Well, I'm really wanting to work with RMXP.

Well, seeing how my resource request thread isn't going so well anymore (as usual, lol), figured I would try and make this thread. Currently the only existing RMXP game I have is Joey's Worst Nightmare, and as usual I'm stuck due to having trouble finding resources and scripts. I need help, I'm really wanting to actually complete a game and bring these ideas to life. So, before I ask for help...I'm going to make a poll here and simply just answer and/or post what you think I should do. I would appreciate it...

 

It's basically this, should I continue working on Nightmare? If so I'll still be searching for help (something I'm having trouble with, lol), but I'll need help anyways if we decide on the other choices. There's still that "Mario Party" like game that I'm wanting to make...it'll be a challenge I know, but I'm sure its possible. There's my game series (Nightmare is somewhat involved with them, but not completely due to the game itself and it being stupid and random, lol) such as Mistery Planet, which has to be done all over again because of the virus issue I had. Not sure if I'll skip that game completely and make the "sequel" I had planned into being the actual first game of the series.

 

Yeah, as you can tell...a lot of ideas in my head right now...heck, I'm even wanting to make an Advance Wars (basing it off of Dual Strike) type game. XD Only issues I run into are resources, scripts, and finding help. Everyone I find (one or two of them from here) tends to be around for a few days about to help me, then they vanish. It's gotten to the point where I'm very close to giving up on RMXP completely. :(

I almost gave up on RPGXP when I couldn't event, but I am learning. Don't give up, Joey. You can do it! If spriting is a issue, then take up spriting classes like I am. If scripting is a problem, you could always ask for it or learn RGSS so maybe you could make yourself a self-made script full of everything you've always wanted XP to have. You can't give up, no matter how hard it gets or how bad you are stuck.

You should work on too many titles at a time, it drains you and takes courage and time away and makes you want to give up. You should stick to one. Think of a story line and then build a story board around it. Build the scenes using a type writer and then fill that in the game maker.

 

Spriting is really easy, especially if you have GraphicsGale (free). Looking at others' work will help you, believe me. Oceans' two messages to me made me 100% better! All you have to do is keep your hope and keep going on with it -- don't give up.

 

As for the poll question (which I'm pretty sure you can make here) I think you should go for the game that is completed in story line already. So that way, you aren't half way through and go "what was suppose to happen next?". If you'd like to start fresh on a story/game, jot down fresh ideas and work off of them, but don't work too hard or it could give you writer's block -- which is essential to making games of course.

 

Now, since I haven't been around to hear about all your titles, maybe a quick description of the games could help? But I think, from reading your post, you should do Shadow Realm. Or maybe Advance Wars. :)

I've honestly tried them though, I'm not good at it, and seeing how I have college to deal with...I'm not really wanting to learn them anyways. (scripting gives me headaches too, lol)

 

Well.....Nightmare doesn't have a story, honestly...its just randomness and stupidity, lol. I mainly just made it to learn RPG Maker and fool around with it. The XP version is basically the same thing, only I'm "organizing" it (if that's even possible for this game, lol) and making it better in terms of looks and humor (and dialogue I believe). As long as I got the resources and scripts and whatnot that I need, I'm basically working on this one alone. Any others I start on I would like to have a "team" of some sort since I would be taking the others seriously.

 

The scripts thing I've made a thread for in the script requests forum, someone was going to help me...but vanished. >_>

 

I thought the Mario Party game could be a good idea though, I wanted to try something with the mapping and actually hand-draw them and color them in with colored pencils (or digitally if that doesn't turn out well), thought it would look amazing. Yeah, been playing all these games and wishing that I could take over the game and add my own characters and all that. XD

Well, if your going to make an Advance War game, I have most of the unit graphics. You could also use the Tactical Battle System script for the movement. I can send em your way if your gonna make that game, I could help, too; I love the Advance War series.

If you need a script never made before, you could request them here or at RRR or maybe Rmk? They sometimes help at Rmk ^.^

Well, I'm sure the gameover music thing can be helped with the Audio scripts people have made. You can find them here (great forum, just a little hard to use). This site has scripts you can't find anymore as well.

Well, I didn't make 'em. They were ripped from the games themselves by some really awesome people. If you gonna use em, though, they ask for you to give them credit. For example;

Something else that just came to my mind about the party game and how I'm wanting to make the maps. There's a good chance that I may be taking an art class this summer. If that does happen I would love to start working on that game and see how the hand-drawn board maps would look in the game.

 

Would love to revive my art skills that have rusted out...
