Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted January 1, 2010 =============================================== Let's Twist The Game So we Can Mold The Plot =============================================== Intro So in most RPG games you play as a hero who must stop our bad villain from taking over the world or obtaining ultimate power. By simply altering a few things about how the game is played we can mold a story that could be compelling and drive the player to perhaps even play the game again. Evil is the New Good So to do this why don't we have our player play as the bad guy. This in itself opens us up to stories that have never been told in your average RPG game. Playing as the main bad guy will give us the idea and thought on how and what made the person decided they wanted to take over the world. This allows us to see and tell the story through the eyes of our villain rather then our heroes and allows us to finally let the bad guy beat up the good guys. That's crazy; you say? Why? In the real world people can get away with murder so it only makes sense to add this concept to your story. I work for the Villain, But I'm Not Evil! Taking the idea above lets mold it in a different direction and have the player play as a character who works for the bad guy. He's (she's) not evil, but he (she) also chooses not to tell our villain no, as he(she) fears for his (her) life. In fact this person is dieing on the inside as they know what they are doing is wrong, but continue to do so as they fear what our villain may do to them if they disobey him. This also allows a sub-plot for our character as he (she) tries to cope with the things he (she) is doing well convincing himself (herself) it is the right thing to do. I Work for the Villain, But I will See Him Dead!! Now let's turn our bad guy who works for our villain and make him just as mean and hateful as our villain. by doing this we can now have a sub-plot in which we watch our character wait for the right moment to strike to steal our villains victory from his clutches. This character follows the orders of our villain with no regreat or remorse, but shows to the player that he has his own plans to take over the world. ---Hebi Kumo/Hedge Knight
Kaylen 1 Report post Posted January 1, 2010 I like the idea, in fact I was even going to use it in one of my projects. I had it planned so that in act I, you play as the antagonist. Then in act 2 you play as a different character in a seemingly unrelated storyline. In act III you change again into the protagonist and (hopefully) defeat the antagonist. I never thought of the prospect of working for the antagonist though, it would definitely be interesting.
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted January 2, 2010 Sometimes to make your story catch the player you need to kill the good guy.
squidgy617 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 I'm using this for my current project. You play as the villain, but you start with nothing but a small building with one or two minions. So, your quest is to get more minions and build the ultimate empire under your command. In the end, you defeat the hero and conquer the kingdom.
