Joey 9 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 No clue what's going on, whether its a virus, or if its just some glitch/bug somewhere. I have no clue...anyways, I believe it started out with a program I use to keep Sins up to date (and to buy the micro-expansions for that game) called Impulse....well, now I cannot open it up at all and had trouble even uninstalling it. As far as I know, its uninstalled (last time it randomly popped up after uninstalling it). One of the major things you could notice with this is when I try uninstall Impulse or reinstall it, it doesn't install or whatever at all and the CPU usage maxes out at 100%. I tried going to Impulse's website and attempted to clean out some files and reinstall them since it also had something to do with this .NET Framework, thing is....now I cannot even reinstall this correctly. CPU usage always goes up to 100% and the installer does nothing, and I'm noticing issues with other programs now such as Yahoo messenger and my computer is trying to update the .NET stuff now and failing because of that 100% crap. Ugh! I can't tell if its a virus or not, AVG, Spybot, and Ad-Aware couldn't find anything. What should I try, I'm afraid to do anything else... :( EDIT: Forgot to say this, not sure if its happening with anyone else or not....but when I go somewhere like Google (to check my mail) this new tab randomly opens up with this survey thing with an annoying voice. Never happened before ever, I did notice that it popped up in other sites too. What's going on?!
Leon 55 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 You probably contracted a new virus, or one that is masked by another file. You may want to do a system restore to a previous date which you know nothing was happening, and give it a shot from there.
Joey 9 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 I'll try and see if that works then...I'll let you know if it works or not.
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Sounds like a bad virus to me. Try your hardest to uninstall it. If you need to delete files that are in use or cannot delete them do to some unknown reason use a program called unlocker. http://download.cnet.com/Unlocker/3000-2248_4-10493998.html
Joey 9 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Well I tried the System Restore, though when the automatic updates try to, um, update....I get this error: Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86 (KB963707). That and Impulse is still hogging the CPU usage when it is active. As for Pol, I don't even know where to look for the virus...Do you know another anti-virus program other than the ones I have? They can't find it.
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Could try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware after updating it. http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button Finds some things others cannot.
Joey 9 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Thanks, I'll give that a shot then, I'll post a reply here if it finds anything or not. EDIT: Pol, every time I try to get it to scan it locks up...
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 I know i had issues with AVG on a few computers i fixed last week. As soon as i removed AVG the problems were fixed. Some of them were shutting down as soon as it started up and some had the same problems you had.
Joey 9 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Weird....never had any issues with AVG though...Ugh, guess we can work on it tomorrow then, I'm getting somewhat tired of this. lol
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 This sounds like a virus. Try to scan your computer a few times and the files. What is the virus protection you have? If you do not have McAfee or Norton then get them. They are the best virus protection money can buy.
Joey 9 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 ....What exactly is the .NET Framework stuff anyways? Is it really necessary to have them? Cause I'm not able to download this 3.5 one for some odd reason now.
Joey 9 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 Oh, and uh...apparently it isn't a virus...but yeah, this is that one thing I was talking about...Apparently it appears randomly when browsing the net, its very annoying, and I'm guessing its affecting all Firefox users since its happening on my mom's computer as well. Avast and AVG run much faster & better than those 'corporate' antivirus's. Anyone that I know that has had Norton or McAfee has gotten rid of them as soon as their license expired and moved to a free virus/firewall that actually works... Just saying from my own experience and friends experience that Norton did not stop anything from actually happening, and when it did happen, it couldn't do anything about it and simply wasted time by locking the system and then restarting by 'automatically removing the threats' and failing.
