LegacyX 4 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 Ok, i have already informed Marked that i would maintain a IRC channel for RMXPU. Now what i want to know is would you actually use this IRC? What are your thoughs or feelings. As i currently feel that the Ajax chat doesnt have that feeling like an IRC does. Then again thats my personal opinion. Please discuss this so I and the Admins can make a proper decession on this. Ok, you dont have to use it right now if you dont want too. But i have set one up if you would like to use it. RMXPU's IRC Channel many thanks ~ LegacyX
ShinyToyGuns 29 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I would use it if there was a link to it like there is for the chatroom...I'm on it right now, but that's only because you posted a link in this topic :P
LegacyX 4 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 Like i've said, the administartion team are still thinking about it i beleive. as i informed Marked. This link is just for him and the rest of the admins to see what the IRC would look Like, if it gets the go ahead i will post a topic n how to access the channel via other software like mIRC or Xchat. Polraudio 122 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I do like IRC way better than Ajax and use that chat like all the time.
isaacsol 10 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 Guys, I have also made a temporary channel so that people can also see what other IRC channels are like, if you want to have a look: Server: irc.synirc.net Channel: #rmxpu This also means that you don't have to pay for the upkeep of the channel LegacyX, as synirc is free :)
formlesstree4 18 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I could help moderate the IRC channel if needed. I used to be an IRC Operator for several IRC servers in the past (the big guys with like server wide permissions to +q themselves whenever).
LegacyX 4 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I dont need to Pay i mnaintain my own on the same server so it will be no loss to me. Also formlesstree4, if the Admin team agree we can make u a Operator on the Channel. What i was rather hopeing was to have two seperate staff, the IRC staff, and the Forum staff. But thats just an idea, that way it keeps a load of the main forum staff. :)
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted March 17, 2010 I really like what we already have for the forums.
Marked 197 Report post Posted March 17, 2010 We need to know what everything thinks of a move to IRC, so please post on whether it is preferred over our current chat system. If there is not clear winner, I think we can setup up a poll. @isaacsol: Do we need to use an IRC client to connect to that channel? (i obviously don't know much about IRC) Also, we actually used to the same site for our chat, immediately before the new chat system was installed. Sadly, it was completely dead: http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=665a5b5949b35a39bd1dac05d2a6f95d&channel=%23rmxpunlimited So I'm assuming you have paid version ? You will find that most of the administrative decisions are left to me, so you don't need to say administrative team. The main deciding factor on whether we make the switch to IRC is whether it is going to be used more than the current chat system.
LegacyX 4 Report post Posted March 17, 2010 A client is not completely nessecary, you can use a widget like mibbit to connect. But yes any ideas on the change would be greatly appreciated.
Marked 197 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 A client is not completely nessecary, you can use a widget like mibbit to connect. But yes any ideas on the change would be greatly appreciated. I was referring to the channel that isaacsol posted. This topic seems to not be going anywhere, so I have set up a poll. Please vote so we get this thing decided. FranklinX 37 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 I just voted no as my reasons are in my earlier post. What we have is just fine.
Leon 55 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 I like our chat system the way we have it now. simple, but effective.
isaacsol 10 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 Unfortunately, you do need a client. However there are many free ones like IceChat and even a FireFox plugin that allows you to use IRC in your web browser. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted March 20, 2010 I changed my vote to keep the one we have. It fits nicely into the site and it is more effective and easier to use.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted March 21, 2010 I really don't use IRCs. I don't think it would be far to me to vote lol
Marked 197 Report post Posted March 23, 2010 Ok I'm going to call it now as it has been a couple of days. The poll may affected past this point, by the decision is No, 6 votes to 5. Unfortunately it's quite close, but I guess we can't make anyone happy. Although the majority of posters did seem to want to keep the current chat system. I'll leave the topic open, in case any wants a revote or to discuss it further.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted March 23, 2010 I just tested them both to be fair, and I like the one we have currently. A lot better, or so I thought....
