, because its been standing for so long. They have a couple dark(er) themes, I use one there. I've seen a lot people turn all kinds of forums down because of the lightness to it. Some people have bad eyes :S Maybe have a light, medium and dark theme to pick from? More of the members that just pop into here for a quick question get their question answered more than the other sites. On the other forums, they get yelled at or cursed at, or made fun of and their question remains to be answered....This forum is by far the best, we just need to let everyone know that, somehow. That's actually an ineteresting way of looking at it. They might actually be thinking that much into it. lol I've had it happen on my forum before lol I said "I would have answered this even if you put it in the right section, ya know?" and the people admitted they did it on purpose to get their thread noticed. Well, that was my experience, just thought to share :P
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 I don't have a bad attitude and I love dark themes.
Leon 55 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 don't take it personal wyz. I said people associate it that way, I never once said that people who love dark themes have bad attitudes.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 Another problem we have are LURKERS. Some of these lurkers use to be very active or at least somewhat active. They should at least even if it is in Spam O Rama! Keep posting and more people as visitors will notice and may join.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 I think we should set lurckers up so they can't see images, links or anything else....unless they already are? Or we set up a costom post count rule to see the resources of the site...? *I love darker themes, they are nice on the eyes :)
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 Lurkers, or leeches? At the moment guests can't see avatars, signatures or posted images. As for the theme, the solution seems simple to me. Have the majority favored set as default, and the other an option. So have the light theme set by default and dark theme as an option.
Wyzrd 12 Report post Posted June 7, 2010 I was just picking on you Leon, I actually tend to have a very bad attitude. Just no on this site. I keep my composure here :) That is what I would suggest Mark, that is how a lot of forums run it. One as a default then one or a couple others for members to choose from. Marked 197 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 A little earlier in the topic we mentioned a dev forum and engines... So I'm thinking at the moment, we make RPG Maker VX our main engine, and make the site into more of a dev forum than a place to hang out. What do you guys think about that?
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 :( If it would increase activity then by all means, go for it. But I love RMXP so much. *sniff*
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 RMXP will always be here. But, what i was suggesting in that post was to change our focus to RPG Maker VX. You guys can do all the XP stuff u want, there would certainly be XP forums. And anyway, I'm trying not to say i will definately do something. A lot of nice ideas have come out of this topic already, anything i say in the thread is to generate possible ideas for the future :)
Joko 1 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 Has anyone made a cool youtube video for the site? like with effects in stuff? i think a video would be a good idea like on the front page. and maybe even make 1 once a month or like every couple months? Also i think the flash type intro or like youtube video would be a great idea,or something showing one of the games created on here that all of us thought was really really good. The arcade is a good idea i remember seeing one on a old runescape private server site called midevilscape. heres the old site http://midevilscape.smfforfree3.com/ I Thought this type of arcade was really cool, it shows who has the most titles/1st place (its me haha). madanchi 18 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 well, Ive seen some vids by rmxpu on youtube, but not of the site itself. I see focusing on VX is more up to date and would show first timers that the forum is up to date with rpg makers

Has anyone made a cool youtube video for the site? like with effects in stuff? i think a video would be a good idea like on the front page. and maybe even make 1 once a month or like every couple months? We used to have an arcade. :S But I really do think there should be a flash intro that shows all the new content on the site. It would be pretty awesome. There can always be an HTML version for non-flash devices.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 A little earlier in the topic we mentioned a dev forum and engines... So I'm thinking at the moment, we make RPG Maker VX our main engine, and make the site into more of a dev forum than a place to hang out. What do you guys think about that? I agree totally with this! I think the name of the site should be just RM Unlimited for all RM developers. Can you make a gallery for 2k3? Believe it or not there are some great Super Mario and MegaMan fan games made by the 2K3 engine in recent years. Weren't you about to make me the mod for the gallery a few months ago?
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 2k3 has bit the dust, and RMXP is closing in too. ;( Maybe this site will have to change to www.rmvxunlimited.net or www.rmunlimited.net.
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 We could change to rmvxunlimited.net, TheHoodedMan bought us the domain name. But it seems not to be working right now.
Joko 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 We could change to rmvxunlimited.net, TheHoodedMan bought us the domain name. But it seems not to be working right now. why would you change the domain name? i think xp is fine since it seems most people use XP. Or are you showly chanigng into a more vx website? i kind of prefer it as rmxpunlimted or even just rmxunlimited if available.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 I think RMUnlimited is better because that is for ALL RMs. There are still some people who uses the older RMs.
Joko 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Yeah i have to agree with RKO haha. is there more then vx,xp,and 2000? those are the only ones i've heard of...

Have the majority favored set as default, and the other an option. So have the light theme set by default and dark theme as an option. Actually, as a guest, I can still see the URL of images and stuff. Copy and past them in a new tab and it works. Maybe making it say this to non-members: "We're sorry, this feature is only available to members." That would help ^.^ We should change the name because it sounds like we only deal with XP. VX is the most used system, we need to appeal to all RPG game maker users of all systems. :D
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Yeah i have to agree with RKO haha. is there more then vx,xp,and 2000? those are the only ones i've heard of... There are quite a few RPG Makers. Google em'. But I think if any change, it should be rmvxunlimited. It sounds better, and RMVX is used more than XP. rmunlimited sounds is kinda' ambiguous. Some people might not recognize it as an RPG Maker site.
