Hello RMXPUers.

 

I'm thinking about creating a shop to use with the points. Some users have asked what can we do with them? So far they have basically been used to measure the members activity and post length.

 

Since I completed the userpanel, I need another small project. That is, while im waiting to continue my really big project :)

 

This topic is for you guys to post your suggestions/designs for the shop system :)

What is the shop for? Is it for resources, game downloads, music downloads, etc?

Good question, its actually up to you guys to decide. There are classic forum shops around the web that I'll probably have to look up before i start this. Its just another thing for users to do when they're bored i suppose. Its just something to use the points, like a currency.

 

There will be no resources or anything like that, those things are for the community.

I know this is off topic but I think you should add an arcade to the forums.

 

The only things I can think of to buy with points are completed projects.

The arcade is coming soon. I am still waiting for the version compatible with this software to be completed.

how about an option after uploading if you want your resources to cost points and how much?

I think badges should be awarded to members who contribute. Not to members who do nothing.

I think the points should be used on different colored usernames, sparkly, bolded and things like that. Also, name changes or a right to buy a bigger avatar or sig limit. That's what other forums allow.

That actually sounds good until the item to change other people stuff. That's kinda mean...in a way :<

My initial thoughts are that I cannot do all of these, or not without them being intrusive to the general forum usage, but so far some good ideas. I especially like the idea of the sig limit.

And this is a great idea for the development of the forum. I would gladly spend a couple of points on some necessary things. For example, on any additions to the profile. By the way, it would be nice, and establish a system of deposits, so you can multiply the points earned ...

We were talking in chat and come up with the idea for a RPG Maker XP Shop styled shop. Although it may look a little lame being built with html and php, it won't be as interactive using just he mouse. What do you guys think?

No offense, Evil Cabbage, but I don't see the point of that. If it could be bigger without lagging a heap, I'm sure it would. But buying a bigger PM inbox? Really? I find it like those little online flash games where you can spend $5 to buy, like, 5 extra bank spots which is out-right stupid.

 

I like the idea of badges that can be bought. I'd be interested to see what kind of badges to get, maybe badges for Tatsu and other Touhou fans that could say "Touhou Addict", or maybe one for Joey that says "In the process of stalking Eureka".

I'll try get an html version up on friday which will simply display what the rmxp-style shop will look like. We'll discuss the design in this topic and change it if needed.

Just because the inbox sized is defined per usergroup and not per member, it may very difficult for me to do. To be honest I'm very bad with this forum software, I don't particularly like the framework so it's difficult for me to go and alter the code. But I'll try anything. I will however review all the ideas of this topic, so i not ruling it out.

I think a shop idea is great. But removing the features/whatever privileges we have now and make them available for sale could be boring :( . If making the shop is going to happen then it would be good to think up of new features for sale, i like the idea of badges :D , bigger avatar pic size and maybe some more space on pm inbox.

Just an update on this...

 

I'm going to postpone this component for a while, probably a long while.

 

The reason is that instead I'm attempting one of my biggest projects yet, a universal skinning project. I'm planning to move away from this almost-trademark forum skin of ours. I have a design in mind, and hopefully it will look alright. This includes an identical website skin too.

 

However this may take a while also because all my assignments and tests are coming up all at once, and I imagine I'll be doing a good few all-nighters. I'll have to set aside a few days and do it all in one go.

 

So yeah, that's what's hopefully going to be happening. Look forward to it :)
