Palin vs. MacFarlane

Recommended Posts

For those of you who haven't heard, Sarah Palin has decided that Family Guy's creator, Seth MacFarlane has taken things a step too far.

In a recent episode of Family Guy, Chris ends up going on a date with a down-syndrome girl, who, when asked what her parents do, responded with "My dad's an accountant, and my mom is the former governer of Alaska."

Apparently, Palin [ur;=http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/02/15/2010-02-15_foxs_family_guy_takes_on_sarah_palin_by_appearing_to_mock_her_son_trigs_down_syn.html]didn't like this.[/url]

In my opinion, she is using this as publicity. MacFarlane has teased and tormented Luke Perry, Dick Clark, and a long list of other celebrities without any of them saying it was too far. And yet, just that one sentence has made Palin say this is 'all too far.' I don't know about you, but I don't see any accountants with down-syndrome kids complaining about this episode, so why is she?

I have seen more than 90% of the Family Guy episodes. I have seen cripples, fat people, blacks, and hundreds of others insulted, but nobody has called him on it before. This seems a little harsh of Palin.

That's a soul reason of me not liking Family Guy so much -- their horrible jokes.

It's funny when they aren't insulting black people, fat people, cripples or anything else...

I don't think she's going to harsh on it, although she is just doing it for publicity.

What i meant by the 'blacks, fat ppl' etc bit was that he insults everyone. And i mean everyone. As it has been said in the show itself, if you don't like it, don't watch it. Period.

I see no reason to take it personal at all. Further, not a thing was done in that show to insult the girl with Down Syndrome. If anything, I'd be more insulted being called kin to Palin, considering her latest faux pahs.

I'm not saying some of his jokes aren't in bad taste. I admit, some are extremely bad. But my point is she is blowing it so far out of proportion, that it is obviously for attention. Kind of horrible of her. If oyu think about it, she is using it, and her son (yes, i said using her son) as an excuse to get on TV.

I know what you meant ^.^

Yes, she is blowing it out of proportion, but she is allowed to feel insulted. She was basically being called an idiot in front of thousands of Americans.

Trust me, that wasn't nearly as insulting as a video I came across with Colbert calling her a F-ing retard for defending Limbaugh but dogging a liberal for using the word 'retard'. But that is another subject entirely, let's remain on topic... I don't want this going political...

I actually enjoy the humor in family guy. I find it irritating she'd use it, and her son, as reasons for publicity. I knew a young mentally challenged boy growing up... sweetest kid. I took no insult from it because it didn't insult any down-syndrome people, really. It was more of a pot-shot at Palin.

I missed that episode of Colbert.

Eh, well, she will do anything for attention. But let's be honest...she is pretty dumb. :S

I saw the episode a couple of days ago and also a video of what Palin said on it.

I've seen family guy make cancer jokes, but this is more specific. Palin has a son with down-syndrome, and family guy is (sortof) making fun of that. To make this post short, I dont think she was overreacting. They also played a clip of Palins daughter commenting on the episode. If it were my brother that they were directly taking the piss out of, I would just lose it.

Its funny for normal people whos lives haven't been affected by an incurable disease(their own or immediate family members), because lets face it, you just dont know what its like. It's nearly impossible to put yourselves in someones shoes if you havent been there yourself, so I would expect most people to say she is overreacting.

I'm just saying, if i was in the same position i would be more than pissed off. But I'm not, so i couldn't care less.

Check out some of the other more direct references, such as in their 100th and 101st episode, they point out Dick York's (I think that was him) stroke, but nobody brought that up.

Alright, I'm not going to get political here, but really Leon?

A teleprompter makes talking a cakewalk for someone; the teleprompter gives the speaker everything he/she needs to know. Now I have no problem with Obama or anyone else using a teleprompter; I mean it does seem a little cheap, but it's not that bad.

But if you want to say that Sarah is being absurd (I know you didn't say that, I'm just using a random adjective) when she criticizes Obama even though she wrote three phrases on her hand.. well doesn't that sound harsh? Which sounds better to you: A) having someone read the entire "speech" to you, or B) reading three phrases throughout the entire conference/speech/whatever.

Palin had to memorize a lot more than Obama did if you think about it; her words came from her heart, just with a little reminders. Obama's words came from his ears.

I don't like Palin, but I see her point. Family Guy has gone too far. Society likes to make fun of all types of people in the media.

I know I was personally offended by Adamn Sandler making fun of ear deformity in The Longest Yard. This is something I suffer through everyday by being treated different by some people.
