Member Dashboard

Hey guys,

I had an idea for a member dashboard. Instead of going ahead and designing it myself, I wanted to allow you guys to design it yourself, since its for you.

The purpose of the dashboard is to give you an immediate rundown on whats new with your stuff. My original thoughts are to stick it here(obviously not viewable to guests):

As you can see i crossed out the details in the login module. I'll probably get rid of them and move the login module to the top-right of the website, and it will only say who you're logged in as.

So yeah, lets think outside the box here. What's the first thing you want to see when you jump on the forum? At the moment I'm thinking PMs(list of new PM subjects), replies to your topics, profile comments, blog/image/download comments.

The thing I want to see the most is recent activity in my topics, or topics that I've "starred" or something. Also PM's, however I also miss the little popup window that told you that you had new PM's while you were browsing the forums. That was pre' cool.

Yay, there's a 20 pixel pic of me :D, see it up the top? That's me :D . Well, first thing for me is to see;

-Topics that have new posts in it

-If there are any new PMs

-New comments on your actual page where people can leave can leave comments

-New upgrades

-Basically, for me, anything thats new :D . Maybe a pic of a zombie up top, too :alright: .

I'd like to see exactly what Kiriashi would like to see. My topics, topics I've posted in...and maybe recent information about the forum, like new threads? Defiantly profile comments. I never know when I get them :<

Wow it's already been a week since the last reply. I have just started work on this. But having looked at how I'm going to do it, it's proving much more difficult than I originally thought. Its really going to test my database knowledge.

I've decided due to a massive lack in space (the website must support 1028xheight, so it is very limited) that I'm going to restrict this to 3 sections. New posts in topics, PMs and component comments from Download files, images, blogs and tutorials.

The thing I want to see the most is recent activity in my topics, or topics that I've "starred" or something. Also PM's, however I also miss the little popup window that told you that you had new PM's while you were browsing the forums. That was pre' cool.

At first I thought the idea of displaying topics that the member has 'starred' in was impossible. For most of the stuff I've made here, I'm just pulling info from the Database that isn't really displayed by the software, and of course that kind of thing isn't stored anywhere. But here's my idea. I could make this thing display a topic where one of the two conditions are met(where you are not the topic author):

1. Your posts account for over 20% of the posts where the topic has more than 5 posts.

2. You have 5 or more posts in a topic that has more than 25 posts.

So these conditions are trying to decide if you 'star' in the topic that is not your own. With option 1 you have a lot of posts, so you are probably interested in new posts in that topic. Option 2 may be confusing to some. This is to catch very popular topics. For example, if you post 5 times in a topic with 30 posts, option 1 will not pick it up. However you may be interested in new posts in this topic as you have a decent amount of posts in there already. Option 2 will pick these up and chuck them in your userpanel.
