madanchi 18 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 rmvxunlumited sounds good, but rmunlimited covers all rpg makers but like said previously, it may not give the immediate thought of rpg maker
isaacsol 10 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Personally, I don't think that changing the domain is necessary. How about using rmvxunlimited.net and have it redirect to rmxpunlimited.net ? I can do that easily from the server ACP, as long as the nameservers are set on the domain.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 ^^^ 'Tis a good idea. Though I still think that changing it to rmvxunlimited wouldn't be to bad either.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 We need more than just a name change to make a big difference. I have been trying to make a resource staff to make resources. However every time I get people to join they leave the site.
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 In terms of the domain name, no one really expected us to be up for 4 years, especially me. So how long do I plan to keep the site up? No idea. We lasted longer than RMXP has (not to say it is dead), who knows if we'll outgrow RMVX too. Rmvxunlimited has all the issues rmxpunlimited does. Its suggests we're about one engine, which, we're not. Also, the task of creating a pool of rmvx users is quite intimidating at this point. What if we change to that domain name and never really get any vx users? The longer a site uses a domain name the more valuable it becomes. Unless anyone has an argument for rmvxunlimited, we wont be changing our domain to that.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 Well, I still think changing it to something that'll be good to all users, would be a good idea....
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 Yep, it is a big decision really. It will create a lot of 404's, but I can try to setup redirects if the domain were to change. However the site changes will come first. This topic will likely be the starting point :)
formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 Random splurge here: I read a few pages and realized we're focusing all on RM** (replace the *'s with letters of your choice). What if we opened ourselves even further to some different engines with popularity? Look at FPS Creator. It's only getting better and better. And it has a scripting language. I know we have a programming sub forum, but (and I need to help with this) it has a lack of content. If we can get programmers interested in the forums here, they could post materials in there, fueling one area of the forum, attracting attention. Domain changing...I think it's recommended. It does make me think this site is for RMXP only. It can be a put off for people looking for other things that we might actually offer here. I can't say much more since I've been 'out of pocket' for quite a long time....but changing the look of the site (such as what content we want to push forward) and domain would be a step (IMHO) in the right direction. isaacsol 10 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 I think we could use other domains which redirect to this one, but keeping the current domain is recommended as it will be easier for older members to still find this place. We could also update the meta-descriptions for the site which search-bots use so that the site's description will no longer be just RMXP or RMVX, and it will also come up in searches like "game maker" or "game engine" etc... formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted June 14, 2010 Updating the meta-descriptions is a good idea as well. It would have the search engines pull us up for more results.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But if what you're saying is keep rmxpunlimited.net and have other domains redirect to this one, then that does nothing. If the other domains are never used then no members will ever end up there to be redirected here. Right? As for meta-descriptions, IPB has been working a lot on this and I also use a nice mod which allows me to edit meta descripts and keywords for each forum and topic. Very useful. Also joomla is already quite developed in that area. We do very well in search engines I think. Well, google is by far our main source of traffic. The problem with adding other keywords is that we may get users we don't want. And by that I mean we will get users who're looking for content we don't have. What we need to do with meta-descriptions is use the right keywords to attract members who are looking for the content we do have. Alright, I'm going to start :) Keep an eye out for entries in the dev blog.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 Oh Marked I think the first thing that should be done is the project profiles. This way guest can see our projects and it will be a cool feature. :alright: This will tell people "hey if this guy can do this then so can I".
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 Project profiles? I should know this shouldn't I? :sweatdrop: I've already done quite a bit today. :)
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 So you've been working on them?
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 Nope! Haha, seriously what are they? I've been working on cleaning up the menus. And just finished like 60 redirects to finally remove the old archives from the menus. And I reinstalled the hook that shows members in the chatroom. Seriously you need to tell me what project profiles are. If it was mentioned in this topic, link me :)
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 You have no idea? You mention it months ago! LOL http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/topic/3750-rmxpunlimited-in-2010/
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 Oh, that. Haha yeah but I didn't call them project profiles. This unfortunately is far down the list on my todo list. There are more important things to first, but mainly just cleaning up and optimizing the forums. This is a huge task and requires a fair bit of coding on my part. I think I can take the challenge on though. I was use speicial software to do it, the same as what our scripts archive use. However the issue is that the version of the this software has changed, and to upgrade would mean to lose our scripts archive. Although i beleive its possible to convert. But I have to learn this software over again since the new version is a complete rewrite. So as you can see, its a big task. The downloads manager also has to be fixed first too. FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 You really need help and too bad I can't without the skills and knowledge. Maybe you should make a thread asking for help. This is a lot of work for one person.
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 Maybe :P I suppose it is a lot of work, though only person can create the projects section. There's a million minor things that need to be done really, and key is doing the little things right. To be honest, topics like these and feedback from members is such a big help. Since my time has become very limited relative to the old days and I dont use RMXP anymore or VX, I really can't do it on my own.

ProjectTrinity 8 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 Is there a way to instantly see "New posts" on the top of the page's toolbar? I'd actually be much more active myself if that option was there. Oh, and the notification system doesn't notify me when I receive new messages/responses, so I just never know. =p

Marked 197 Report post Posted June 18, 2010 Yeah and also there is a new content link in the breadcrumbs, view new content link in the board panel and "Today's active content" link in the board stats header. @Kiriashi: Basically what I said to Franklin: This unfortunately is far down the list on my todo list. I worked pretty hard on the archives. So I don't want kill them so soon. Google is an integral part in maintaining traffic, and taking away some of our most viewed content isn't the best thing. To get started on this topic, I have to upgrade the scripts archive articles and then have to setup individual redirects to stop 404's. We're going a bit off topic here though. Lets try to keep it to suggestions for the community. :) I'll make a blog entry soon.
